Simply love everything about this place. Don’t be fooled by the exterior, it’s certainly nothing to look at wedged between a Midas muffler shop and a buffet, and the interior, while clean and cute, doesn’t strike me as high end. However, the food is delicious!...I have never had a bad meal here. My favorite is the taco, enchilada and chili rellenos combo. Even the refried beans on the side are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. My husband swears by the steak fajitas. We always order and extra container of salsa to go so we can enjoy it at home. Check it out and enjoy some authentic Mexican.More

It is a warm friendly local place. We've been in only a few times and yet the owner never fails to come over to put a hand on the shoulder to check how the food is doing and how we are doing. It is truly...a little bit of community. I recognize this from my trip to Guatemala to learn Spanish. Even there being a very recognizable foreigner, it was not uncommon to go to some restaurant have someone put a hand on the shoulder and welcome you. I found that same community at Cinco de Mayo. It's impressive. The food is very good. Perhaps they could use a bit more spice but then tastes vary. There's a huge variety here and it's all served with warmth and charm and heart. Laughter fills this little restaurant, from the staff and from the patrons. The walls and the decor just make you feel welcomed. The food warm hearty plenty all speak to the goodness of this restaurant. It's not high cuisine it's just good and hearty. Cinco de Mayo is a welcome addition and has been an asset to Willimantic cuisine. Oh, the flan. Shared with my spouse while listening to music from a street band playing Feliz Navidad was just a small bit of heaven. Don't miss this place.More

The atmosphere is warm, family like. There is always a greeting smile and warm welcome. I mirror others who have said thie is a place for quiet meal or a joyous celebration. My friends from Mexico would say that the food is 'mild', but it...can be brought up for other sensibilities. It is not just the warmth and wraparound comfort of the restauant but the service and the food. The refried bean bring me back to mornings in Guatemala. The flavors. the service do go. do enjoy. We like to think of our moments that we take out of the insanity of day to day as 'dunes'. This is a wonderful romantic dune.More

Cinco de Mayo is small/intimate with excellent traditional dishes, friendly bilingual staff and great atmosphere - dimmed lights and authentic music. Tasty salsa and freshly made tortilla chips. Generous portion sizes. A family owned restaurant for family dining. Equally great for just a night out...or a special occasion.More
