First and LAST time spending my money at the Sandbar aka Nastybar! Ordered an seafood platter, only ONE piece of fish and very little shrimp in the box. No seasoning on the food. The tartar sauce...straight "NASTY"! It's clear the grease old! Most importantly the...guy/cashier taking order(s) is extremely unwelcoming. No personality or customer service. Bad choice today...🤦🏾‍♀️More

From the outside doesn’t look much and was empty seating is very limited as well and for the warmer months they do have pick nick benches outside. Food fresh and tasty and for $23.50 including a soft drink and 14 large sea scallops coleslaw tartare...sauce a great price I think. It’s nothing fancy inside the food sells itself fresh and tasty staff polite and professional. They do have parking as wellMore

This is a tiny little hole-in-the-wall seafood place but was so good. The lobster roll was delicious and the onion rings were hand breaded before cooking. We also tried the fried dough with sauce and cheese and it was quite enjoyable. I highly recommend this...place.More

This spot is at a convenient place for a quick meal while running errands. They have a few tables inside as well some picnic tables outside. I like their seafood choices as well as hot dogs and sandwiches. Today, I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich...($6). It was ready in about 5 minutes. The sandwich was very good.More

Just a short duck-in off of I-95, not fancy, no table service, just the best fresh whole belly fried clams and lobster rolls around. If your goal is to eat your way north along I-95 at some of New England’s best clam and lobster shacks,...Sandbar in West Haven is worth a stop.More

We stopped here to get a snack for our light house cruise. Loved the place. It’s a fast food place which also has a good selection of seafood, including lobster rolls. Prices were good and service was quick.

My husband wanted to go to lunch and we couldn't decide where, so he went on the Internet and pronounced The Sandbar our choice for the day. I have lived in town for over 30 years, and remember when the place was "Anthony's Home of...the 99 Cent Sub" - and I have never gone there, nor heard anyone speak about it. Stowe's, yes. Jimmy's (ugh), yes. The now-defunct Chick's (ugh redux), ditto. But never The sandbar. Kind of makes me wonder, because the food was fresh and the portions were more than generous. My husband had a burger with fries, and I had the whole belly clam roll. The clams were not heavy nor greasy and flavorful - and you could in no way try to lift the roll until you had eaten most of the contents - that's how many there were (for $13 and change). My husband said his burger was excellent. I am not a fry person, but I tried them, and they were very good fries. I guess the nondescript location and ambience have kept this place from becoming the legend that the older West Haven seafood places are, which is unfortunate. Would like to try the lobster roll next time...and there will be a next time.More

Go about once a year in the summer. They also deliver. Recommend the full bellies. Their baskets contain a surplus of meat quantities, especially the fish (haddock or tilapia). Good American summer food, burgers and dogs. Sodas can be watery. Getting a bit expensive, but...a lot of bang for the buck.More
