This restaurant is in a cute area of West Hartford with many food and shopping opportunities. I was impressed with the raw bar options, and plan to return on our next trip to the area.

I ordered crab Louis for lunch. It was disgusting. They also charged $6.00 for a glass of water. Never go there again.

So we made a reservation as this is what Covid really requires. We intentionally reserved for 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon. We had an option to be out on the asphalt or inside and gladly chose indoors. The interior is as "old time" as always....We were seated in a lovely corner banquette with no neighbors! And then we waited. And waited. Finally, our waiter, dirty dishes on arm, claimed surprise at our arrival. We do not blaim him as at least three front of the house folks passed us on this main aisle and made no eye contact. I was ready to tag a front house person when our waiter came and apologized profusely. Order in, we got a couple of sad rolls and some cracker/flatbreads you can easily get from Stop and Shop. Really. Lobster bisque was a lunch special and we both ordered it. Pretty much a tasteless soup. Hubby proceeded to order two dozen raw oysters and was in heaven. I ordered fish and chips and was underwhelmed. 144 plus tip later (lunch, remember). Really a less than exceptional. experience overall.More

Great bar for a cocktail before dinner. It was crowded but we were lucky to have seats at the bar. Appetizer and dinner were terrific. We stayed at the table for hours and we never felt rushed. We ended up taking a nice dessert that...we shared. Overall, it was excellent (food and service). We will go back there for our first anniversary!More

My wife and I returned to the Oyster Bar last night for the first time since the pandemic took hold. As a member of a high-risk group, I have been reluctant to dine out, but I knew that if there was any restaurant where I’d...feel comfortable, it’d be the Oyster Bar. And I was not disappointed. True to form, the Oyster Bar was exceptional in every way. The food - shrimp, sea bass - was, of course, excellent! But what I specifically wanted to draw attention to was how comfortable I felt dining out — the tables were spaced out nicely, and every precaution that I could think of was being taken. My mind was instantly put at ease, allowing me to enjoy my meal. My wife and I will surely be back often to our favorite West Hartford spot.More

We’ve been trying to patronize our local restaurants during Covid, and understand the modifications to prices, portion sizes, some restaurants adding a Covid fee for the additional cleaning, etc. Just ordered the crab Louis salad, baked lobster and side of crab & pea risotto (to...supplement the crab Louis salad,). The amount of actual seafood, particularly the 2 crab items, was truly sad. Bump up the seafood portions and add a separate Covid fee. Oh, and last time we did takeout we were given rolls, as when we used to go into the restaurant there was always a starch starter. This time, no rolls... At least the corn-bacon sauce over the baked lobster was tasty.More

I came down to W Hartford to check out places as we were relocating. Stopped by Maxs oyster bar on a whim. Place was packed for a Sunday afternoon. Sat at the bar ordered a dirty martini w blue cheese olives, & my bf got...some sort of scotch he can never find. We ordered a dozen oysters. They have a menu of all different kinds, so we picked out 6 kinds we would like. Then after that round, we picked out our 3 fav and ordered 6 more. hehe We ended up splitting the fried fishermans platter. It wasnt too heavily friend and the fish just melted in your mouth it was so fresh! I will def be returning here. FYI as of right now there is only 5 patio seats, they do not take reservations and the wait is about2 hours.More

CT restaurant week made for a bargain 3 course meal. Even though it was a bargain, the restaurant was as good as always with great food and excellent service.

We had dinner before going to a show. It was CT eats week so we took advantage of the fixed price menu. We each had a different a appetizer which were al very good. We had the char and our friends had scallops and chicken...with seafood. Probably should have brought some of it home but it was so good! The creme brulee was just too much but managed to get it down. Delicious. The gin and tonic cocktail topped of a very good meal.More

Parking is free in West Hartford on Sunday. I have been able to find street parking or lot parking, but, as noted above, you have to pay at the kiosk -- $3 for two hours.

Yes as an appetizer - Maine indigenous clams. Excellent. Not sure if they have a entree.
