Great visit at Waterbury location!

Nardelli’s is the best! Their food is amazing and customer service has always been great but I have to shout out the Waterbury location! I showed up for my food at 7:55pm when they close at 8, they were pleasant and quick with making my food. I used an online service to order and the general manager, Dave, went out of his way to tell me I could save money by ordering directly at the store. He was so kind and accommodating even with me coming in at the last minute. It was instantly clear that his team had the right attitude because he does and it starts from the top! Everyone should give Nardelli’s their business, especially the Waterbury location!

There is a reason Nardelli’s has been voted the best grinder shoppe in CT for several years. It is because nobody can beat it. The food is fresh, the sandwiches are huge, and service is excellent.

Mixed review; how can a steak & cheese with peppers and onions taste like an organic solvent?

My wife and I stopped here on our way through Waterbury, looking for an Italian grinder to eat at lunch. We ordered a whole steak & cheese; and opted for the peppers, onions, and mushrooms as an up-charge. On the positive side is the fact that the portions are generous, filling the hoagie bun. There was more steak than cheese, but whatever herb/spice (sage?) was used in the preparation of the onions and peppers was repellent to our tastes. Having worked in a laboratory for a few decades where organic solvents are used, the vegetables tasted as if xylene was present. Organic chemical studies have shown that three chemicals dominate the flavor spectrum which are, in rank order, α-thujone, camphor, and 1,8-cineole. Thujone is a monoterpene (think turpentine) and may have been responsible for the flavor imparted to the peppers and onions. Hence, our rating is based on our palate and not necessarily on the palates in the kitchen.

Don't Order Extras on Your Grinder; You might not get them

We were on the road on Dec 26th, 2022 and needed to get something to eat at about 3PM. We ordered a turkey wrap on the phone and customized it the way we wanted it. We took off a number of normally included items, but added bacon as an extra charge. When we got back on the road, the items that we took off were done correctly, but there was no bacon that we paid for. And when we looked at the receipt, it was listed. Word to the wise; Don't add extras to a grinder that they charge $$ for, because they will charge you, but will not include them.

Parker says "Gone way downhill. Very disappointing"

I am a big Nardelli's fan, and have been one since I was young, when I went to the original one in the South End of Waterbury. The Wallingford Nardelli's is awesome still, but the Waterbury one falls short...way short. Chicken cutlet grinder was soggy (the chicken). Saw the guy nuke it before putting it on the bread, so it could have been a leftover from someone eles's lunch. This one is right off I-84, so they probably figure they have a captive audience of out-of-towners, so they don't have to impress anyone. There are plenty better places to get a grinder in Waterbury for sure.

Gone downhill

This used to be the "go to" place for sandwiches but not anymore. The sandwich size recently decreased significantly and prices have gone up big-time. As for the taste? Average. I will seek out alternatives at this point.

Great meal

This was my fifth different Nardelli’s location to visit (Milford, Meriden, Oxford, and Naugatuck). I found this one right off I-84. Walking inside, you place your order at the counter. This time I had the Turkey Club Nardelli Style half grinder ($6.79) and a small garden salad ($4). The half grinder was stuffed with turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and hot sauce. It was filling and delicious. I ended up taking the small salad home. Super friendly staff and clean dining area.

Nardelli's is a staple in this area. They have expanded to some other towns around here. They serve a wonderful grinder/sandwich, hor or cold. They are famous for their fast, friendly service. Try the macaroni salad--it is a great side.

I just don't get the hype

I'm sorry, but I really do not get what the hype is all about Nardelli's. I finally had the chance to try them out, after reading and seeing so much about the deli. The place is nice, clean and spacious but the grinders were not all that. The bread was good, but oversized and too soft for my liking. We got the famous Italian, there really wasn't much taste to it, and the pastrami grinder was good, but it was so rich that after a few bites I couldn't eat anymore.

On my must list every time I’m home

I’m a CT native living in CO. The one thing I haven’t been able to find in co is a good grinder. Every time I come back to CT, I have to stop to get a stuffed pastrami, rice pudding, and a birch beer from Nardellis. And I am never disappointed. The food and service are always amazing! The chicken parm and tiramisu are also high on my recommendation list. Now please open a chain put in northern Colorado!!

Awesome grinders, Fast & Friendly service

We stopped here on our way home last night as we had a 2 hour drive and were hungry, but only had about 10 minutes to grab something - this definitely beats other fast food options. It's easy to get right off 84 when you're heading west. It only took a few minutes for them to make our sandwich to order and we were out the door. It was so much better than I expected - Italian combo sub perfection. Highly recommend - can't believe we haven't every stopped here given all the times we've done this trip. Now we know. We will be back again to try the chicken parm grinder and another Italian combo.

Good Sandwich & Great Service

I always try to eat local when traveling and found this grinder shop on TripAdvisor. Hefty and tasty sandwiches as well as other great menu items. The Italian Combo was very good but next time I will add hot peppers. Fresh crusty bread with plenty of meat. Even at around $10 this full sized sandwich is a very good value compared to the. Chains and their substandard ingredients? I recommend you check it out!
