We enjoyed this local, busy, almost historic looking tavern with a strong ambiance of colonial New England. Our table was situated right under George Washington's portrait as he looks down from the stone fireplace. I think his eyes were following our every move and I felt he would have liked us to offer him a piece of the cherry pie... More

Had dinner at the George Washington Tavern in Washington CT for the first time with my daughter and son in law. Place is very attractive inside as is the outdoor patio seating. Staff was nice, food was very good and the menu had a range of prices so you didn’t need to spend a ton, but you could if you... More

Arrived about a quarter to 9pm on a Thursday, knowing the kitchen was closing soon. Our server didn't rush us at all, and was friendly and attentive. Other things to note: The whole dining area is clean and inviting--not at all musty like other old taverns! Good selection of local beers on tap. Burgers we ordered were solid and generously... My husband & I stop in here for lunch & dinner. Great pub fare. Delicious chopped salad. My husband loves the burgers. Consistent, good food. Nothing unexpected. Great family place or girls night out. Nice bar area. Friendly servers.

No frills here, just good down-home fare in a casual atmosphere in a handsomely restored 1850s building. The service was brisk and friendly, and I'm always happy when the meatloaf is as good as this. My party of five had different entrees and everyone was pleased, especially with the plentiful portions. The GW is for George Washington of course. He... More

Very slow service even though they were not crowded. The insult: asked to substitute double vegetables for a potato. They charged an extra $2.50 to do so. If they are that desperate to generate income, I worry what short-cuts they take in the kitchen. For $2.50 they lost two customers. Bad business!!

Although the portions were very large and the food was very good at lunch, I was not impressed by the GW Tavern. As I entered the main dining area, my rubber soled shoes were sticking to the floor. I had to ask for more water and it was served at room temperature with no ice. Not exactly refreshing on a... More

Varied menu from burgers to excellent entree items. I had a scallop dish with baby bok choy and rice noodles in a complex but subtle broth. There is outdoor seating.

Went at an off hour, so factor that in with my comments. Sat at the bar. Very nice, I could visualize it crowded and active. We had only a glass of wine to drink, but we ordered the fried oysters and they were perfect. Delicious, sweet and light. The setting is very nice and Washington Depot Is very cute. One... More

it's now impossible to have fried oysters in this area, except at the GW Tavern ! always a nice selection of Ale's on tap. weather permitting, excellent dinning on the upper deck or lower patio. George Washington never ate here but he did ride by during the revolution ! PS: my wife had two glasses of red wine at $13.-... More
