Since the lockdown, we have not been eating in a restaurant since mid 2020 and tried a takeout meal from Sichuan Pepper. We were celebrating my wife's and son's birthday and they want a Chinese meal. We ordered a varity dishes from their authentic Chinese...menu in a point that the staff commented, "What a large order"! The order was on time when we arrived for our pickup time. Our ten dishes were delicious and very tasty at the right heat. Definitely a repeat for takeout soon.More

Always scary when you walk into an empty restaurant! We stopped on for lunch on a Monday and we were pleasantly surprised. Hot and Sour soup, fried dumplings and a Kung Pao dish all delicious!! Dumplings were light and very tasty! Will come back

We did takeout here based on a recommendation, and will definitely come back again. This small, authentically Sichuan restaurant has some of the best Chinese food I've had in this part of the state. The entrance is unassuming - the restaurant is in a corner...of a plaza with Rein's Deli - but don't overlook this place. They have a big menu that includes a lot of dishes not normally seen in Americanized Chinese places, like Smokeless Beef Hot Pot, lotus roots, and lamb casseroles. We had the eggplant casserole, chicken fried rice, and the sweet sesame rice balls, and everything was simply outstanding. The chicken fried rice had a lot of veggies in it (some places don't add a lot), the eggplant casserole had a pleasantly mild kick but wasn't hot, and the rice balls were the perfect amount of sweet. The staff were friendly.More

I’ve eaten here three times. I’ve had one dish (chili chicken) that was terrible, but the other meals were good. The reason for two stars is they charge a premium for small dishes. I wouldn’t mind the price if the food was exceptional, but of...the meals I’ve had they are serving meals at this level.More

No need to go to New York or another big city (or another country!) for top-quality, authentic Sichuan food. Go to Vernon. It’s delicious. The Dan Dan Noodles, Dry Pepper Chicken and Cumin Lamb were all excellent, and appropriately spicy. We’ve been a few times,...and will continue to patronize this gem of a restaurant.More

This is an authentic Sichuan food restaurant, so if you are not going for that and just want your standard americanized Chinese food, please don't bother to write a review. I grew up in Sichuan province so I know what I am talking about. Had...solo lunch there and pleasantly surprised. Ordered 夫妻肺片 and 担担面 ( dandan noodle), both from the first page appetizer and cold dish menu. Both are very good. I'd be happier with a bit less salt/soy sauce but the level of salt is not unheard of. I was there at 2 so not too many customers. But overhead a couple tables praising their delicious food. This is not the polite compliments handed over to the waitress on the way out, it is sincere praising when they were talking to each other. I will probably visit again tonight or tomorrow for lunch with wife and kid and will be able to try more dishes and update the review.More

Had lunch here with my wife while out running errands. Our impressions were all around positive -- good service, good tea, good food, huge number of options. SP economizes a bit on atmosphere, but not to a detrimental degree. (It is, after all, in a...strip mall.) But would we go back? Absolutely. Put this place on your list.More

The problem with living for years in places where oriental food is the norm is that when you leave those places - Hawaii, Japan - you find yourself adrift. The tastes are off, the preparation is not what you are used to. I have eaten...at Sichuan Pepper twice before. My party did not like the level of MSG and ruled the restaurant out. I am not as troubled by MSG, though I find it unnecessary. Today, I was busy with tasks at home, no one was around to complain about the food at Sichuan Pepper, and I had a yen for Chinese food. I went to the online ordering service and ordered Chicken fried rice, dumplings with sweet sesame paste and spring rolls. Very basic fare, nothing I would order for a gala night out, just comfort food. How could it be spoiled? I arrived and paid for my meal. There was a mixup. Instead of the dumplings, which I had paid for, I was given sweet potato pancakes with 'sweet filling'. (My order confirmation contained the proper information. Apparently, the restaurant got it garbled. When I returned home, I double-checked and found my emailed confirmation with the correct items on it. The fried rice was standard fried rice, though not a lot of vegetables and not much to give it flavor. The spring rolls were ok. I tried the pancakes first because they were the least appealing and I wanted to get them out of the way. A sweet potato puree (it might have been canned pumpkin, actually) was apparently rolled out to about 1/4" thick. It was coated with crumbs, and a squashed piece of fruit that might have been a cherry - though not a maraschino cherry because it was not red. It was warmish; apparently it sat in warm oil until I arrived. It was not browned, and the bread crumbs were soggy and oily. The whole thing was barely lukewarm and swimming in grease. And it was not the item I had ordered. The spring rolls had some meat in them, but little flavor. No heat, no spice. I was provided with a container of the pale yellow stuff that is supposed to be duck sauce. It may have been wonderful; I didn't feel like eating it. I warmed the fried rice in my oven. Its container had a ¼” layer of oil on the bottom. I blotted it with a paper towel before I tried to eat it. The rice was browned (my oven helped) the chicken appeared to be strips of breast meat, perfectly fine. But aside from one chunk of carrot in the dish, I didn't see any other vegetables. There were no seasonings used aside from a good deal of MSG. I could taste it, and the characteristic 'papery' feel I get when I encounter the stuff lasted for a good long while. As I noted before, this is not Tokyo or Honolulu or San Francisco. Based on the other reviews, this restaurant has some adventuresome dishes. Unfortunately, if basic dishes like fried rice and pancakes made of sweet potato or yam puree are served up with little flavor and much oil, I don't have any urge to see what can be done with more complicated foods.More

This is not your typical Chinese restaurant. If you like an eating adventure I would highly recommend this place. They also have your typical American-style Chinese fare for the less adventurous. I had the homemade dumplings in red chili oil and the fresh frogs cooked...with pickled chili pepper. Delicious! I wish I lived nearby.More
