Wait staff was very good and food was above average. As there are very few choices in this area, next to a La Quinta Hotel, this restaurant was extremely pricey leaving travelers no choice but to pay the exorbitant prices. Avoid exiting the interstate to...eat here unless price is not an issue. Over $40 is a little much for two burgers and a single soda.More

After an overnight in Stamford, we found the Stamford Diner. Close to our hotel and the highway it was a great find. The food was very fresh and delicious with generous portions. The Western Omelet was definitely something you would find in an old time...diner. Worth a visit if you are in Stamford.More

We visited with friends and sat outside under the tent in the parking lot. The tables were so unlevel, the menus and drinks slid a bit. The food was good, but lack of gloves by some of the staff worried us. We did see them...sanitize the tables after diners left, but not the chairs. Service was OK.More

When traveling along Interstate 95 through Connecticut most drivers in need of a break will stop at one of the fast food establishments at a Service Plaza. For a far better option when passing through Stamford try THE STAMFORD DINER just minutes off I-95 this...diner's one draw back is the full parking lot as this is a popular place to eat locally. Service is fast, polite and attentive. The food is as good as basic diner food gets in out case a Swiss Cheese Omelet was generously filled with cheese. Home fries were excellent and the grilled chicken served on a bun was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. The background music was somewhat annoying but that's more my personal taste. Bathrooms were clean and the diner had no empty tables so the staff maintain a higher standard than most Service Plaza establishments.More

Stopped in here for breakfast the other morning with a couple of coworkers. The food and service were as expected for your typical diner. Prices are a bit high, and you will be charged for any modification/substitution. For example, breakfast for 3 totaled $57. That’s...a very expensive bill since we only ordered basic menu items with a couple of substitutions, I.E. substituted fresh fruit for the potatoes & toast. It’s not a bad place, I just wouldn’t make it my regular breakfast spot.More

We ate there because it was easy to get to from the adjoining motel (although they're not affiliated, I understand). It was late, and we were lazy. But the food was surprisingly good, the service was friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. It...wasn't very busy that night. We'd go back.More

My husband and I have started coming here for dinner based on recommendations from friends. It is definitely a diner atmosphere, but the dinner specials are outstanding. I always have seafood and find it is super fresh and well-prepared exactly to order (I always have...special requests). My husband usually has pasta which is as good as in any Italian restaurant around. We haven't had any problem finding a parking space or seating even on a busy Saturday night. This place is huge and they always have enough staff to manage the crowd with no waiting. We'll definitely keep coming back for more.More

This restaurant is not very good. I've eaten there about 8 times since moving to Stamford a few months ago. The food is hit & miss. The service is slow & not particularly friendly. At least 5 times that I've been there, the food has...been unsatisfying - dishes come out of the kitchen not as described on the menu, they're not consistent, sometimes they taste like they're past their sell-by date. I ordered a cobb salad, which is described on the menu as having lettuce. It came with all spinach. I ordered a pasta with "fresh" vegetables - the veggies were overcooked & too soft; I ordered their special waffle, with fruit & whipped cream - I had to remind the waiter that it came with whipped cream & he acted surprised when I requested it (it is delicious, however); my son-in-law ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese one night & it was lovely. Two nights later we went in with a friend, & he ordered it again & it was terrible - looked like it had been scraped off the bottom of a pan & had been made with cream (which he cannot have). The description on the menu says, "Slow Cooked in Tomato Sauce with Fresh Herbs and Italian Meat Sauce" - no cream mentioned. And it was slow-cooked, all right - way over-cooked. He sent it back & did not re-order anything. He was not happy. . My friend had a panini which was not heated all the way through - the cheese wasn't even melted. I had fish & chips. The menu said it was cod. I don't believe it was. It wasn't the right texture & the fish was slimy, which indicates to me that it's past its prime. I asked for malt vinegar, which was supposed to accompany the fish & chips, & they gave me regular vinegar. When I again asked for malt vinegar, I was given a look like I'd asked for the moon & was told they didn't have it. But finally they found it & brought it to the table, but it tasted watered down, In addition, every time I've gone in, the service is slow, the waiters don't smile, & it takes forever to get their attention at the end of the meal to get the bill. Really, why, when it's obvious we're through eating, does it take up to 20 minutes to get their attention to pay? We were ready to just walk out. We got up & started putting our coats on, & then the waiter noticed us. This was not a pleasant experience for us at all.More

Also if you don't have the desire to cook this thanksgiving, you can order a 12 person feast and the Stanford Diner will prepare it all for you.
