The food was very good, nice portions. Recommend Parrillada & Appetizer Samplers. The Frozen Margaritas were watery & when we complained to manager he didnt offer to teplsce or discount. Not impressed w/ that & with Happy Hr. One has to be at bar to...drink not at table where I’m spending more $$$. Oh yeah, I was surprised to get bill where charge for chips & salsa-no mention of extra charges WHO charges for chips??? We disagreed twice to Manager to take off cause we weren't paying. Shame cause food is really good!More

A busy restaurant is great, both for the restaurant and most of the times for the patrons. But busy should not mean poor service. While the food was good - not excellent -their service lacks the ambiance. Customers should not be waiting long times for...chips & salsa; or have to ask for water or more salsa. The WORST PART was them CHARGING for 2nd serving of chips-n-salsa, especially for a pricey menu. Would you believe they even charged us for some jalapenos? Duuh, I'd not visit this place again.More

I've been in Stamford for over a year and can't believe I only tried this restaurant now. The service was above and beyond, the atmosphere was fun, and the food (in particular the skirt steak) was exceptional.

We went on a Saturday night on the early side for a family birthday. The waitstaff was great, and the food was good. When it came time to sing happy birthday, the staff was fun. All in all, good food, relaxed place and decent prices....We will go back.More

There are many “Mexican” restaurants in the NY area, many of which are actually Tex Mex. Cantina Mexicana is authentic Mexican, family-owned with excellent, authentic regional Mexican dishes, like an Enchilada mole (they list chicken, but you can pick your preference, and if you know...what’s good for you get the Carne Enchilada). The mole is slightly sweet and has a little heat. You will NOT want to ruin it with any hot sauce. Save the salsa verde for the tacos el pastor, with pork marinated in pineapple then sautéed. The tacos are excellent, with soft, hot flour tortillas, garnish and lime. I almost forgot the beginning of the meal. Fresh salsa with a slight tang (yes, the way it should be) and a plate of queso fundido with chorizo and mushrooms (it works). Wash these down with their margaritas. They are generous and potent. El Presidente is popular, but we like the Chamengo and Jalarita (Jalepeno flavored, but not too much. We did not get the posole, but people rave about it. By the taste of everything else, we expect it’s very good. We have been coming here and ordering out during the pandemic. We have always been impressed with their tacos but this was the first time eating in. We loved the atmosphere and the staff was incredibly attentive. And it was a steal.More

We had to kill some time between appointments and we were hungry. Our go to is Mexican, you’re concerned when it’s the first time you try a restaurant as you know the taste and flavors you already enjoy. We gave it a shot and we...are so glad we did! The chicken flautas were absolutely delicious! One of the best I’ve ever had. The guacamole, YUM! Even the chips were some of the best we’ve had, not greasy slabs. The Pico de gallo, wish I got more. The chimichanga was delicious. We’re going back! The restaurant itself was so beautifully decorated, it made you smile.More

I was on a business trip in Stamford and had dinner here one night with a teammate. The service was spot on, and we were able to catch the tail end of happy hour for a discounted pitcher of margaritas (which were great). I ordered...a steak chimichanga, and it was fine, but the steak could have used some seasoning. I've never had a chimi served with a salad, and was expecting rice and beans, so that was a little disappointing. The chips and salsa were good, though, and that covers a multitude of sins.More

We ordered nachos and they were delicious and just enough. Then I ordered the quinoa salad (forgot the name) and my son ordered a steak burrito which came with a side salad. Both dishes were very good! I plan to return

This is the Best Mexican I have had in Stamford so far. The service was fast and precise. Their nachos is excellent. The Tacos and pico de gallo was outstanding. The table-made gaucamole was an event by it self. We will for sure be back.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, however, the night we went it was severely understaffed. There were two servers, one of which was also tending bar, and the other server had a limited grasp of English which impeded her ability to accurately deliver our order. Drinks...took a long time to come out (and had to be corrected). Although the food was very good and authentic tasting, my partner left the restaurant without paying because so much time elapsed between the time we finished eating and when we got the check. I stayed, only by grace of a longer temper, and gave her 30 seconds to deliver the check, which she finally did and I paid. It was unfortunate because the food was good and the servers were working very hard, but they simply were too understaffed to provide acceptable service.More

When traveling we try to find restaurants we don't have near home so when we saw Cantina Mexicana our daughter (who loves Mexican food) wanted to eat here. We had planned to eat outside on the patio but the tables hadn't been cleaned. We went...inside and it was super cute and authentic looking we decided to eat inside. We had a bit of a language barrier with our server and when I ordered a beer listed on the drink menu, a man who appeared to be the owner or manager, returned to ask what I had ordered and then told me they didn't have that beer. No big deal, I guess. Our daughter ordered rice and said it was the most bland Mexican rice she'd ever eaten so she doctored it up with the salsa that had been brought with chips when we sat down. The salsa and chips were good and tasted homemade. I think we were the only non-Hispanics in the restaurant and it was almost like they were surprised we were there. But over all it was good food.More

I love Mexican food. I'll eat it anytime, anywhere. This place had the food down - fresh ingredients! My chimichanga had fresh zucchini, peppers and onion with steak... no ground beef or shredded chicken like so many places but actual carbs asada. Everyone was happy...with their food. The margaritas were very good.. we tried the specialty one that comes on fire because fire! The staff was friendly and attentive, although to be fair, it was late Thursday night so not busy at the time. The decor was a little over the top but we go for the food not for the decor. I'd go again.More

I work down the street and was in the mood for some takeout Mexican food. I've eaten here several times before and the food has always been mediocre, but I figured with a microwave at the office I could at least eat hot food. I...ordered enchiladas for 15.00 and a side of guacamole, which the on-line menu lists as $1.00. When I got there, they billed me $28.00. "Old menu on line" they said. I told them I did not want to pay $10.00 for guacamole. For $28.00 I could eat a pretty fine lunch anywhere. They would not take it off the bill - I was too tired to argue -- but I told them that they were being short-sighted and that I would not be back. On top of it, food was mediocre again, so I'm not missing much in the future.More
