Beautiful outside dining area

Beautiful outside dining area under a covered porch. Food and service were excellent. Our party of 4 chose the prix fixe 4-course menu (if one diner at the table decides to have the prix fixe, then the entire party must also choose it). Portions were appropriate and certainly filling so I didn’t quite get to dessert but they offered to box it up and I will be indulging this afternoon at home with a cup of tea! I would highly recommend Nouveau Monde and will definitely be returning.

Great place to brunch.

We've been here for brunch a number of times and the food is always wonderful. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was seasoned just right for the maple syrup accompaniment. My husband had the crab eggs Benedict and ate every crumb. They stock a nice selection of wines, beers and sparkling wine. Great place for a relaxing, elegant time.

Impeccable service and a quality menu

My girlfriend and I sat out on the back porch for one of our first date nights out in months. We both went with the $45 prix fixe menu, which was an incredible deal. Four courses, each one substantial and well prepared. I had an avocado salad with smoked trout, crab cakes, the NY Strip (cooked to a perfect med rare) and she had a burrata and sweet corn salad (the hit of the night!), fried squash blossoms with ricotta filling and truffle cream, and red snapper escabeche. We both got the banoffee pie for desert, but we were so stuffed by that point - fortunately, they were kind enough to box it up for us to take home. We were both very impressed by the staff - they were polite, knowledgable and attentive. For the price, we were treated to a top quality meal and had a wonderful experience. We will be back!

what a disappointment

first, the rock hard cheap chairs we were seated were the harbinger of bad things to come...we asked for other chairs. Drinks were minute in size. Waitress was nice but inept, NOT French style. She and the bus boy reached across the table repeatedly, food served in incorrect plates/bowls. Incorrect flatware on the table for the main course. No one ever checked back as to the status of main course. Main course brought to table with appetizer plates in place in put down in the center of the table. Duck liver mouse was old, hard, and poorly made. Lobster ravioli had WAY TOO MUCH fat/butter/oil and WORSE high amounts of crushed red pepper that obscured the sweetness of the lobster. I could not have been much worse.

Dear Resort653311, Thanks for taking time to write a review. First of all, we are not a French restaurant, despite of our tongue-in-cheek restaurant name. It appears that you also know how much we paid for our furniture, and does nothing except writing negative reviews on TripAdvisor. I hope you will find a restaurant to your liking at some point to bring you joy and happiness while dining out.

Good food, awful service!

Got to the restaurant at 5:30 on a Saturday. There was only one other table at the time but it still took at least ten minutes before waitress came over to take a drink order. This was basically how the night went. We were in no hurry but the amount of time it took to bring a drink or a coffee was ridiculous. We even cancelled our dessert order as it had been 15 minutes and we still hadn’t seen the dessert. All entrees were really good although the ravioli dish was cold. I know staffing is an issue in this day and age but this waitress was just terrible.

The perfect venue for our daughter's bridal shower

After dining at Nouveau Monde only twice, I knew this is where I wanted to have my daughter's bridal shower. The venue and the vibe were absolutely perfect: cozy and intimate yet elegant and hip, with a nod to some of the most charming and delicious bistro cafes & boutique hotels in New Orlean's French Quarter, a favorite vacation spot for my husband and me. Linda, the event planner, was not only responsive, personable, and lovely to work with, but she had excellent ideas which made the planning process easy and very fun. The food is AMAZING; we chose a plated brunch with 3 delicious choices (their shrimp & grits is incredible!) and the champagne cocktail choices elevated this event. I HIGHLY recommend Nouveau Monde! If you are seeking a venue that serves delicious, inspired food, artful cocktails and a gorgeously appointed dining room, with white table clothes and beautiful decor, look no further. The waitstaff, and bartenders were also lovely and extremely polite.

Fantastic birthday dinner

I enjoyed the fabulous 4 course prix fixe dinner to celebrate my birthday with some friends. The atmosphese of the restaurant is charming, the service efficient and very friendal and the food was fantastic. The choices for each course were varied, and each sounded so good we had to choose different ones so we could try most of them. We were not disappointed - everything was delicious. It was a perfect setting for my celebration and I will not hesitate to return

A nice evening out

This is a very lovely restaurant with excellent service. The food was a bit uneven for us. The bibb salad was fabulous. The crab cake was mediocre (at best) with a sauce way too spicy to enjoy. Everyone enjoyed their entrees - salmon, pork chop. The focaccia was quite good - a little greasy. The music was too loud and it was so dark that I needed my flashlight to see the menu. The carrot cake was truly delicious. The drink "pours" were a bit short. Overall, I would go back

NYC quality in Sandy Hook

We just had what might be the best meal I have had in the area in a long time. We had an early reservation, 5:30, and we were the only patrons when we entered, which had us a bit concerned. No need to worry. The decor was modern and inviting and we were greeted warmly. After a complementary glass of bubbly for our anniversary, we had delicious appetizers of crab cakes and avocado salad with smoked trout. Entrees were delicious also, Scottish salmon and Maine scallops. Dishes were innovative and perfectly prepared. Besides the food, the drinks were outstanding. My wife got the fig cocktail and while my first choice of wine was surprisingly unavailable, my back up was outstanding. Service was fine, but given how empty the restaurant was this early it was not surprising. It seemed the owner(s) were there but did not come by to talk to us which was a lost opportunity. Overall the prices were somewhat high for the area but reasonable given the quality of the food and drinks. We will definitely be back

Disappointing Attitude

While this seems like a cute restaurant in Sandy Hook downtown that has good food, service. This particular experience was disappointing and set a cautionary tone for future if one were to ever revisit this place and in general the restaurant industry. At a prior experience at this restaurant their sommelier seemed quite knowledgeable and this time we asked for a wine recommendation at a $60-80 price point and were advised of a burgundy that would be $9 over our price point i.e. $89. Final bill had it at $98. We ignored their oversight. After the bottle was over we asked for a glass of something similar to the bottle we had and one that was served by the glass. Sommelier recommended one that he already had open. Wine was ok and we didn’t specifically ask for the price, assuming the sommelier would be conscious of the price guidance we had given earlier (proportional by glass). When the bill arrived the glass was charged at $52. We expressed disappointment to have been alerted and transparency was important. Sommelier went to the owner and came back reducing glass price to $38. When we asked to speak to the owner, we were advised that he had retired for the evening when he still seemed to be sitting at the bar. Such experiences take away trust from restaurants and one has to question if it’s worth anymore.

drips with pretentiousness

had a reservation for 5:15 because was told no availability earlier. Credit card information was taken when making the reservation and I was informed I would be charged if I didn't come in by then! As if this was a luxury hotel! The place had absolutely no other patrons! We were told we could not sit outside because they were so busy. Again, no patrons for at least another hour. When it became clear we were to leave, suddenly "a large party cancelled" and we were allowed to move outside. The food was average and over-priced. Only a handful of patrons came in before 7 pm. Then we were told we would need to leave by 7:30. When I was about to send the dessert back because I would not be able to eat it by then, suddenly we could stay till 8. There had been no mention that the reservation would only be for a set period of time! This whole experience left a very bad taste!

Menu getting stale and service not the same as when it just opened and the place had a pulse!

So this was our third time there. The first time was great as it was something new for us in Newtown. Food and service were excellent. The second time the same thing but the menu was the same. This last time we were surprised that the menu still hadn't changed and there wasn't any specials. Service was off for some reason and it wasn't because they were busy or didn't have enough help. Actually they made a big deal about getting a last minute reservation, but when we ate the place was about half full and stayed that way until we left???? When you spend this kind of money you expect top notch service. Pork Chop was just OK. La Zingra in Bethel still has the best pork chop in CT. Anyway we both walked out saying "not sure we will be back."

Amazing Experience

As usual the food and service were outstanding. From first walking in you are treated like you are the only people in the restaurant. The ambience a Is great. It is a cozy, romantic setting with good parking. The food is delicious. We have been here several times and never had a vad meal. My wife said her salmon was the best she has ever had. My steak was done to perfection. You cannot go wrong going here for any occasion but especially for a special one.

Had a lovely Sunday evening at Nouveau Monde. Every aspect of our experience was excellent: food and wine, service, ambiance, etc. It's the first time in a long time that a restaurant has checked every box for us. Will definitely be returning!

An Event To Remember

We just had our 50th wedding anniversary at Nouveau Monde. What a great experience. Everything happened justcas we planned and no one, including the young ones, had a negative comment. The entire crew, from Bill the owner/chef to Linda the event planner, the entire staff wait staff and the bartender, were all great. The food was delicious, as always, and the service is top tier. We had our party in their carriage house building. It was the perfect size for our group of 25. If you are planning a special event this is a must check venue.
