Buon Appetito is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant that serves an eclectic mix of northern Italian dishes in a warm and relaxed environment. We strive for the highest standards in our service, our food and our overall presentation because we believe that dining out is not just about food, it’s about a true dining experience. Buon Appetito’s menu offers a variety of choices from, appetizers, soups, salads, specialty pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, ocean fresh seafood, entrees and mouth watering desserts. I’ve been meaning to write this review for three weeks now, after our last wonderful experience at Buon Appetito. I am a local and pre-COVID, my family were regular diners and were always happy with the food and service. During the lockdown we ordered takeout a few times which was a great treat but it was our last experience that finally made me want to sit down and write this review.
We had friends visiting from a COVID friendly state and they were used to high end dining. A group of us, masks and all, took them here and to say they were impressed is an understatement! From the service, to the quality cocktails and wines, to our meals...everything was simply superb. I know that some people have concerns about dining indoors at restaurants during this uncertain time but it might help to know that we felt very safe. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Our night ended with a round of lemoncello shots, compliments of the owners, which is something that is done for all guests. If you want a delicious pizza and salad, this is your place. But if you want a high end experience with authentic Italian food at a reasonable price, this is your place as well!! Salute!!

I recently stayed in the area for three nights at a nearby B&B Abby's. I had visited the Casino's but saw the long food lines, and didn't feel comfortable eating there, or even really having food prepared there due to crowds. I decided to order dinner from Buon Appetito, twice, for take out, and neither meal disappointed! I did cringe a bit seeing so many people dining there.
The first night I got the hanger steak, which came with onion soup risotto, and asparagus, and was perfect! Steak was perfectly cooked medium, was delicious, as was the risotto, and loved that idea for onion soup flavored risotto! I also got the grilled bread as an app which was good but nothing special and not overly cheesy.
The second night, I got the short rib, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Again, cooked perfectly, fork tender, and tasted great. The young blonde chef, who brought out my food, also offered bread, which was appreciated! I didn't like however that when I was picking up my food, the female server/hostess had removed her mask, and suggested I remove my own silverware from a large container, for my takeout, so she wouldn't touch it, due to no mask. I am clean but worry about what other grubby hands may have been in there! I ultimately did not use the plastic silverware to be cautious.
If I go back I definitely want that steak again it was an amazing dish! If I ever stay in the area again, I will come back, as the food was excellent and a good value! Not overpriced! I have driven by so many times and I am glad I tried it!

We love the people and the food here! This is just such a welcoming and magnificent place, with a beautiful atmosphere, friendly owners and staff, and incredible food and drinks. We felt so welcome and well-cared for at Buon Appetito. The service was professional, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere felt inviting and safe for dining out in this age of Covid-19. The NY strip was perfectly cooked and came with deliciously made mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus, and our ricotta ravioli was creamy and satisfying with a light tomato sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed the tiramisu, glasses of Prosecco, and a house cocktail. We highly recommend Buon Appetito for its lovely staff and exceptional food and drink!

The food was delicious, but a little salty. Excellent seafood in the entrees and pei mussel appetizer. We had the tiramisu and the cheesecake for dessert. The tiramisu was surprisingly bland given how flavorful the other dishes were. The cheesecake was quite dry. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. We went around 5:30pm. Service was very quick until the crowd picked up. Once it got busier, it was much more difficult to get refills on water and the service was slower all around. Cocktails and wine selections were delightful.

This was my first time here, and it was absolutely phenomenal, beginning to end. The calamari was fried lightly and delicious. Pasta alla vodka with scallops was legit amazing. The ribeye steak with gorgonzola cheese was worth the price and cooked perfectly. This place reminds me of classic New Haven style Italian food!.I'll be back very soon.

This is a lovely restaurant with beautiful flowers and a nice fountain outside where you walk in. The outdoor area to eat looked nice as well but we sat inside. The food here was great! We were not given a kids menu for our son but they could make a kid pasta or grilled cheese. However, looking at their restaurant there were a few more dishes they would have made him. Their bread was very good and we got the grilled focaccia bread one which was delicious (but a little messy lol)! I also got the chicken parmesean with home made pasta which was very good and enjoyed the flavor of the sauce with homemade papperdelle pasta which was good! My husband got the shrimp scampi with homemade pasta which was very good and garlicky. We also got a pepperoni pizza which was good and thin. The sauce and cheese on the pizza was very good! The red Sangrias were good! Their desserts are made in house. I took a tiramasu home which was good and not overly drenched or soggy. The night ended with a complimentary housemade lemoncello which was really good and not over powering. Service was okay and we felt the food came out quite slow for a Sunday evening and it was not busy. However, the food was great and we will certainly be back!

My family of four (two adults, two small children) was looking for a nice place for pasta during our trip to Mystic. Though this restaurant is not in downtown Mystic, the 15 minute or so drive (from Mystic Aquarium) was well worth it! The service was spectacular, but the real gem was the quality and portion-size of the food. My wife had the pappardelle bolognese and I had the linguine with white clams. Our kids split a plate of spaghetti with meatballs (yes, they can split the dish for a $3 upcharge). These were some of the best tasting pasta dishes we've had in a long time (and we have some really authentic Italian restaurants near our home). We've added this restaurant to our list of favorites and we will be sure to stop by again the next time we're in Mystic!

Never disappoints!! The grass fed ribeye was fabulous as always!!! The chicken piccata was delicious. We shared the ricotta cheese cake was perfect as was the lemoncello and cappuccino. Thank you for a wonderful birthday!

Service was good but it was perfunctory and arrogant. The place was clean. The prices are high--the specials menu didn't have prices on it and the prices on the specials menu were higher than the regular menu.
$18.00 for an appetizer
$40.00 for prime rib
My chicken picatta was bland. The creme bruelee was good.
For the money we spent, I expected flavorful food and genuine service.

Thank you for your recent review. We were saddened to hear that you were disappointed with your dining experience with us. No, we are not the cheapest restaurant in the area but we serve authentic dishes using only the best, natural ingredients. We do not cut corners and that is reflected in our prices. It is unusual for the picatta to be bland but accidents happen so I apologize if that was less than exceptional. Perhaps try something different on your next visit? Most of the restaurants were closed on Tuesday at Foxwoods, so we decided to give this restaurant a try to celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary.
So glad we did. They have a very nice patio for outdoor seating. We were first served a great hot crusty bread with terrific olive oil for dipping.
For entries we had the Orecchiette with sausage (skipped the white beans and broccoli rabe), and the Salmon served over risotto. Both outstanding.
For dessert we shared the Ricotta Cheesecake. Very good. They serve complimentary limoncello after dinner. A nice touch.
The service was top notch...specials explained, and the food was served piping hot.
Overall a great dinning experience, comparable to much higher priced Italian restaurants we have visited.

Mirela and her incredible staff provided my guests and I an unforgettable evening on my birthday. For any kind of event or even just a romantic dinner, I 100% recommend reserving the private wine cellar dining room. It's intimate and gorgeous. Mirela, made everyone feel at home with her lovely presence and amazing stories. She and her husband have built an exquisite dream with this establishment. The food is nothing short of spectacular. You'll admire the care in the preparation of every dish, and you'll be enlightened by their refreshing and crisp house limoncello. I can not thank Mirela, and EVERYONE at Buon Appetito, enough for the masterpiece of a night they entertained.
Dine there once, and you'll be enchanted by the Buon Appet-tritos you'll receive.

After a brief stop at Foxwoods, my wife and I decided it was too crowded to eat there, so we ventured out around 6;30, without an idea of where to go. We headed toward Stonington, wondering if we could get into Mystic Pizza II, but then Buon Appetito came to mind. Granted, I hadn't been to that location since the Dew Drop Inn probably more than 35 years ago, but I had seen this place busy several times, so I hoped it was for good reason. We got the last parking space, which is a good sign, but worried there would be a long wait. We were immediately seated at the bar, not our usual choice, but since we didn't have reservations, and were hungry, we readily agreed. This place is hopping. Wow! And the staff maneuvers their way around like a finely tuned orchestra. A waitress who also helps in the bar area quickly took our drink order and provided menus. Soon, there was a line waiting to be seated, so we knew we lucked out. My wife and I decided to try calzones, hers' with veggies, mine with meatballs. I later found out they use a full 14" pizza sheet for each calzone, and they are huge, enough for my lunch the next day, and two more servings for my wife. Mine had meatballs, sliced just right, with a modest amount of ricotta, and a generous portion of mozzarella. The dipping sauce was great, making for a perfect meal. While we were waiting, we had a close view of the kitchen, which was incredibly busy, but under control. We can't wait to return to try the salmon, which looked delicious, as well as some of the more traditional Italian dishes. We'll bring family next time, and be sure to make reservations. This is probably the most impressed I've been with a restaurant in several years.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in the area where we were married and had dinner at Buon Appetito on Saturday night. Emily served our table and I was blown away by her friendliness, efficiency, humor, connection, and joy in her work. She'd already filled Justin's water glass five times before dinner was served; she cracked jokes with our two granddaughters at their own levels, attentively watched to make sure we had what we needed. The final glowing act was when she brought ice cream to our 3 year old granddaughter. She had put on a smiley face, whipped cream and a cherry on the vanilla ice cream. Elise took one look at it and pulled a face! So without batting an eyelid, Emily whisked it away and told Elise to pretend it never happened. Less than a minute later, a single scoop of plain vanilla ice cream appeared. ... I'd go back to the restaurant just to enjoy Emily!

So we decided to give this restaurant a try, well we actually ate there 2 nights in a row and we hardly ever do that. Our waitress Sandra she was top notch we requested her the second night also, she is very highly recommended. We had the PEI mussels exquisite, pizza really good. The second night was wine braised short ribs melt in your mouth. We even got a bottle of limoncello to go. The atmosphere there is very friendly and upbeat we will definitely be back.

When I asked my almost high school graduate where she'd like to have dinner to celebrate she happily responded, "Where else?.... Buon Appetito". And so for the umpteenth time in a few years we were back in the home of Mirela and her fabulous staff. The weight of stress that comes with planning and organizing a dinner party is immediately lifted when you dine here. Our party of 13 was quickly seated and a drink order taken. She had delicious homemade pizza and a platter of antipasto delivered for the table within a few minutes. Our group happily chatted and caught up with each other as the restaurant buzzed to full capacity. The garden room where we were had another very large party and a few smaller ones were in the main dining room, I am always impressed with the service here. Your water glass never empties, your drinks are always refreshed and staff is always near if something is needed. There is a sense of urgency with her staff but no one is running or grim faced; just a very well oiled group of individuals who aspire to maintain Mirela's level of service expectations. I have never had an off temperature meal nor one that wasn't delicious in every way. Our group chose our favorites last night. Salmon, swordfish, ravioli and lots of chicken parm for the boy teens. Large, hot, plentiful and DELICIOUS were the platters of food that arrived. The amount of customers and food they served last night all with great service and genuine smiles is testament to the family environment you feel as soon as you enter the doors. We ended the meal with mostly to go desserts as we were completely satiated from dinner, but we did have some coffee and espresso. Mirela is a kind and lovely person whose only desire is to see that you are taken care. And that, is what they do best, If you haven't had a chance to dine here, GO and if its been awhile, head back. The patio is open and dining outside is a lovely experience here. Until next, Cheers!
