The C.F.C. Deli is on the ground floor of the Connecticut Financial Center (with 26 floors, it's the tallest building in New Haven and sixth tallest in the state) and offers breakfast and lunch, Monday-Friday, 6:30-3:00. While their customer base are workers in the office...building, they also get a fair amount of traffic from the local area. The Deli is set up for mostly take out, but there is a small bar with three stools available.
Breakfast choices include egg and meat sandwiches, French toast and pancakes, bacon, ham, etc. sides, eggs any style and omelettes. There's always a nice selection of muffins, rolls and bagels. Cold and hot sandwiches, wraps and subs are available for lunch. They have a decent salad bar and usually have two homemade soups and a daily lunch special ranging from lasagna, chicken tenders with mac & cheese, lobster rolls, chicken chili over rice, spinach pie (my favorite), and pastrami nightmare sandwich. Lunch specials tend to sell out quickly, so get there early in the lunch rush. Beverages include bottled water, soda, fruit juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk. You can call ahead so your food's ready to go when you arrive.
The food is consistently good.and everything is homemade. The main counter person is quick and keeps the food prep area very clean. They also offer on and off-site catering.
This is a good option to pick up breakfast on the way into the office or a lunch to enjoy on the New Haven Green, just across the street. While the C.F.C. building doesn't have a public restroom, the New Haven City Hall (connected to C.F.C.) does and is open during regular business hours. The C.F.C. has a security desk in the foyer, but you don't need to show id to sign in if you're only going to the Deli.More
