The ambiance of this place is fantastic! Each room of the restaurant has a completely different vibe. This is the cozy, well established restaurant vibe you get from European restaurants, which is what makes this place a great place. The owners are kind, funny and...so welcoming. They are taking precautions on CoVID: I saw the waiter carefully spray sanitize the table after a family finished. The food is great, music great and the beers are awesome!More

I am a German and I feel insulted by this place. I am not trying to convey my frustration not being able to get decent german food in ct but this place is just terrible. All they focus on is their decor and ambiance for...the stupid American that knows Germany as lederhosen big beers and oompa music. What does the average American know about german food? Nothing. So I can serve chicken parm microwaved food and sausage that I have never had in my 27 years I grew up in Germany. Food is terrible the beer they serve way overpriced and sorry if I order 1 liter beer I want to drink it and not wait until they are done with their ticky tocky nonsense. I have given them 3 chances in the last 10 years and every time I was mad as I feel like I wasted my money.More

I've been here a few times and left satisfied. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the definition of kitsch German awesomeness. You can't go wrong with the Jager schnitzel - super tasty. A few downsides - the prices are pretty steep. Some of...the tables in my experience can be too small to handle the amount of plates/diners. The neighborhood is rough.More

We had a wonderful night drinking beer, eating good food and feeding off the energy of the crowd. Will be back soon!

The first few times we went to this restaurant we had a lot of fun! I must admit the food was not top notch for German food but the atmosphere is fun! This last visit was not a good experience. The lighting in the area...we sat in where the booths are on the other side of the bar had the most bright obnoxious lighting, when we asked if they could turn them down we were told no. Then we noticed that other patrons were hanging their napkins over the lighting so we resorted to the same measures. We had a friendly great waiter, but when we arrived at the table it was not cleared, they quickly cleared it for us. Once we ordered out drinks the waiter came back to tell our friends they were out of the Cabernet they had ordered, he mentioned they had sold 5 bottles of it tonight, 5 bottles? Not a lot so they ordered a second choice, we were told that beer was the drink of choice here. Then he came back to say it would be a wait because there were busy pouring beers? Unbelievably they only have one bar and a huge banquet room to boot with one bar. Next issue was food, it was just mediocre at best, they claim it is 4 courses but your paying for them! Most entrees were over $30! The soups were bland and not good the salad is about a 1/2 cup portion with a dressing (no choices) that was a bad version of a french dressing? Prime rib was let’s face it prime rib! It was good my husband ordered a cutlet but it did not say what type of meat it was, it had a salty mushroom sauce, our friend had a fish dish that came with two tiny filets, the spaetzel, which we normally love came out cold and was like a large tubular spaghetti rather than the smaller piece version. The side vegetable was corn, not sure if canned or frozen, and some mixture of turnip and parsnip but was slightly orange and had a funky medicinal taste to it none of us could identify? Deserts was good, apple strudel you can’t go wrong! All in all not much good to say, sorry Eastside, we wanted to like you.More

Went with friends who had suggested. Really good “peasant “ food, wursts, herring, schnitzel. Good beer and although limited wine, more than adequate and went well with dinner.

We live 45 minutes away, and with the onset of the autumn weather we crave German food. We saw a billboard advertising East Side German restaurant in Derby and decided to take the drive. It was well worth the drive! The warm inviting atmosphere couoled...with the traditional bier hall decor made us feel welcome, and was the experience that we were seeking. The food is delicious and served in generous portions. The wait staff were courteous and quick with the service. This was an overall positive experience that I hope to have again. What makes a good restaurant great is that in addition to serving delicious food, the atmosphere is enjoyable. This fits East Side to a T. The food is very good and plentiful. But the experience is what makes this place all the more special. Yes...it’s on the expensive side, yes you are generally paying for a 5 course meal even if you don’t want one, and yes this is not 5 star cuisine. Despite all of these caveats, East Side is still a favorite. The food is great. The restaurant has an authentic old world German feel. The staff are amazing. And on weekend nights there’s an accordion player who takes requests. East Side is always a delicious and fun experience.More

Had their full multi-course dinner (more food than I originally planned) but it was excellent. Had the Rouladen with mashed potatoes, barley soup, and banana cream pie. Service was outstanding, as was the decor and the music. Would recommend it.
