Before deciding to visit Mystic, we saw this restaurant was rated top restaurant of CT and knew we needed to check it out. We loved the ambience and the service and absolutely enjoyed our meal. We shared a few appetizers and small plates along with...an entree. Location was also super convenient as we were staying at the Whaler’s Inn.More

We have been meaning to go to the Shipwright's Daughter for some time, so we decided to try it out for Valentine's Day dinner. We had an excellent meal with first-class service. Not a large selection of main courses. My wife had the Octopus Ink...Pasta, and I had the chicken. Very adequate portion, extremely tender with a very tasty sauce. Made for a very enjoyable evening.More

Because the food was terrific. The plates are very amenable to a large party sharing many bites, tastes and flavors - which was exactly the atmosphere we hoped for as two families that enjoy food and drink. Unfortunately, our waiter had a chip on his...shoulder that made every interaction unpleasant. Not once did he offer another drink round. We continually had to flag him down. When an incorrect drink was delivered, it took another 20 minutes to catch sight of him to ask him to correct it and then he was not even slightly apologetic. Same when an incorrect entree was served.! Then he disappeared. It seemed someone else took over our table to order dessert some time later. We did that and 20 minutes went by. We had 4 young children at the table. After dessert drinks were delivered and consumed and dessert still wasn’t served - I asked the new waitress if she could please check on the status. She very nonchalantly said sure. One plate came out. Another 15 minutes went by and we had to ask for the remaining cake to be packaged to go and please bring the check. MIND YOU - they knew this was a birthday celebration as they proactively asked when I made the reservation. So. Nothing was done for the birthday. We had to take the cake slice to go at TEN PM on a 6:30 reservation. We sat early so that the children would NOT have a meltdown. After chip on his shoulder disappeared we had a server who apparently felt that 35 minutes for a dessert order is appropriate wait time after i specifically said the kids need us to wrap this up, please. That sort of apathetic, condescending, not fun service ruins an experience. We were delighted with the actual food and happy to spend a very large check - would just appreciate actual service to go along with that atmosphere. Too bad.More

Most pathetic restaurant you scould ever go to. Unless you want some overpriced slab of flavorless meat don’t bother. Forget paying for a dining experience. Once they realize you have actually been to a legitimate establishment they call the cops claiming you disrespect their staff....Pathetic restaurant only fit for small bites. If you want real food go elsewhere.More

This is what tall fine restaurants should aspire to: everything was locally produced, fresh, and creatively prepared. I'd ordinarily never order fish that wasn't de-boned, but the fluke was so perfectly cooked and presented that eating it with a bit more care only extended the...pleasure. Shaved Brussels sprouts, root vegetables, yams, and beets in a remarkable coconut yogurt sauce were all memorable. Though live music showcased real talent, softer music would allow for easier conversation.More

Pros: Hostess was nice. Nice ambiance. Cons: Service Our waiter seemed to have a chip on his shoulder and was VERY unaccommodating in a rude way. I ordered the duck. He said Medium/Rare. I thought he was asking. I said Medium/Well because I'm pregnant. And...I was VERY pregnant. All he did was repeat himself... Medium/rare. No accommodation. No asking the kitchen. I then ordered the fluke instead. He said it had a full bone and recommended the black fish. I asked about the mushroom dish and he seemed annoyed that I asked. I ordered the black fish on his recommendation and was very disappointed. Overall: Duck (my husband ordered) was good, but not amazing, deviled eggs were good, pumpkin/Sage butter was delicious, clam dip wasn't very good, kids cheeseburger was not good, desserts were small. We will cross this place off the list and not go backMore

Went for breakfast on our first morning in Mystic. Promptly seated and served coffee. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and wife ordered the continental plate which included an “egg du jour”. She requested a scrambled egg. Our server informed us that the plate only came...with a hard boiled egg and would not deviate or substitute as she requested. Not wanting a hard boiled egg she ordered a breakfast sandwich as I did. These breakfast egg sandwiches were served with a green salad! Who eats a green salad for breakfast? The sandwiches were very good but we did not return to this restaurant. Suggestion: Serve fruit with the breakfast egg sandwich.More

I have been to Shipwright's Daughter a few times at this point, so I thought it was time to give a well-deserved review. My boyfriend and I both rave about this place. I am a cocktail lover and they have excellent, seasonal cocktails. I'm a...little picky and I can always find something I like. The food is absolutely wonderful. I appreciate that it's seasonal and limited to doing a few things really well. I've only had the pleasure of dinner and happy hour here, but I look forward to trying brunch and breakfast eventually. The only thing I can say is it's always a $200-$300 meal when we go here as a couple with a few drinks and an appetizer. Worth it though.More

Went for breakfast, and the decor was very nice, but the staff was pretentious and somewhat arrogant, especially when one of our parties asked for a ham and cheese omelet (not on the menu). Four in the part, all meals were fair at best, incredibly...overpriced, and had to ask twice for a coffee refill (its breakfast!) If you like uppity over priced environments, just the place for you. If you want a good meal with good service go someplace else.More
