We don't visit Middletown a lot, but thought we'd do so today. Turned out to be a good idea, but what made the day *great* was just happening to choose Hachi for our lunch.
Oh my, where to begin? It's a lovely place, intimate and welcomig. The menu for food and drink has so many excellent choices that it's hard to decide, but we finally opted for a chirashi bowl and a Hawai'ian poke bowl. Both delicious choices, beautifully presented, fish that was super-fresh and tasty, and portions so generous that I came close to not finishing mine. (And that would have been a shame, because leaving behind something that good? Unthinkable.)
As usual for me, my main concern with a new place is seeing how they deal with my husband's allergy. I need not have worried: They checked and double-checked to be certain his allergen was nowhere present in his order.
Service was fantastic: Friendly, attentive, helpful and caring.
In addition, the cleanliness and protocols in place for dealing with the pandemic were top-notch. No worries!
In sum, it matters not that Hachi isn't all that close to where we live; we'll be coming back as often as possible!

I was in Middletown for a training workshop today and wanted sushi for lunch, right around the corner from the training facility was Hachi. One of the people who was in the workshop with me asked if she could join. For 4 rolls of sushi and two miso soups it cost us, with tip $22.00.
The staff were amazing, and very attentive, and it was nice to see how fresh the fish was, and watch the sushi masters create our meal. If parking wasn’t so expensive in Middletown, I’d come back for dinner someday!

I ordered the miso soup and the special lobster tempura roll. This was some of the best sushi I've had in my life. I've had sushi in California and Hawaii. Awesome place.

This place is more geared to take out. Service for dining is extremely slow. The people running the place are extremely unkind. Here is what they did to me. I left my wallet at home, 10 minutes away. Rather than allow me to pay from home via phone, they made me leave my elderly mother, 5-year-old daughter, and an infant while I retrieved my wallet.
I grew up in restaurants in the South End of Hartford. There is no food that is so good that it is worth eating at a place run by such ignorant, unkind, buffoons. I will stick with Mikado and I truly hope this place closes.
I left a hefty .01 tip to let them know it.
I just found this out, while I was out retrieving the wallet, the restaurant served the kids ice cream, changed the bill out, and didn't tell me. The police should shut this place down. They are crooks.

I believe in giving second chances, but I should have given up on this place the first time. The shrimp taste and smell funny, the veggies are soggy. I had to stop eating it because now my stomach is bubbling and about to vomit! Everyone in my office said this place is going down hill. STICK WITH MIKADO!!!!

Terrible service and owners/management does not seem to care.
We ordered sushi for my Mother’s Day treat. Placed the order online to assure it was correct. Order stated that in 45 minutes the order would be ready at 6:40pm. My husband and three year old arrived at 6:50pm to pick it up. They waited 15 minutes before anyone ever acknowledged them. Then found out the order hasn’t even been started yet (that should have been their sign to just give up and leave). My husband had to remind them three times to make sure the mango sauce was on the side (even though it was stated in the online over). No apologies or courteous gestures from the management to make my husband and daughter’s wait any better. The order was finally ready 45 minutes after they arrived (55 minutes after it was stated online that the pick up would be ready).
Once we got home we found that the seven piece sushi dinner had wasabi under all the fish. I’ve never ordered sushi before and had to tell them to hold the wasabi - it’s always been on the side. So the seven piece sushi dinner that was for my two children couldn’t even be eaten by them because it was way too spicy. Happy Mother’s Day to me that I was finding them other food to eat because of this error by Hachi 8.
We only ordered from Hachi 8 to save a few dollars over the cost of Mikado. But after dealing with Hachi 8 we realize it’s worth every penny to order from the best at Mikado and not deal with subpar service/sushi at Hachi 8. Once my order at Mikado was not ready when I came for pickup and the owner sat me at the bar and brought me a mai tai - all because I had to wait 5 extra minutes for our food. The service there is extraordinary. We didn’t even get an extra roll or dessert from Hachi 8 to make up for this, much less an apology. Skip this place and go down the street to Mikado!

When I was in Hawaii I fell in love with Poke. Coming back to the US I didn't think I would find Poke like the the "real deal" in Hawaii. Well.......I did. Hachi makes a great Poke with all the ingredients that make the bowl just perfect. Fresh fishes, seaweed, seasoning, and a sauce that was rich and tasty. We also had some sushi that was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend this Japanese restaurant in Middletown.

Although it is one of three sushi restaurants in Middletown, Hachi has won my vote because it provides high quality sushi at less-expensive prices. In the restaurant, Hachi always beautifully displays its rolls.
The specialty rolls are delicious.

Salmon and steak hibachi not good — steak was over cooked. Tempura appetizer was not light; the batter was more like greasy carnival food. The snow mountain roll was good. The one shining item was the dinosaur egg appetizer — a must if you come here. We probably won’t come back because there’s so many other great places in town.

A friend and I had lunch this week at this terrific eatery. We shared plates - rolls, sashimi, sushi - and they couldn't be fresher or more attractively served. The restaurant is small and well-appointed; all employees and servers are Japanese and professional. Will definitely be going back - this is a find

Maggie is an excellent host and owner. She greets everyone with a smile and serves amazing food. She selects fresh fish every other day and always knows what's best. Dishes to try include: Hachi Kaze, Manhattan Monkey, any of the ceviches.

I've eaten at many outstanding sushi restaurants across New England and the USA. Fortunately there are many good ones out there. I'd top Hachi as #1 on my list, and that's saying a lot as I've had a couple favorites for years. I'm thankful I found this place a few months ago. The service is always good too. Kind people. And the atmosphere adds an upscale yet fun atmosphere.

Service was amazing, greeted with a smile and personal service. If your looking for top grade specialty sashimi, this is the place. Toro bluefin, toro yellow tail, toro salmon, live giant scallop!

The hostess was very friendly upon our arrival. We ordered our lunch ; the soup arrived cold and we had difficulty getting the attention of the waitress to get this rectified. The main course arrived-- but ours came before our friends meal and it was already cool. Too bad because the food was good!
We had a coupon for which we had paid for a discounted meal but we learned that it was only for dinner- unfortunately this detail was hidden near the end of the fine print and the hostess was very "huffy!"
Between a cold meal and the issue over the coupon we won't return there- plenty of Japanese restaurants in the Middlesex area!

I had my favorite Phad Thai and wasn't disappointed. The service was lovely. It was an enjoyable evening at a special restaurant. Dessert was fantastic too!
