We happened upon this restaurant, drawn in by the linen tablecloths and old-world decor. The menu outside looked interesting. Unfortunately our meal was disappointing. We began with appetizers--escargot and an eggplant special that was similar to a ratatouille--chunks of eggplant, cherry tomatoes, capers, olive oil and basil topped with cold grated cheese. We've been here for lunch many times. Their pork dish special is excellent. Even if you don't go on a Tuesday, the chef will make the pork meal for you.

Allegre Cafe can be counted on to deliver consistently good Italian food. We're still partial to a few favorites: a starter of panne cotto made with escarole and cannellini beans, bread, salad, and eggplant rollatini and eggplant parmigiana. Delicious, comforting, satisfying The bar up front seems a little less stuffy than the more formal restaurant in the back.

The cafe is very nice, relaxed but not really cheap. It is the perfect place to go if you have a business associate to take for lunch

We started with a lentil soup and caprese salad. Followed was that nights special of scallops. The meal was very good. The bread, not so good.... More

Good pasta dishes. Reasonably priced. High noise level when full. Limited wine selection; good service.
