While visiting a close friend in Hartford, I told him I wanted to go to an old school establishment for lunch and this was a great choice. I had the chicken cutlet grinder which turned out to be much better than I anticipated, the size of the sandwich was huge. The place is by no means fancy or up to... More

Franklin Giant Sandwich Shop is a Franklin Avenue legend. There's enough schmootz on a half grinder to fill you up for an entire afternoon. When you come out of your carb coma, you'll still be burping up lunch.

I have been going here all my life, and needless to say I am very dissapointed. Not only is the food not what it used to be. But when you walk into the place the people helping you are rude and act like they are pissed off to be there themselves , you can feel the bad vibes when you... More

I lived in CT for years and I would travel to Hartford once a week to pick up one of these sandwiches. I now live in CA and can't find anything close to Franklin Giant. I will be going back to CT this Aug for vacation and this will be my first stop from the airport and my stop before... More

While visiting family and friends in Hartford we returned to Franklin Giant Grinders on a Sunday and ordered a couple of pizza's. When compared to other pizza places in various parts of the country - NYC, Washington D. C, Northern VA, Franklin Giant Grinders serves the best tasting and great value for the dollar. Beware of the hours posted on... More

During the 1960's and 1970's I grew up and lived in the South End of Hartford. When grinders (and pizza which came later) were on the food/meal agenda, Franklin Giant was the place to go. My opinion is this family owned/operated establishment is a South End institution. Since I have family in Hartford, I'm in town several times a year.... More

This place is OLD SCHOOL! Order at the counter. Ask for extra sauce. One of the best grinders I have had in a long time.

I work in Hartford 2-3 times a week so I had to try the famous FGSS. The grinder shop must be living off its past reputation since my experience was awful. The grinders are very expensive and the work area / staff disgusting. The man on the slicer was throwing cold cuts back into the filthy trays, and the counter... More
