My friend and I, both from just outside of Hartford, were attending a show at the SHU Community Theatre just down the road from Flipside. As I have a rule of going to restaurants I can’t enjoy at home (i. e., no chains), I did...my research and found this wonderful place. My friend got the fire burger, which she said was quite good and had just the right amount of heat. She had it on the regular bun, which was soft on top but with a perfect amount of crunch on top. I did a build-your-own of a 6 oz. Patty on a pretzel bun, bacon, Gorgonzola cheese, with horseradish mayo and housemade potato chips on the side. I ordered it medium-rare, which turned out to be a crumbly but nevertheless delicious. If I had any complaint about the burger, I would say that it seemed a somewhat skimpy portion of Gorgonzola (which was quite yummy.) As everything is charged separately when you order a build-your-own, having enough of each item do that there is some in every bite would be appreciated. However, it was a generous helping of bacon. The potato chips were amazing - I should have asked for some to take home; cooked there, nice and thin but with a nice crunch and the perfect amount of salt. I had a side of macaroni salad, which had a bit too much green pepper for my taste, but that’s probably only because I’m not crazy about green peppers. Now on to the drinks. We both had our alcohol as dessert, my friend having an Irish coffee, and me a mudslide adult shake. It’s literally been years since I’ve had a mudslide of any kind, and this did not disappoint. Just the right amount of alcohol and sweetness, with a generous serving of whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top. I think they make the whipped there, as it was so thick I needed a spoon to enjoy it. My friend said her Irish coffee, with a generous drizzle of crème dressing menthe on top was also delicious. Our waitress was kind and attentive; there was a slight delay in getting our check, but by the time we left the place was mobbed, so I can understand if she was overwhelmed. Honestly, she may have just been giving us a chance to linger over our drinks (we didn’t tell her we had to leave by a certain time.) A gentleman that we believed to be an owner or at least a manager took my plate at the end of the meal and was pleased that we enjoyed our food as much as we did. If I had any complaints it would be that the parking is terrible and not marked. I’m handicapped, so the six or so spaces right in front should be labeled as handicapped for the guests that need them; I didn’t see any signs indicating this. There was a sign in a one-way alley indicating where to go to park for the restaurant, but unfortunately it was blocked off and we didn’t have a choice but to park in the parking lot of another business and walk a short distance. Also, we were lucky enough to get there before the dinner rush began in earnest and were able to get a booth in the bar. By the time we left around 7:40, the line to get in would have been out the door if it hadn’t been chilly out. I’m glad I didn’t realize until just now that honestly that mob was unsafe should there be an emergency. They need to have a larger waiting area, as I’m sure this is a nightly thing, given how good the food and drinks are. Also, the signage outside was quite dim - we almost drove right past it. It’s situated perpendicular to the road; fortunately our GPS was insistent that we had reached our destination and that I finally saw the sign. All in all, my friend and I will definitely go back the next time we’re in the area. She’s already mentioned that she’s going to recommend Flipside to other friends of hers that live in Greenwich. As the Milford location is closer for me, I’m looking forward to trying that one; hopefully it’s just as good - and the parking is better.More
