Thought I'd been to most local Chinese places. Missed this gem! We catered for a large group and our Chinese friends and ordered a variety of around 15 dishes. Absolutely everything was fabulous.

It is a family custom to have Chinese food when the family comes together for a holiday. We have been disappointed for the last two years as our favorite Take-out had been sold. The food was not up to the previous owners' standards. But I...believe we have found a new place. The food was great. To be honest, this is our second time here and now during a busy time of day so you could have expected some problems with the order. BUT THERE WERE NONE. Wonton soup was enough for two adults, plenty of soup and wontons, with a spicy and savory taste. House fried rice had several large shrimp in the mixture, and a very cooked taste with scallions. Not the brown goop served in several places. Sauteed pork with assorted vegetables was just that: plenty of tender delicious pork and vegetables. Beef with broccoli was also a large serving of beef in a great sauce with plenty of broccoli. Most places only wave a broccoli over the dish. General Tso's chicken was good, but it lacked the spicy goopy sauce we were used to. Next time we will ask for sauce to be added after the chicken is fried.More

We have been trying unsuccessfully to find another real chinese style restaurant in Fairfield with no luck since our standby retired to leisurely pastures two years ago. BUT this may be the place! Restaurant is nicely appointed with decor, and easy listening classic style music...in the background. We were quickly seated. If you are looking for the chichen chow mein, chop suey and egg roll style of food, this is not the place. We started with wonton soup and hot and sour seafood soup which we shared. They are large bowls and made sharing quite easy. Our waiter brought small bowls when he saw what we were doing to make it easier for us. The wonton soup tasted like it was made from chicken (I believe some of the places have the chicken swim through it only), and the wontons were plump full of vegetables and delicious. The hot and sour seafood soup was spicy, leaving a short term afterburn, and it was a show stopper. What we did not know was that the orders are served family style, in large 12 inch bowls. The house fried rice had shrimp, beef and pork pieces thhat you couls readily identify, not search for within the rice. The amount was ample for two people to share. The sliced beef with mixed vegetables sichuan style was a large amount of beef and veggies in the same style 12 inch bowl. It was beyond description. Our waiter was also the front-end manager and we had a delightful informative discussion with him about the food, the restaurant's goals, and the area in general. We will give this place another try in fairness to the other places we did not enjoy.More

Stopped here for a quick lunch. We had been here once before just after the place opened. So we waited forever for them to make some noodles and one other dish. When the food came, it wasn't what I though I had ordered. Seems the...picture in the menu and the description beside it are two different things. Not wanted to wait any longer I ate it anyway. It was so so but I was hungry. An hour after I was so thirsty. The dish must have been loaded with MSG and salt. We would not return.More

My wife and I met friends at Ginkgo last night and had an amazing meal. Our friends ordered the duck, which is this restaurant's signature dish, my wife ordered lo mein and I ordered the crispy chicken and chilis. Every dish was amazing and Roger...the owner is a great guy. The setting and interior is very clean and chic. The location is kind of hidden which is why I didn't realize it was there for the past year. Just a bit of advice for anyone planning on ordering duck, pre-order ahead of time. I was waiting for our table and overheard the front desk inform someone that they were out of duck.More

The test of any good restaurant is consistency in both quality of food and service. I've written reviews on this wonderful restaurant before, and I'm writing again because Ginkgo Sichuan is consistently excellent. This is not your average Chinese restaurant where you'll find a predictable...menu of egg rolls, General Tsao's chicken and sweet and sour shrimp. There are other restaurants in the area which offer that fare. While there are some traditional items on Ginkgo Sichuan's menu, their dishes are, in my opinion, far more interesting. Sichuan cuisine tends to be spicier than Cantonese -- sometimes very spicy, depending on the dish. (Be advised to check with your waitperson about the level of spice that you enjoy -- can tolerate?) Tonight I ordered one of my favorite starters that I'd never seen on any menu, anywhere other than Ginkgo Sichuan: mashed spinach and tofu soup. It's not just for vegetarians.More

We went for the roast Peking duck and everything was greatly improved from a couple of months ago. You have to reserve the duck ahead of time and you can indicate doneness ( we like crispy) . They have gone to new serving dishes so...they now fit on the tables and the items that come with the duck are much better. The duck bone soup now has greens and tofu so more soup than consomme. The duck stir fry has less hot peppers and is tastier. All improvements to an already good meal. The best improvement is the service which I last described as a chinese fire drill. Now the people are trained, attentive and helpful. Service is now better than any other chinese restaurant in fairfield county.More

We were excited to see a new Szechuan restaurant take the spot of the ill fated Jinn’s. Ginkgo is from the same folks as the highly rated Lao Sze Chuan in Milford CT, which has been in operation for quite a while. Ginkgo has redone...the space, and it is traditional Chinese restaurant decor. We have been twice. The first time it was really excellent, the second time very good. The servers are young and competent. They are friendly and offer explanations where need be. There are also illustrations on the menu Incase you need extra help! They seem to sell quite a few Peking Duck Dinners, but you need to reserve ahead of time. This last trip we ordered Hot & Sour soup (very good), Spicy Tofu Skin (takes some getting used to, served cold with a chewy consistency- but very spicy), Dan Dan Noodles (the sauce was very tasty), Chengdu Dumplings in spicy garlic sauce (spicy and good), Salt & Pepper Shrimp (the breading was too heavy), Stir Fried Chili Chicken (very spicy, a little too salty) and Pork Fried Rice (a little greasy) The first time we visited we ordered almost the exact same thing, and it was all cooked to perfection. Maybe just a slightly off night. The restaurant is consistently busy, there are several large tables to accommodate groups. There is a full bar, and some interesting beer choices. Definitely a welcome addition to the Fairfield County Chinese restaurant landscape.More

Lately it seems when ever a new oriental restaurant opens it is a "fusion restaurant" which means it serves Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and maybe other's food. All are modified to American tastes served in a "modern" environment - high stools and bare tables a...necessity. Ginkgo Sichuan is none of those and a delight because of it. They are a Chinese restaurant with primary emphasis on Sichuan dishes but a few gems from the other three food traditions of China. The restaurant is plain and has tastefully sparse decor. A few vases, a couple pictures. a curio cabinet and plain functional tables and chairs. The food is the star and it shines. The customers are overwhelmingly Chinese and it feels a lot like being in Beijing. Most items are served family style but choosing a couple dishes work well for two. The menu is huge and covers meat, seafood, vegetable noodle and and rice. You can find what you want as long as you want it prepared Sichuan style. My wife and I, having recently returned from Singapore, wanted Peking duck but could not find it anywhere in Fairfield County. They offered both a whole and half duck. As is the custom it came with a second course of stir fried duck and vegetables and a third course of duck bone soup with tofu. I was in Asia again! The duck was expertly carved table side and came with ultra thin wrappers or pancakes, Hoisen sauce, cucumbers and scallions. The skin was extra crispy and the whole eating experience wonderful. You must order the duck at least two hours ahead which is great. Most places in other cities require a full day. There are coupons out there for 10% off. The only negative is the service. You have heard of a Chinese fire drill? That would be an improvement. people came disappeared, other came, no one showed for minutes. We did not even know if they had our order for about 20 minutes and paying was about as hard. They are fairly new at his location and I am hoping this only dark item on a bright new restaurant will be resolved.More
