We've lived nearby for years and I pass this restaurant by during my commute, but only within the last month did we finally decide to try it. We ordered pizza for delivery. We really enjoyed the pizza. The delivery was very slow (this was their own delivery, not a service). We went back again as we enjoyed the pizza - this time for pickup.
Pizza -very good. Service - ok.

Attended a group function here. Service was friendly and attentive but food is below par. Started w pizzas-crust has no body or chew and sauce is overly sweet. My entree was veal parm-a huge portion accompanied by ziti. First bite tasted strongly of old fryolater grease and was rather dry. Same lame sauce on top of parm and ziti(not tossed w sauce-just ladled on) My neighbor had "clam strips" which looked awful but what can one expect from these so called "strips of clam"? Much better alternatives than this place!

We have dined here many times in the past and always enjoyed our meal. After being away for some time we returned again. Food was enjoyable as always but the atmosphere was akin to being in a church. So quiet. There was a party setting up in the adjacent room and a few pizza deliveries but other than that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Server had difficulty in understanding what we were ordering. Beer listed as seasonal summer was actually presented as Octoberfest and not good. Was replaced. Beer selection was extremely limited.

I came to this pizza restaurant over 10 years ago with my Godson and the food was quite delicious back then. Yesterday I asked my not-so-picky of an eater daughter what she would like for dinner and she exclaimed “pizza!” I happily obliged!
While in town I thought back to this restaurant, as well as an on-line debate as to who has the best pizza in East Hartford: Charlie’s came up; and I can taste why!
The server “Tanya” was not only very polite but very patient. She catered to my daughter and I like we were the only people there (despite the restaurant not being packed she could have easily just left us to be... #customerservice)! Most importantly, the food was divine!
Not even 24 hours later I came back here with my clients/co-worker and they all concurred that this indeed was far better pizza than a recent trip to (insert famous New London, CT pizza restaurant here). The service again was great!
We were able to order 1/2 and 1/2 pie, slices, not to mention they have wings and other items (didn’t get them this time but maybe next time).
Highly recommend for date night, carry out... oh... and the prices are beyond reasonable!

I give this place a one star! Not because of the food, but because of the service. I believe BOTH are inportant. I've lived in EH for 30yrs, and although i believe they jave the best pizza in town, I CANNOT get past the TWO VERY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES i had there.
**First experience, I had my food delivered (paid by card) I was over charged by $4. I called the restaurant and spoke to the SAME WOMAN(older woman with either an accent or speech impediment), that took my order and mentioned to her that I was over charged. She told me that she was not the owner and couldn't help me and call back the next day. I did. Spoke to a man. He was rude and told me that the owner was not there and "She" would have to refund me. This went on for days to weeks. No matter who I spoke to, no one would help/refund me. I boycotted for a year or two. I decided to try again, thinking that maybe I could get past the offense.
** Second horrible experience. I went online to their website to look at the menu. I saw only 4 coupons, none of whoch applied to what I wanted to order. So I called and placed my order anyway without a coupon. I decide to pick up my order. I arrive and while waiting I see their menu on the counter and I see a coupon that applies to what I order and it was $3 cheaper AND included a 2ltr soda. The only difference is i had 2 toppings instead of one. So I asked if he could allow me to use the coupon and I can pay for the additional topping. He responded with a VERY RUDE "NO!". I explained to him that tjose coupons were not on their website and if they were i would've used it and only had one topping. I asked him if he would allow me to pay the extra topping cost considering their website wasnt up to date with their paper menu. His response was "I dont do the website so i cant help you.!" I was stunned. I was also annoyed. I STRONGLY considered walking out without the pizza. The only reason I didnt, im pregnant and i was "hangry" and had to be to work in an hour so i had to eat. Trust me ...... they have seen my money and my business for the LAST TIME !!!!!!

My family and I went there for lunch. The restaurant is on a corner and there are two entrances, one is handicap accessible. Parking on one side is tricky, close to the street -- but there is plenty of parking on the other side. It's located close to the highway -- 84, 91, and route 2, convenient to get on/off. It was a weekday and not overly crowded. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The restaurant appeared clean and neat. There was a television in the room where we were seated, which is nice if you have kids to keep busy. Even with the television on it was quiet enough to have table conversation at a normal level. The room was a combination dining room and take out area -- you could also see the kitchen if you were standing. Our server was friendly and attentive. They have both a regular menu and daily specials. Two of us chose off the specials menu, which I have included a picture of so you can see descriptions of the food we ordered. The lunch specials came with a cup of the soup of the day (chicken) and rice pudding. A cheese Calzone and a side of Fries were ordered off the regular menu. All of the food came out hot, but not scalding -- perfect eating temperature. The soup was good with nice pieces of chicken, fries were crisp, not greasy, the Calzone was perfectly cheesy, the Giabatto (specials menu) was a good size portion and they didn't skimp on the meats, the Stuffed Tilapia (specials menu) was moist and tasty but the rice it was served on was bland, and the rice pudding was nicely topped with cinnamon. Other than the bland rice the food and the experience was good. We will go back and would recommend stopping, instead of driving by, this nice local restaurant.

This restaurant needs help. The inside looks terrible, and the food looked like it was cooked on a dirty grill. We asked for a salad, and we got it along with our meal, including the bread which should come before everything. The owner was the only one at a table sipping on coffee, and watching the news. Don't get me started on how rotten and old the salad was.

I always stop at Charlie's when I am in the area, or even just driving through Hartford. The pizza is just as good as the first time I had it many years ago, and it is a personal favorite of mine. I enjoyed everything I have had at Charlie's, but the pizza is what I crave if I am just passing through.

I've been to Charlie's several times over the years when I am at this part of the planet. They make a very good pizza and serve wonderful sandwiches. On a recent trip there, I ordered their 1/2 Italian Combo Grinder. (1/2 Grinder = 8 inches long). The bread was great, the sandwich was loaded with lots of meat and cheese and topped off with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. They were out of capicola that day but made a substituion and all was fine.
Sitting in the restaurant, I hope they update this area a bit as there are water stains on the ceiling tiles and the place could look so much better. The food and service was great.
