So last night my wife and I were trying to find some outdoor dining for a long overdue date night... not easy with COVID and with kids... we were on the waitlist for one place for over an hour but we checked online and there...were plenty of reservations for outdoor dining here... red flag #1. We made the reservation and started over. We've lived in Cos Cob for almost 10 years and never came here so we thought, OK, its time to try it. We walk in, and the vibe immediately felt off. We go to our table, and my wife pointed out that the beer pint glasses were free ones from other places... strange. We ordered the oysters, rock shrimp tempura and shishito peppers to start. Oysters were the highlight, blue points, all good. The rock shrimp tempura was sub par, and for $13 you got about 10 tiny shishito peppers, felt like a ripoff. Bad start. She ordered a margarita which the waiter said was great and it tasted like a bad mix from Costco. I got the snapper special and she got lobster bisque and pear arugula salad with manchego cheese. The snapper was fine (maybe a touch overdone), but the asparagus on top was limp and tasteless. The "bisque" seemed more like tomato soup with 5 grams of lobster, complete joke. Her salad was embarrassing: almost no cheese at all, the pears were gross and the candied walnuts had not one full one, and instead was like the crumbs at the bottom of the bag. So for a dinner we were not full at the end (we had to go home and eat another meal), and only got one drink each, and hated the meal, to pay $200 seems like thievery. The service wasn't horrible, but wasn't good. The food was something Applebee's wouldn't feel comfortable serving. But the sunset was nice. We can comfortably check the box on this place and confidently never return. We just don't understand how they possibly can still be in business.More
