I won’t beat around the bush. I grew up on Rossini’s pizza. My grandparents lived right up the street and we’d drive in from Hamden to have dinner with them every Sunday. Nine times out of ten, we’d order Rossini’s.
I can still hear my...grandpa’s voice. He’d ask the same question every time: “What are we gettin’ tonight? Pizza or dinners?” Honestly, it’s a tough choice! The thick-crust pizza is mouth-watering, and if I decide to get a pie, then I’ve gotta decide which one to get! Usually it comes down to sausage and peppers, bacon and tomato, or the Rossini’s Special. You can’t go wrong with any of them. The toppings are generous, there’s a perfect amount of top quality mozzarella, and the sauce... man, is that sauce good. We’d often get containers of sauce on the side with out takeout to make our own Italian dishes during the week. It’s a thinner sauce than you might buy in the store, but the flavor cannot be beat.
I also appreciate the fact that their pizza dough isn’t sweet like a lot of other local places. I have no idea why sweet pizza dough is a thing. Maybe they’re trying to hide the fact that they’re not Rossini’s. In any case, the dough is savory, and the crust has a thin crispy layer on the outside and it’s chewy in the middle. It’s perfect every time. I have no idea how they do it.
Oh right, the dinners! You’d think a place that crafts a perfect pizza would probably not focus much on their entrees, right? Ha! See, this is why it’s hard to choose! When you’ve got pizza that good, but also a lasagna to die for, ravioli stuffed with their own amazing ricotta, and even some fantastic northern Italian chicken dinners... it’s not fair! There’s too much good food.
Basically what I’m saying is, open their menu, put on a blindfold, and point to a random spot. Whatever you land on will be a good choice.More
