I tried several times to go to this place, but it was spring and between ski season and summer season, and they had limited hours, and seemed to keep changing them every time I stopped by (even made a special trip just to go there, one time). And once they said they'd let me in but I had to eat in the bar area. I tried some of their food that a friend ended up getting "carry out" and it was small for the price and mediocre, so I gave up trying to eat inside. It is in a busy, lovely spot, in the middle of all the fun shops and things, and attractive wood Swiss style building.

So I did my research and I was not disappointed. My Girlfriend and I had planned a romantic day away from Denver on our trip there for a vacation!
I made reservations for 12:30pm on a Friday (the weekend before the winter season) and it was busy but we were seated within minutes.
We were greeted to a beautiful Austrian Alps aesthetic and appeal. I do believe the staff may have all been from the area depicted as they all had accents, which did help with the vibe. Lederhosen and dresses were worn by the staff as well. there was dining outside with minimal cover as it was raining so we were seated at a table for two. Very quaint and romantic as a lunch could be. We ordered a flight of Schnapps ($38) and it came prepared on a mini snow ski, adorned with garnishes in wee hiking/mountain-climbing boot shot glasses. I ordered a Pilsner in a tankard (1 pint) for about $12. As an appetizer we got a Big Bavarian style pretzel that hung on a deer antler attached to a charcuterie board. It came with mustard and cheese fondue. That is highly recommendable! My girlfriend ordered the schnitzel and I got he bratwurst and sour kraut. I have to say, it was probably the best I have ever had in my life!!! We followed with a plum crumb cake that just melted in your mouth.
Overall, We spent $171 (including tip) and I am not the richest guy in the world but I felt it was so worth it!!! For the atmosphere, food, and the service, I will so be returning!

The atmosphere was great: we loved the woodwork, the German music, the staff costumes, and the general attempt to make this feel like a German restaurant. We also appreciated that all staff were wearing masks.
Unfortunately, as others mentioned, we were in the porch area that was cold (we were thankful to have a few layers on). It seems like they were able to reseat some groups inside and staff offered blankets to some guests. It wasn't impossible to eat out there, but it wasn't going to be a warm experience; their heaters didn't seem to do much.
The food wasn't great except that the weisswurst was one of the best we've ever had in our lives. The pretzel that came with it was over-baked and bland (as was the side of cheese I got with it) and the rest of the dinner was typical German food, nothing particular special. The wine list was abysmal -- definitely should have brought a bottle or committed to beer instead.

My group did the gondola dining. The experience was unique, however service was minimal and the food is not authentic.
We were only checked on when delivering drinks and ordering food, which may have been to prevent open doors too much and letting cold air in, however there were windows they could have signaled or spoken through to see if we needed more water or drinks.
For food, I ordered the Oktoberfest Hax’n, which on the menu is described as a crispy pork shank with fresh baked German pretzel, mustard and Obazda cheese. It was not crispy, but I ate some of my meal because we were not checked on after the food was delivered for me to mention the issue in a timely manner. When I brought it to the notice of the waiter an hour later, they told me it was because it was slow braised and the Wiener schnitzel is their only crispy dish, even after I mentioned it was described as crispy on their menu. I subbed spätzle for the pretzel, and the noodles are packaged and not homemade. I paid full price for the meal.

Went there with a party of 6. Reservation process, seating, ambience and service were very good, but food was truly, really bad. We had 5 schnitzels and one "crispy" duck legs. All items were precooked and then warmed up. Schnitzel was heavily breaded and tasted like cardboard. Duck was lukewarm and anything but crispy. Shame on the owners and chef imho. But as a business - pushing such food since 1974 is pure genius. What is the likelihood that one would return here? The only good thing we had was a pretzel. Overall, it felt like a tourist trap focused on pushing through bodies at his cost. AVOID.

The restaurant is so cute, the chandeliers with pretzels, the cozy tables & chairs with pillows & blankets, the curtains. I loved the ambiance! The Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine with sugar cube) was a fun interactive drink. The cheese fondue for two appetizer was delicious and came in a cute heart shaped dish. The schnitzel was good, but the spätzle was a little pasty and bland. The schnapps was undrinkable, I couldn't take more than two sips of it. Definitely not like the schnapps I had in Austria. Service was okay, I feel like there were a few lulls, but it was a busy dinner service.

We needed some food and decided to stop here for a bit. Most of the food was bland and mediocre at best. The amount of schnitzel you get for $28 is criminal and the spatzel was bland. I would rather have some other side options. This is their lunch price too, which is pretty insane.
Decided to order a pretzel for $14 with beer cheese (a $4 charge). The pretzel was alright, no better than anything you’ll get a movie theater or pretzel stand. Very little flavor. It’s a good thing I ordered the beer cheese because the mustard wasn’t very good.
Over $60 on lunch for one person. Our entire party spent $100 on lunch for a couple pieces of pork…
Hot apple cider was nice. Nothing too special.
Service was attentive.
The restaurant itself is cozy and a nice cabin vibe. Fits the area.
This place is definitely a tourist trap and I would not visit again.

So much fun!!!! My husband and I did the Gondola Experience and it was PERFECT!!! The hostess gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. The gondola is cozy and comfortable. It’s heated and there is a music box where you can Bluetooth and play your own music. The way it works is there is a salad ready for you to eat when you arrive, and then you get to cook veggies and/or meat either in a broth or on a grill. It’s similar to Japanese hibachi. There is cheese that you can put in trays under the grill to make raclette and dip homemade bread into. The waitress hit the right balance between being attentive but also letting us relax and enjoy the gondola. I’m vegetarian and was worried the grilling or broth format would be difficult but Alpenrose went above and beyond to makes sure I had options. I love this restaurant and their attention to detail. It’s one of the best in the Valley! Thank you for a fun night out!!!

A must visit in Vail village. Visited for the first time tonight. I was welcomed at the door by two wonderful staff members who were friendly and so courteous.
My server, Bianka, was similarly lovely and worm. The restaurant has an alpine feel and the food is delicious. Mulled wine, hunter soup, truffle bratwurst and apple strudel were all delicious and a much needed hearty meal after a day of skiing.
I will definitely be back.

We made reservations for a Satuday when they opened but stumbled on a Friday night here and wanted to grab a drink, they ARE Very strict with reservations even though the restaurants was only at 50% capacity on a Friday evening. We said we woul like to come have a drink and snack this was around 6:10 pm, we were told a party is coming at 6:30 so we need to be FAST... a little rude but okay.
We had a drink, $15-18 for a small drink- they were great though. The food, very MEH. Pretzel and cheese will run you close to 20 bucks.. Pretzel was cold.. Cheese average. My husbands cheese soup was okay, probably better than any of the other apps.
I cancelled my Saturday reservation and I didnt see the need to return. Mgmt should probably train hosts to be a little nicer and friendlier, you never know who will be coming through those doors.

Went in for lunch for a party of 3. It's been a long time since I was last here and I don't care for the current location - restaurant is a lot smaller than the one I remember a decade ago.
We sat in the covered porch...which isn't kept very warm. Several tables asked the staff to bring blankets which they did.
Prices are high and portions are small. We started with $7 hot chocolate. Bill for 3 with tip and just the hot chocolate and water to drink was $125. Atop that there is no free parking in Vail. It cost $45 to park for 2 hrs in the garage closest to the restaurant.
The food was average quality - I've had much better German food at many other places.

While the outdoor seating was great and the staff was attentive, we were disappointed with the schnitzel. It appeared to be a previously frozen, pre-breaded patty. It was little tough without much flavor. Servers and hosts in Lederhosen are great but they need to focus on the food.

Perfect place to cozy up on a snowy winter night. We were seated indoors in a roomy booth near the entrance (loved the heater below the bench). Ordered the beef tartare to start and loved the presentation of that - on a big board- as well as the Caesar salad - served in a big wooden (flour?) scoop. How do they store all these serving pieces! Entrees were the short rib and pork shank which were both tasty. We’ll be back for sure!

Although the ambience is warm and authentic and the service good I am sorry to report the food just wasn't up to snuff! We had the schnitzel and it tasted as though it had been prepared much earlier in the day and warmed up as the breading wasn't crisp and the portion was small and the accompanying spaetzle lacked taste. The house salad was fresh and tasted good and the dessert, a blueberry cake was nice. But, overall the Alpenrose food was a disappointment.

I don’t ever write reviews, but then at this dinner I actually discussed how there’s probably a bias of reviews toward negative reviews. So now I’m here to prove my earlier conjecture incorrect. You see, I loved this meal. The waitresses wear hats. I enjoy hatted-hospitality. Particularly when the people wearing the hats, bring with them incredible food. And that’s what they do so well here. BRING. INCREDIBLE. FOOD. That’s their thing. In fact, Alpenrose is Austrian for “soft noodle.” The food, the atmosphere, and the pretzel. Did I mention the pretzel? Sheesh. That was special. But why is the salt only on the bottom? Why not more spread of the salt? But I digress: the pretzel, the steamed salmon, the spinach dumplings and the meat ribs (the short kind) were all truly fantastic. *Assertive nod of approval*
