We visit this restaurant every time we are in Vail and the food is always outstanding as well as the atmosphere. It is awesome if you get to sit outside with views of Gore Creek.....so beautiful. We started with the pork belly appetizer and it...was awesome. I had the Alaskan Halibut for my meal and it was wonderful too. My husband had the lamb which he loved.More

We were so lucky to get in due to the reservations and COVID of limited seatings. This was our first time and were seated outside. Being in the restaurant business and owning one it was so delightful to be served with excellence along with exceptional...drinks and food. Everything was delicious! If you are ever in Vail I would recommend you call ahead a week to reserve a table and it will be totally worth the wait.More

sweet basin and mountain standard have the same owner. This restaurant seems a little different on decor and ambiance but in a good way. The food and drinks are good. It's very close to Mountain Standard. you can dine inside or outside. Great staff.

We love to visit Vail, not just for the outdoors, but for the fine dining. Last night we dined on the patio at our favorite, Sweet Basil. As always, it did not disappoint. My partner and I split an heirloom tomato salad, with a dressing...with just the right tang and sprinkles of olives. Delicious. Then we split the Halibut, with a combination of a cream sauce, small kernels of corn, and slices of sausage. The combination was sensational. We would not have picked the malt and salt desert had our wait person not recommended it. A great recommendation. The service was attentive, pleasant, and professional. Still our favorite place in Vail!More

Sweat Basil is located right on the river that runs through Vail. We sat overlooking the river and enjoyed the people watching. Lunch was excellent and reasonably priced. Great place to relax and just “be” in Vail.

As I was out of town on business and had a choice of where to dine, I selected Sweet Basil. I asked to sit outside and was shown a table in the back inside without a view and declined. The host told me there weren’t...any tables outside, so I chose sitting at the bar. It made me wonder why I couldn’t be seated outside as there were plenty of empty tables. Thomas was my bartender/server. Initially, he was charming. He made a fantastic margarita. I reviewed the menu (see attached photo) and asked about the lamb. I prefer a meat temperature of rare plus, so settled on the flat iron steak. The steak came with mushrooms and chives, as noted on the menu. Because I was on an expense account, I asked Thomas if he could separate the cocktails from the dinner, on two separate tickets. He said that he could. Then I asked Thomas for vegetables and he said “Chef would charge extra” so I declined. When the stake came out, it was covered in dairy, which I’m allergic to. So I asked Thomas to remove the items with dairy and he became upset and scolded me stating that I should have told him I was lactose intolerant. After reviewing the menu I pointed out to Thomas that the steak selection didn’t indicate that there were dairy items included. The menu read: mushrooms and chives, which I could eat. When the steak came out, I had the vegetables I originally asked for, but the steak was overcooked and full of pepper. I have trouble swallowing and since pepper makes me choke, I only ate the vegetables and boxed up the $50. steak for my dog. When the bill came, it was all on one ticket. I kindly asked Thomas to create one ticket for the cocktails and one ticket for the steak again. This pushed Thomas over the edge and he lost his cool. I noted that there were two bartenders and only 8 people total at the bar over the course of an hour and a half. Coming from the service industry, I thought that was manageable. Thomas was no longer charming but irritable with me. I felt terrible and had an awful experience myself. Thinking about how times are tough for many, I paid my bill, left Thomas more than a 20% tip and also left him a home made CD music mix. Thomas didn’t even have the decency to wish me a good evening as I left Sweet Basil. Wow! My experience at Sweet Basil was extremely poor, but I decided to be the better person and rise above that situation, despite the fact that I went to bed hungry, had a stomach ache, and paid $100. to be abused by Thomas. Remember, diners have a choice where to eat. Next time, I will choose somewhere else. Sweet Basil just fell off my radar when in Vail.More

Date night while on workcation in Vail. We sat out on the back patio - great atmosphere. Dinner was great. Food was well presented and flavorful. Our waitress was attentive but not hovering. Would highly recommend.
