About
From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience

Four of us had lunch here and 3 had good food. Unfortunately the lamb Cuban sandwich was very greasy so we couldn't give 5 stars. The turkey club, shrimp and grits, and wedge salad were all delicious. Shrimp and grits only comes in app size,...More

Our adult children love to come every time we are in Vail for the pork shank. Most recently, we had a party of 7 the night there was a pork fixed price menu. Honestly, before arrival, we were open to doing this. I don’t know,...More

We had a reservation at another restaurant- cancelled it to eat at Mountain Standard. Best decision! Can't say enough about the food, the service and the atmosphere. Our highlights were the lamb tartare, the chicken piri piri and the chocolate pie.

The atmosphere is relaxed and on the rustic side. The food is outstanding, (the pork shank is amazing). The only downside was having the male server expend efforts to upgrade our bottle of wine order to a more expensive bottle. Not neccessary

My daughter and I are at the restaurant while in Vail for a visit to the Steadman clinic. Restaurant was lively (mud season plus a late season snow storm = very quiet town!). Food and service excellent. Would definitely recommend and return.

We have been there with local friends and we appreciated the variety of dishes offer from meat to fish. Great salad to start and then a delicious trout. Chili chicken great too. Good wine list on the expensive side..........

We stopped by to try to eat. We were told it would be a 3 hour wait even though there were empty tables in the dining and bar areas. We decided to just go somewhere else.

We happened upon it on a summer weekday when very few places were open and were very pleasantly surprised at both the quality of the dishes and the service. I had a chicken dish & my friend had fresh fish. Both were very tasty. Service...More

On a day trip to Vail and several folks recommended Mountain Standard. Pleasing decor - not too casual, not too stiff. Clean, well organized. Our waitress was great. Recommended the shrimp bisque entree and the onion rings and they were awesome. Not one complaint. All...More

Smoked VENISON CARPACCIO.... We came back for this dish twice and ordered two in the row. The Mountain Trout was great, too. And the fries are worth the sin :-))

I would doubt it if they could handle a large group. It is a very busy restaurant in a tight space.
