La nonna is understated from the outside but my wife and I spent our second evening here while we stay in Vail and we have to say from a food and service perspective it’s one of the best restaurants we have visited in our two...weeks here. It was always good in previous seasons but unlike a lot of other places that feel a little tired after a couple of covid years La Nonna is even better. On both visits so far we have had a super welcome from Heather, great cocktails at the bar, nice service but most importantly really good food. 100% recommended.More

We have coming to this place one or two times a year for decades- first as Campo dei Fiori and for the last five years as La Nonna. The food has always been good and authentic Italian. This visit was no different, the gnocchi, tagliatelle...al cinghiale, linguine and starters were all delicious. We really love the Italian centric wine list. I have two issues that caused me to change my opinion of the restaurant and will likely make this our last visit. The first is the reservation process. I was aware from past experience that reservations are only accepted by phone starting at 3 pm MST thirty days out. I called at exactly 3 pm MST thirty days out and for 15 minutes received a busy signal. When I finally managed to get through at 3:15 pm, I requested a 7 pm reservation, but was only able to secure a 5:15 pm reservation. I find it impossible to believe that a restaurant with many tables as La Nonna filled the entire restaurant in 15 minutes. Clearly there is a “back door” process to reserve tables at this restaurant. My second issue was how we felt rushed. A few minutes after we ordered cocktails, our server stopped by to take our food orders and told us the restaurant management requires that appetizers and entrees must be ordered at the same time. Our appetizers arrived the same time as our cocktails. Our wine was served before our we had finished our cocktails or the appetizers. Our entrees arrived a short time later. We had not been in the restaurant 30 minutes and all our food and beverages had been served. So much for a relaxing dining experience. It’s sad - becauseMore

Was surprised after reading this restaurant’s award history that the food was just average. The mushroom raviolis were understuffed so no flavor or texture inside. For $35 it was so disappointing. The veal Marsala’s broth had a nice flavor but could have used more mushrooms,etc...and the veal was not the finest quality. Having been spoiled by true homemade Italian cooking, and fortunate to have eaten in many great Italian restaurants, I may be more critical than most.More

We were bummed we couldn’t get a reservation at La Nonna. However, locals had advised us to show up at 4:45pm to get a bar seat. So, that is what we did. We were first in line! We were fortunate that a reservation had cancelled...so we got to sit in the dining room which was so warm and comfy. Our waiter Jason was great! We had incredible pasta (the mushroom ravioli with truffle oil was to die for!). All the pastas are homemade! We are so glad we got to dine at this great restaurant. We will be back the next time we are in town!More

We’ve been many times over the years and always love the food. We went last night with our friends and as usual the food was great EXCEPT one of our friend ordered the pork chop med-rare and it came out med in parts and med-well...in others. He nicely asked the server to bring another chop. A minute later, the chef comes out with the plate and starts arguing with him as to how it was cooked and wouldn’t back down. I saw the chop and it WAS overcooked as ordered and the chef was completely out of line. As we have circulated this around town it seems this chef has a rep for this sort of thing. Is the chef’s rudeness worth the good food? I think NOT as there are plenty of alternatives in and around Vail.More

This is a consistent place and we have had similar experiences as other reviewers. Come with a sense of humor. You'll start downstairs at the coat check. The woman working the check this year was more aggressive than last year: when we said we wished...to keep our jackets she warned us that putting them on our chair backs would not be permitted because it interfered with staff. If that actually had been the case, we would have brought our jackets back but the reality was that our table backed up to another table and the people sitting at both had just enough room to have our backs to each other without issue: _no_ server was getting through between our tables so it was a non-issue that our jackets were there. Once you've navigated past her you'll head upstairs to the host stand. It has been our experience that they (there always seems to be two people there) will both be on the phone and unable to even indicate they see you in front of them for at least a minute. Don't worry: they'll get to you when they are ready. Be sure to have a reservation. Finally, once you are seated service is usually pretty prompt and the food is good. Cocktails were great (as always) and the wine list was reasonable: we had a delicious barolo for a not unreasonable price. Pasta dishes are big so come hungry, share, or plan on leftovers (if you want to avoid wasting food). We appreciated that our server let us know that one of the appetizers we ordered only had 4 pieces and, since we were a group of 6, did we want to add two more (not asking us to double our order but just to add half of one). Every one loved the pasta; only one of us avoided leftovers.More

The pastas were excellent. Portion on fish of the day (Grouper) was tiny < 4oz. Boar Ragu and Pappardelle were the highlights for our group.

Absolutely incredible food in a very charming setting. Cocktails are hand crafted and delicious. We would have happily eaten here multiple days in a row if our schedule would have permitted it. Highly recommend!

This restaurant was generally very highly recommended by out hotel’s front desk. We went on a weeknight and didn’t think we’d have an issue getting a table. The hostess was very snooty and advised there were only inside tables and to come back in an...hour if want to sit outside. We were offered an inside table. We took the inside and five minutes later saw the outside open up. Things happen but her attitude was not appreciated. The food though was Ok. Pastas were over cooked (mushy not al dente) and sauces (i had bolognese) after the table next door said not to get meatball since Im from NYC. Again was OK. Wife got zucchini linguine dish and tasted OK. Made friends with couple at next table they had similar feelings that food was Ok. Wine list was good. Prices were high but we were in Vail so expected. Restaurant was attractive and very busy for a weeknight. In summary if used to really good Italian food this may place may not live up to the recommendations but its a nice setting and the service (not hostess) were very accommodating.More

The place is so energetic. From the moment we arrive we knew we were somewhere special. The hostess/ owner was friendly, and sat us upon our arrival. The waitress was friendly, informative and provided excellent service. The food was delicious and there were so many...choices! We loved it so much we made a reservation to comeback before we left. I was to give a shout out to our waitress. Dunja and our waitress from Maldivia.More

Mira was so rude and also the person at the phone taking care of reservations, she claimed they have the best reviews ever so she felt comfortable and confident with their service, I think she’s omitting the bad ones and not seeing her reality, tons...of clients have been complaining about their service specially they phone attention, they are so confident of being a great restaurant that they forget about costumer service!!! These people definitely needs to know they are not number one in vail and they are far away to be. Because their attitude and the easy they approached to their potential clients! What a shame when Liz and luv aren’t there no one can’t afford the high service their clients needs and deserved. Cero starts to this restaurant in VailMore

Ate here with my brother in law while out for a ski trip. Burrata was great. Pasta was fresh. Service was attentive. If you are in the mood for Italian and in the area, it’s a good spot.
