This is a perfect place to eat a $4 hamburger for $19 and watch Texas tourists get fleeced. At least the server was honest — “I have too many tables so I’m just going to give you your own pitcher of water.” Nice ambience if...you’re into lots and lots and lots of taxidermy. OK service if your standards are low.More

We stopped here because it looked fun. It ended up being one of the worst restaurants we have ever patronized, anywhere. While the elk and buffalo burgers (about $19) were okay and clearly fresh, the burgers were overcooked and the silverware was the cheapest we...have ever seen. The knife wouldn't even cut the tomato and onions. The waitress was absolutely horrible. She never asked how our meal was, never offered drink refills, or dessert. Her and three other waitresses stood behind our table the whole time gossiping, complaining about colleagues, talking about getting drunk and what they were going to do after the restaurant closed for the season. Menus were filthy and not cleaned between customers. Likewise, the ketchup and other condiments weren't sanitized between customers. I never saw staff at the bar wash their hands. Everyone we encountered at our hotel and elsewhere in Silverton had the same experience as us. Do yourself a favor. Avoid this restaurant. You would be better off buying Clif bars from the gas station.More

Attempted to eat here on a recommendation but never got to try the food because after 30 minutes we left because there was no service and nobody even came by to tell us there was a staffing problem. We know restaurants are having problems with...staffing but this was really unfortunate. I hate to give them a bad review without not tasting the food but what are you going to do if you can’t get served.More

We love this place and ate here twice during our stay in Ouray. Food is excellent, staff is superb, decor is perfect! Highly recommend Tracy at the bar and Leo! They take great care of anything you need. Co-owner Alyce is a sweetheart and thoroughly...enjoyed learning about the history of the restaurant.More

The food was good. The hostess at the door was pretty cranky but our waiter was friendly. They are super busy when the train comes to town and the prices reflect that you are hostage to the little area.

This place has a fun environment, but the tables are situated very close to each other - so not much room for movement. Food was good and was a good choice to eat at/stop in on the train layover back to Durango. Although the place...was hopping and was full to the brim, the service and food delivery was fast and tasty.More

I'm a regular visitor to Durango and Silverton. Handlebars is your best bet in Silverton. They have the most extensive menu, good food, and for the tourists this place will take you back your image of the mining days. I can't recall a disappointing meal...there, but I can recall some very fun afternoons there. One downside of being the most popular restaurant is, when Silverton & Durango train arrives it will be overrun with the crowd. So, avoid the lunch hour if you can, but if you're arriving by train you should RUN to the two blocks to Handlebars to get in first.More

We enjoyed the authentic feel of this restaurant. Each of our party enjoyed our meal. We were impressed with the customer service we received. When we expressed that one of our meals was a bit dry, the server returned a few minutes later with a...new meal cooked perfectly. Not many restaurants would do that these days.More

Handlebars was one of the recommendations of our server on the narrow-gauge train from Durango. We were very glad we went there for lunch. The ambiance reminded us of what it must have been like in the early days of this mining town - very...rustic, rough, and yet warm and fun. When we arrived, there was a bit of a line so we decided to grab two empty seats at the bar. The bartender/manager, Rocky, was great. She was a hard worker, but very friendly and helpful. The owner of the bar, Ken Boden, came over to greet us as well. He has owned the restaurant since it opened in 1989. Quite a character and we enjoyed talking with him. The food was excellent. I opted for the Elk burger and gazpacho, while my wife had the Reuben with fries. Big portions and all so delicious!More

Leo and Sherry were super! We had an hour and they got us in and out and we had great service and food! They are one block back from the Train. Go to the stop sign and take a left and they are on the...left! We had chicken fried steak, pot pots, onion rings and salads! All delish! Job well done!More

This is the kind of place you're looking for in the laid back, dirt road, high country town of Silverton. The walls are covered in wildlife trophies, western artifacts, and goofy posters. You could spend hours checking out everything in this place. The service was...fairly quick, considering the restaurant was full at dinner time. We were train riders staying overnight, but many of the diners appeared to be locals. That tells you the place will be good, and it was. Plenty of good choices on the menu along with a full bar and beer selection. My only complaint was that the staff was running around so fast that we were afraid we would get whacked by one of them as they whizzed by our table. But it's a fun place in a cool little mountain town.More
