When my wife and I travel and stay some place a week or more like this trip to Pagosa Springs, we like to always eat good food but have a couple of "really nice meals". nWe chose Alley House for one of those. We were not disappointed. With being seniors and an early start on a Tuesday night, we got a discount on drinks and a starter. We had their lemon Drop Martini's (Yum!) with pot sticker starters, and then a glass of red with our Petite Filet and Lamb Rack entrees. Everything was delicious and filling. Unfortunately no room for desert this night. Overall a great meal. Excellent service and delicious food. A clear thumbs up recommendation.

I dont know who thought up the name, but I almost didnt go here because the name of the place made it sound like a back alley bar. However, it turns out it is a renovated old house, with old quaint window frames and a (nonworking) fireplace, hardwood floors, etc. There are 3 places to sit - outside porch (but lots of traffic) - a lower bar area, but TVs and a bit loud, and - the main large "living room". The decor is comfortable, but not fancy, (except for the white tablecloths) so I was shocked at the menu... $50 for most items, such as the fillet mignon which I ordered, which came with a dab of mashed potatoes and 2 stalks of broccoli. (not even bread) That being said, the meat was perfectly done. Although I like my steak medium well, it was served a bit more medium rare. I had just had a bad experience at a very highly rated restaurant in Denver, and it was chewy, and my waitress and I discussed this. It came out a bit more rare than I prefer, but was very tender. The wine was very good, too. Attentive service: there were 2 wait/ 3 bus people running around the room all night. This was a Tuesday night! and it was full. People dressed nice but not fancy. (no one wore a mask; and I had a cool breeze hitting me from the ceiling vent)

The food was excellent, the setting is beautiful but the real pearls are the staff and service. Our drinks came quickly (the wines get a healthy pour). The wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Other staff were quick to pick up empty plates and our water glasses were never empty. The rack of lamb is excellent. Others at our table had scallops and filet mignon. Everything was excellent. We split the Thai Caesar and it was definitely a different take on a traditional Caesar. E

We were celebrating a friend's "special" birthday and decided to splash out on this restaurant even though it seemed the most expensive in town.
The ambiance when we arrived seemed OK but from there on it was a disaster! The beverage service was slow and several of the drinks we requested were 'not available tonight!" Our server's attention seemed to wander. Only one of us ordered an appetizer (the Curried Mussels) they were excellent but when asked for bread the server brought 2 thin slivers of dry toast. It took forever for the main courses we ordered to arrive and when they did they were poorly presented and turned out to be lukewarm at best. When we asked to see the Manager he came grudgingly and did not seem to care. Incensed we asked for the bill for the drinks. It came after another long wait and repeated requests and included the appetizer.
Finally we got out of the Restaurant feeling disgusted that we had wasted a special occasion here and with a bill of just under $80 for our drinks and the appetizer. We will never go back!

Based on reviews we picked Alley House Grille to pick-up nice dinner while traveling in the area. We were initially told take-out would be 1 hour, arrived to be told it would take an additional hour, and then were called to say it was ready in 20 minutes versus the extra hour expected which had our food sitting an extra 10 minutes while we made our way back to restaurant.
Good news - our two entrée's were good (Tuna, Filet Mignon) as were our salads (Beet, Thai Caesar).

The Alley House is always on our list of must eat places during our annual trip to Pagosa. First , I had 10 back and forth emails to make our reservation as they were not answering the phones when I called several times. They were friendly and accommodating once we got it all settled. This was our first visit since their expansion. It was great to see much more seating and the beautiful new space. Their new cocktails were great and we loved the Peach Ring. However, paying what we paid for dinner, we should not have had to spend the entire meal swatting flies and sweating because the patio door remained open and it appeared there was no AC in the new addition, which doesn’t work when it was 99 degrees. Our waters were warm, the mashed potatoes cold and my scallops were teeny tiny. We have had wonderful experiences here in the past but this was not one of them.

My wife and I have been 15 year fans of the food ,the service and atmosphere of the Alley House. Our recent dining experience changed our minds!! The recent addition looks nice from the exterior and interior, however the football crowd noise that drifted in to the dining room was loud and unpleasant. The waitress was prompt to take our order, however she never once returned to see how we were doing. The $50 filet was luke warm at best and the chocolate cake tasted like a City Market mark down. We spoke with many locals the next day and they all said the same thing, Alley House is NOT what it used to be.

The newly remodeled restaurant is beautiful and the staff is exemplar. The food, however was only average. The portions were small, food cooled down as if it sat for awhile before being served. We will wait until Covid restrictions are over before we try eating here again...

I'm from the East Cost and prefer wood-fired pizza that has a thinner, crispier crust; also prefer mushroom/truffle pizza to have higher quality mushrooms. Very skimpy on the sauce. Would not get their pizza again. Hostesses may have been overwhelmed, but they made no eye contact.

This is one of only two very good dinner meals we enjoyed in Pagosa Springs. I had the vegetarian lasagna with a caesar salad and she had the sea scallops with wilted spinach. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and very tasty. Service outside on the balcony was good and they lit the heater when the sun went down. Brittney was attentive and helpful. We recommend Alley House Grille.

Everything was amazing! I got the filet and it was cooked to perfection. My husband got the lamb chops and enjoyed them. The person who raved the most got the salmon and said it was the best he has ever had. The service was great, we have our one year old and made a last minute request to be moved outside since she was being a little restless. They were very understanding and helpful and got us moved. We will only be in Pagosa Springs for a short time but are already talking about trying to come back before we leave town!

As a former professional chef I am typically very critical, but the cuisine and service here are probably the best in Pagosa Springs. This is a great place for a special occasion or if you just want a nice high-end dining experience in this small town. All the food is top notch, but the salmon and the fillet mignon are outstanding.

Nice place, Tim are server did a good job. We came in to check the restaurant out, first time in Pagosa, we came in for the Happy Hour Special. 25% off appetizers
We ordered drinks and 5 different appetizers
Calamari it was good
Pork belly ok
Shrimps with prosciutto , shrimp bland
Fried cauliflower ok
Bruschetta ok
We had desserts
Peach cobbler. Very good
Pumpkin bread pudding Very good
Maple cake ok
My disappoint in this restaurant Is that you had to set at bar stools to receive the discount.
We should have read the complete post to see you had to set at bar stools, and I think our server should have told us when we just ordered appetizers that we needed to be at the bar stools.

We made reservations and had dinner on a Friday night. Pricey but well worth it with good wine selections and delicious, chef prepared dishes. Staff was masked and tables were spaced out. They also have a covered patio for less formal setting.

Food was excellent, but new decor in bar area means tables in that area are subject to more noise. Steaks were fabulous. Everyone in the group loved their meals. It may be quieter inside the restaurant but due to social distancing they are separating tables so less available seating inside.
