I had dinner here on my recent stay in Mancos. The food was excellent (my local Mexican place should take notes) and the service was excellent as well. They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from, the prices were good and you can sit inside or outside on their patio. I would highly recommend Chavalos for a great meal with great service

We ate there twice in a two or three week period while traveling in the area. Service was very quick and friendly. Both my wife and I really enjoyed I had Fajitas the first trip and Enchiladas Suizas the second and both times thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. There was a mix of locals and tourists, good music on the sound system and a World Cup game on the TV this last time. Our server, both times, I think was the owner or manager. He was friendly and personable. We enjoyed our chat with him. The place was very clean, friendly atmosphere and the food was good. What more can you ask for!

We stopped through on our way to a cabin rental nearby and will definitely stop again. Wife had the Chile Rellano lunch and I had the Burrito lunch. Plates came out hot, and the portions were more than we could eat. Great prices but the flavor was definitely in the food. Top shelf Margaritas on the rocks yummy. Staff very friendly.

Over the last year I've eaten here about five times. Every single time it's been awful. The servers are rude and like a million other reviews on here no one takes drink orders, brings menus, and it takes forever to get genuinely awful food to the table. I've brought people to the restaurant that couldn't believe how bad it was on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, it's the only Mexican place for thirty minutes in any direction so you might end up going back for more punishment. Last time I ordered enchiladas with beans and rice. Came out with no beans, and the waitress says "oh we're out of beans". The enchiladas and rice were literally cold, but the enchiladas were so tough that you had to use a knife to cut them. I asked them to heat them up and it took twenty minutes to get them back. By then everyone else was done eating. If you look at some other recent reviews you'll see the bad service and cold/dry food mentioned. I seriously wonder if they're properly handling food if it's not even being heated up, and clearly has been sitting around long enough to get dry and hard to chew/cut. This is just a typical example of how it goes. If there was any competition in town this place would go out of business in a week. AVOID.

We were in Mancos from Durango on April 16, and asked around about where to grab a late lunch. Chavolos was recommended, so we gave it a try. The place was neat and clean and service was prompt. Menu prices were lower than comparable places in Durango, and the food was pretty darned good. Only problem was that their draft beer system was broken, but they had adequate selections of bottle and can beer. Also, cocktail selection was limited. The odd thing was that there seemed to be only one guy doing all the work in the place — waiting tables and preparing food. Even there were a few other customers there, service and food were very good. My rating is in light of two facts. Mancos is a VERY small town, and all restaurants in CO are just now now getting their acts together after all the shut downs and rule changes caused by the pandemic. This one had its act together better than most we have recently visited.

I live in Mancos and have been going to Chavolos since it opened. Recently the food does not seem to be as good as it used to be. A few days ago, I got some takeout, and the food was not hot and the tacos were just a mess of something wrapped in a flour tortilla. The enchiladas were not well prepared, and they did not have rellenos and the rice and beans were cold. Sad to see a good Mexican restaurant not maintain is quality of food. My wife and I were very disappointed.

I know 2020 was a tough year for everyone. I can understand the challenges of finding fresh food at decent prices as well as staff to work, (ive been in the industry 30 years), this being said, i have reached the final straw with Chavolos Mancos. This is the 5th time in so many months that we have been extremely disapointed. Everyone has a bad day, and unless we have had the misfortune of choosing that day every month for half a year, i'd say something has changed there. We got 2 smothered chimis and they were stone cold. The service is unexceptional. She (server) was nowhere to be seen, didnt check back, and didnt ask why we hardly touched our food. We drive 40 miles to enjoy Chavolos as we absolutely used to love the food AND the service. No more. Its unfortunate.

We had planned a dinner in another spot in Mancos on our last night in the Four Corners region before flying back home. But, alas, that eatery was closed for the season and we believed a trip to the small grocery was in order. Not realizing (our error) that Chavolos was open and but a walk away from our motel, we were directed there by our motel host - and how happy we became. We were warmly greeted by Memo, the manager, who became our adviser, server and guide during our memorable dinner. The pleasantly designed facility's menu had a huge variety of food choices and one of the best Mexican beer selections we'd seen in a long while. After Memo answered questions re: our possible choices, we both ordered camarones (shrimp) specialties. Great sauces by the resident cook from Jalisco, very fresh ingredients, less emphasis on rice and beans (well prepared) and delicious brew from the tap and frequent visits and chat with Memo, all led to the great last meal on our very special week. Whether just driving through, staying nearby (especially in Cortez) or following our choice in avoiding Durango, one should not miss an opportunity to dine here. As with other food and lodging costs in Mancos, the prices are low; values are high.

The server seemed as if she were irritated because I asked for a vegetarian taco salad. I asked for no onions. They loaded it up with onions. Otherwise the merlot and chips were good. But I couldn’t eat the salad because of all the onions. I hate leaving non positive reviews but this isn’t going to slide.

The guacamole, chips and margaritas were good past that there were issues. It took a long time to get our food and 40 min and three requests to get water. those who ordered after us were gone before we had our entrees which 3 out of came out cold. We sent them back and and they came back cool. They used hot pads and warned us the plates were hot but they were barely warm. We had to find someone to get our bill ll because our waiter was MIA. Come for the chips and margaritas go somewhere else for main course.

I've had a lot of mexican food, and this place was average at best - maybe even below average. Food was bland, lukewarm to cold when it arrived after a very long wait. Waitress was pleasant enough, but the food was not good. Wish we had gone on to Cortez.....

We were in Mancos for just one night and the motel owner recommended Chavolos to us. It was very close to the motel so we went for dinner. They were a bit busy but we were seated right away. We would have opted for the patio but found that it was ok to smoke out there - and there were quite a few smokers - so we sat inside instead. My guy had a combo plate and I had a carne asada quesadilla - both were excellent. I ordered a Mango Margarita and it was fine (I'd never had one before) but think I would rather have had a regular Margarita. Chips and salsa were excellent too. While the guacamole was good, I am a "less is more" person who likes avocado, a bit of onion and lime/lemon juice. Theirs has big chunks of onion, cilantro, etc. Again, it was good, but not my favorite. They have a large menu so I think anyone could find a favorite there!

Positivities include a friendly staff, quick service, and very generous portion sizes. As mentioned the serving sizes are very generous, but (and this is strictly personal) everything has a spicey component and for someone who doesn’t love spicey items it did make it hard to eat. The menu does not come with descriptors for many of their items. This proved to be a problem for my husband and I because we ordered a dish without knowing what came on the dish and ended up unable to eat it due to dietary restrictions. Ultimately, I’ve had better Mexican food, but after 24 hours of driving I was hangry and this did the job.

This should not have been a difficult order. I ordered two crispy tacos that came with rice and beans. I asked for only beans, no rice. I got soft tacos instead of crispy, and rice. My husband ordered a ground beef burrito and a beer. He got shredded meat of some sort and no beer. We barely got an apology. At least they gave us 10% off the bill but neither of us got what we wanted or ordered. We’ve been to this location before, but will probably never go back. There are other places in Mancos very worthy.
