I've had a lot of mexican food, and this place was average at best - maybe even below average. Food was bland, lukewarm to cold when it arrived after a very long wait. Waitress was pleasant enough, but the food was not good. Wish we...had gone on to Cortez.....More

Looking for a place in Manco's that had outdoor seating and was open after 2pm and before 4pm where we could eat lunch. Found Chavolo's we were seated. The waitress came out fairly quick and gave menus, asked for drink order. I ordered a house...margarita and my husband a Negro Modelo. She was back nearly 10 minutes later with a Modelo Especial and my margarita. My husband likes both so didn't say a thing. I took a sip of my drink and was quite disappointed. It was much like water and a splash of margarita flavor. Oh well, lets see about the food. When she brought drinks she also brought chips and salsa. Salsa was very bland, but the chips were decent. She came back to take our order and then was gone again, for quite some time. She returned with our lunch and we were confused by the one container of tortillas since my husband ordered corn and I, flour. Well....all were corn. Alrighty, I like corn too - so with the wait and the hunger, we just decided to eat. I had the chili verde and it was pretty flavorless. I asked if there were any salsa choices and she said they had a salsa bar inside and to help myself. Once I added their "hottest" salsa, the green chili had some flavor. Not necessarily green chili flavor - but that was okay I suppose. My husband had the carne asada and eggs. He really enjoyed his lunch. Overall it was a nice place to sit in the shade with a breeze. The food was not bad - just bland. The service was lacking as we did get the right main food but slight confusion on the details and drinks. Not sure if a 2nd visit would help, but would be willing if in the same situation between 2-4pm again. Would get different food for sure though.More

Never had this happen before. We stopped for dinner on our way back from Four Corners. After seating ourselves, it took the usual amount of time for our waitress to take our drink order. After 10 minutes or so we placed our order. Our chips...and salsa soon arrived and we looked forward to a good meal. One hour later - no exaggeration - someone other than our waitress came to our table and apologized - they were out of chile poblanos and tamales - the two things we ordered. Wow. We decided to leave, very disappointed. Our waitress seemed that she was trying her best, so no fault there. We’re guessing there was a staffing issue. We just wished we had been told that up front. We would much rather have honesty about a situation than to spend an hour before learning we would not be getting our food.More

Over the last year I've eaten here about five times. Every single time it's been awful. The servers are rude and like a million other reviews on here no one takes drink orders, brings menus, and it takes forever to get genuinely awful food to...the table. I've brought people to the restaurant that couldn't believe how bad it was on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, it's the only Mexican place for thirty minutes in any direction so you might end up going back for more punishment. Last time I ordered enchiladas with beans and rice. Came out with no beans, and the waitress says "oh we're out of beans". The enchiladas and rice were literally cold, but the enchiladas were so tough that you had to use a knife to cut them. I asked them to heat them up and it took twenty minutes to get them back. By then everyone else was done eating. If you look at some other recent reviews you'll see the bad service and cold/dry food mentioned. I seriously wonder if they're properly handling food if it's not even being heated up, and clearly has been sitting around long enough to get dry and hard to chew/cut. This is just a typical example of how it goes. If there was any competition in town this place would go out of business in a week. AVOID.More

I wanted to give them more stars because the Carnitas is very good, but twice now, once last year and again this year, we have found plastic in our food. Last year was a piece of hard, white plastic. The waiter apologized but didn't take...it off the bill. I didn't finish it but still he was incensed that I insisted he remove it from our bill. This year, we enjoyed our meal and took home what we didn't eat. Back home, when we began to prepare the leftovers, I found two pieces of cellophane in the mix. I wonder if we had eaten any more of the cellophane at the restaurant? Never Again. Chavolo's is OFF LIMITS. When we want good Mexican food, we'll make the drive to Delores.More

We ate there twice in a two or three week period while traveling in the area. Service was very quick and friendly. Both my wife and I really enjoyed I had Fajitas the first trip and Enchiladas Suizas the second and both times thoroughly enjoyed...the meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. There was a mix of locals and tourists, good music on the sound system and a World Cup game on the TV this last time. Our server, both times, I think was the owner or manager. He was friendly and personable. We enjoyed our chat with him. The place was very clean, friendly atmosphere and the food was good. What more can you ask for!More

I had dinner here on my recent stay in Mancos. The food was excellent (my local Mexican place should take notes) and the service was excellent as well. They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from, the prices were good and you can...sit inside or outside on their patio. I would highly recommend Chavalos for a great meal with great serviceMore

It is ok for Manco I guess but the food is not great. Everything was covered with some sauce that made it all soggy. Service was ok but the place is so noisy it is hard to think. Not again

We stopped through on our way to a cabin rental nearby and will definitely stop again. Wife had the Chile Rellano lunch and I had the Burrito lunch. Plates came out hot, and the portions were more than we could eat. Great prices but the...flavor was definitely in the food. Top shelf Margaritas on the rocks yummy. Staff very friendly.More
