We ordered Chinese food. It was very average, nothing fusion about it. We didn’t order sushi. Nothing special and over priced. I will not return, nor would I recommend this place to anyone. The environment was an old, run down Applebee’s.

The best deal here is sushi, for sure. I don't know where else you can get rolls for $3-$5 each. We had a platter with a variety of vegetarian rolls. All were good and fresh. We also tried a curry, which was good, but not...very memorable, since I can't remember what it was now! They do a smattering of all types fo asian food. The hot sake was good and also good value. The prices all around are very reasonable. We used a coupon we got in the mailer coupon value packs which go out to everyone in the area. Which made it an even better deal. Good location, next to Old Santa Fe Grill. Cons- it is very (too) dim in the restaurant. We both had trouble reading the menus. I never have trouble with that. It just felt kind of dark and depressing. The service was a little odd. Not bad, but a bit slow, and maybe out waiter was just awkward.More

I can’t say enough about the delicious dinner we had at Bao! Fresh, beautifully prepared, original food served in a friendly, comfortable environment. Went with my daughter while visiting the University of Colorado Medical School. It’s a little drive from there, but well worth it....The restaurant is situated in a tastefully updated and decorated former Applebee’s, so it’s spacious and not too loud for conversation. Given that the menu is fairly extensive and we were tired, we just asked our waitress to bring us what she thought was best. We started with a steaming pot of jasmine tea and a portion of steamed dumplings followed by a plate of yummy tender, lightly breaded, fried calamari served on a bed of diced peppers and onions. This dish was outstanding and the best calamari I have ever had. (We have ordered calamari in numerous places around the world as it is one of my husband’s favorite dishes, so I have a good basis of comparison, and this dish is awesome!) We were then treated to sushi topped with smoked eel and creamy, perfectly ripened and sliced avocado. Again, perfection! Our final dish was ginger prawns served on a bed of wilted bok choy over rice. Subtle, delicious flavors made this traditional dish a stand out as well. I highly recommend this restaurant for food, service, and ambiance and will make a point of coming here again the next time I am in the area.More

I've read the other reviews and felt they might be a bit harsh. This is not a 5 star luxury restaurant, but rather a family run business, trying to please an upscale Louisville clientele. The modest prices reflect that they are offering good basic Asian...dishes. The menu has pretty extensive variety, with a lot of options to choose from. (Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Sushi - Generally the food is served promptly, arrives hot and portions are satisfying. If your Sushi is involved, has tempura or requires cooking, it may take a little while and sometimes will arrive after the entrees. Know this going in and you'll be fine. The curry dishes are all great! Ditto for the basics. Have not gotten into their specialty stuff, so can't honestly review it. The sushi / sashimi basics are fine, and reasonably priced to have as an add on or appetizer - We love the Volcano roll and the Yumi Yumi rolls - Great value, delicious and fun to share! Lunch prices are cheap! and wonderful, and taking folks to lunch there will not break your budget. Can't say I have never had less than perfect service, but it has never been horrible and generally is very good and always friendly... Have been going here for about 2 years, and will keep returningMore

Service was off from start to finish. Restaurant was not busy and plenty of waiters, so no real excuses. Ran out of Miso soup after taking our order, not particularly apologetic, still, the hot and sour soup was fine. Starters came without too much of...a fuss, except we had to ask for utensils/napkins. A bowl of rice was dumped on our table with a "we've run out of brown rice", and little apology. A good 5 minutes later our mains started turning up, which were handed to us while our starter plates were still on the table, so we had to clear those ourselves. Seemed dumbstruck when asked for a dipping bowl for soy sauce. The fried rice we'd ordered didn't turn up until we asked, and then it was at least another 5 minutes later, by which time we were well into eating our main course. Fortune cookies were all but thrown at the table (one missed and hit the floor) while 2 of our group were still eating their mains, and the bill similarly arrived before mains were finished. As for the food - well, the spring rolls were odd, but edible. The teriyaki chicken was barely warm, and seemed more like chicken in soy sauce, with little effort made. The fried rice was anything but - quite soggy. Other meals were OK, but nothing spectacular. Will not be returning.More

I ordered for delivery, Hot and sour vegetable soup, egg rolls, crab Rangoon and general tso chicken. The soup was peppery not hot or sour and watery, the egg rolls and crab Rangoon were average, the sweet and sour sauce is more a sweet sauce...of pineapple only. The tso chicken was in a pineapple sauce compared to traditional tso sauce and it had baby corn, celery, cauliflower and snow peas in it. For me this was ok not particularly to my liking, I probably wont return to this place, I have found that this seems regular when a restaurant does sushi or sashimi in my opinion.More

I have dined at the Bao Asian Fusion Restaurant on at least four previous occasions and a relative and I decided to dine out and went back this past week. I think every meal I have ever had, including the most recent, has been good...to very good and the prices and quality of food are very good as well especially given what seems to be an era of soaring restaurant prices. On all previous occasions, we have split a bottle of wine and there is a reasonable wine list so we decided to order a bottle of Australian shiraz which is a good mid-range red. We were informed "We only serve wine by the glass now, people drink too much if we serve it in bottles". Both of us being more than 50 years past the age of majority, this was an absolute first and left us, shall we say, perplexed? There seemed to be no problem ordering a second glass which we did not but in my experience, one 750 ml. bottle of wine equals four glasses. Is it a manifestation of our age or the calibre of the Bao's clientele? I don't know but I do have to wonder and will charge this most recent outing to one of the strangest ever. The food was very good - four star, not five but their "New Policy" does leave me rather incredulous.More
