Service and menu selection were quite good. Very busy even on a weekday night so arrive early. Portion sizes were a bit small from the reaction from most of our party and prices were high for the caliber of food. Go to Zumas in the village instead.

It’s always an amazing place, just the snappiness of the host gets to me. I’ve been here maybe 10x…. Always a great experience. Service is slower… the bread is to die for, beers and wines are plenty. You must make reservations!… don’t delay. If you get lucky and a bar booth…. Only 4 of them…. That’s a score! The dining room Hasn’t changed in 50 years. It’s a must stop in keystone!….

We decided to eat here from reviews on trip advisor. Wait to be seated was not too bad, waited in separate bar area with music. Staff friendly, food good and on the expensive side for us. We didn’t expect the pricing when we walked in - not a fancy restaurant.

I don't usually do reviews but unfortunately I was incredibly disappointed with our experience here. The restaurant came highly recommended but I think that was from a previous owner because it has definitely changed! I came with my family to celebrate my 55th birthday. I was so excited and made reservations as soon as we arrived in town. When we arrived we did not have a wait, they had our table ready, I was impressed and thought maybe it was as going to be as good as I was told. Once we were seated the waiter came and immediately began pushing alcoholic beverages which I declined 3 times due to a person in the party trying to recover from alcoholism. It was an incredibly uncomfortable situation and I do not feel like alcohol should be pressured. Ask once and when declined, don't ask again. The majority of the table ordered steak and a couple added the lobster and crab legs. I have had bad experiences with lobster and was reassured that the chef knew how to cook it, that I would not be disappointed. The lobster was very tough, chewy and overcooked. The crab was very small portion for the cost and had a strange taste to it. Not one of us were happy with the steak. There was no flavor at all and they were overcooked. I understand why they recommend the garlic butter for the top, although it did not help. The first complaint was ignored then on the second complaint the steak was removed by the waiter from the table. The waiter said he was going to talk to the chef. Thought they were going to recook the steak or something but nothing else was said until the bill was brought with no adjustments and no corrections to the food. Once the complaint was brought back up the waiter said too much of the steak was eaten....only 2-3 bites were gone. From other reviews I have read it seems like this is the pattern for this restaurant. Customer service should be a priority, but unfortunately, the owner/ managers arrogance is more important. Their defensive and aggressive responses to any negative review says it all about how they handle complaints.

Traveling and eating on vacation this summer ended with my favorite restaurant in Colorado! “The Snake”, as it’s affectionately known by locals, continues to serve delicious food in a woodsy-mountain environment. It is popular, so you should make reservations in the fine dining side. Not necessary in the pub part which serves good pub grub. Authentic Colorado at its best!

I was passing through on business. The outside of the building had a nice western look, which is a plus for a traditional Northwestern Steakhouse. Inside was nice as well, but it was a bit of a letdown. It kind of gave a sawdust on the floor tavern feeling. The place was very busy. And all the staff was hussling about in a professional manner. The menu was nice. It didnt overwhelm me with a long list of food to order. It did, cover a multitude of tastes. The waitress showed up promptly and took my drink order and left me a menu. By the time she returned, I had time to scann the menu. As instructed by the menu, i asked about the special. It was porterhouse steak. Which is a favorite of mine, so i ordered it, medium, baked potato, and mixed veggies. I also orders calamari. The calamari came and it was fried in grease that should of been changed. You could taste that it was burnt. When my meal arrived, my steak looked more like a 12 ounce T-bone, not a porterhouse. The baked potato was wrinkled, which indicated pre-cooked and maybe microwaved. I cut it open and put the butter in. It never melted. The baked was luke warm. As far as the mixed veggies, they were very…very cold. I will not go back again. The only reason i gave a rating above was because my waitress was exceptional!

Hello, We actually have never had calamari on the menu. We also have never had a porterhouse steak on the menu as well. We can’t really comment on items we don’t serve at our restaurant. Thank you.

We were really excited to have a sit down family dinner and we found this spot. After we left, my mom and I woke up in the middle of the night and got so violently ill, unlike anything we had ever experienced before in our lives. It hit my sister the next morning. We know it was this place because we ordered the bone marrow and it was the only meal the three of us shared. We had to go to the hospital in Denver the next morning because we were so dehydrated and sick, we could not even get on the plane back to NY. The manager was rude when we called to tell him and claimed that this was not possible. Shame on them.

Hello, Your mother stated to our manager that the party had become sick 5 minutes after leaving the restaurant “on your walk home.” Since the managers have been in multiple food safety classes we understand the process of food poisoning. Based on your mother’s story we attempted to communicate food poisoning from the bone marrow was not possible. We have been serving bone marrow for 6-8 months & have never had any issues nor did anyone that ate that batch of bone marrow in and around that time have issues. The manager did his best to explain food poisoning to your mother- the onset timing, etc. We understand that you assumed it was the bone marrow. However, based on the information given by your mother that was not possible. Again, we have never had any issues with our bone marrow before or since you were in the restaurant so it is very hard to connect that product to your experience especially based on your mothers account of symptoms, etc. Thank you.

This place was highly rated in the reviews I read, but... dinner was at best average. My husband's filet mignon was less than the best, and my pork chops were dry. It was expensive too, certainly not the food I would expect at that price. Staff tried really hard, but that didn't save the meal.

While on a hiking excursion to the Fairplay area, our son said he wanted steak. He was driving, so we let him take us to Keystone, where we found one of the best steakhouses I've ever been to. Being of a certain age, I liked the quiet, rustic dining room with white tablecloths and soft music in the background (I just wish it had been classic, and not "smooth," jazz). Our waiter was a perfect gentleman, and the dinner began with a warm, soft loaf of honeyed bread. For an appetizer, we ordered the escargot. It was the best I've ever had, served in mushroom caps, and my mother was a wonderful chef who made it often. We also had the baked brie, which, given the abundance of steak and sides we were to be served, was overkill. Delicious overkill. The waiter also offered to grind pepper for our salads. How long has it been since you've seen that? The steaks were likewise delicious and perfectly prepared, offered with generous sides. Before we were halfway finished, we were semi-comatose from gorging. Thank goodness our son was able to chauffeur us over the pass to our Fairplay cabin.

We were referred by a local who said it was the best steak dinner in town. We order a steak and the spaghetti and meatballs. The steak was priced on the higher end so we assumed it would be delicious . It was not, it was tough with no flavor. The spaghetti and meatballs tasted like something you would get at a pizza takeout restaurant. Needless to say, very disappointed. So far the two best places we have experienced on our vacation is the Tavern West for dinner and The Haywood for breakfast.

Had an awesome experience for dinner last night. Krissy ordered the shrimp. Veracruz and I ordered the Friday night special of Salmon Oscar. Both tasted delicious, and we will rate both of them a 10/10. My only gripe would be that there was very little “Oscar” (Crab meat). Our waiter, Todd, was very knowledgeable and helpful with our selections.

This charming woodsy restaurant has been here many years - a bit of an icon in the area. We always eat at least one meal in the dining room and do more than one HH in pub when we visit. Even with covid and all the difficulties The Snake has consistently served great food in a warm friendly way. It is very popular so be sure to make reservations in advance. Kick back, be flexible in these trying times and enjoy not being in rush hour trafffc on a highway!

A long-time favorite serving excellent food with excellent service at prices slightly less than one would expect in a ski town ($30-45 for entree). The trout is highly recommended, stuffed if you are hungry. Plenty of parking, located at the entrance \to the Keystone resort..

Food is okay. The staff is incompetent one bartender doesn’t know how to check ids and one doesn’t know when the kitchen closes. Over all the staff is terrible, drinks over price and owner doesn’t care about their customers.

Hello Calvin, The state of Colorado encourages restaurants to accept phone ids. It is not a requirement or law that we accept them. In order to protect our liquor license etc we can only accept physical ids until we are assured by the county the digital id process is safe. Customers have been incredibly understanding & we appreciate that- as restaurants navigate this new landscape. Combativeness is something most restaurants here have a zero tolerance policy towards. The owner tried to explain that creating conflict in our dining room was not the appropriate place & we ended up hearing the created conflict upset several customers. It was confusing for the staff since you actually had your physical id on you & we were happy to accept your id. I will talk to our bartenders about how to continue to help customers understand this digital id process. We also appreciate your aunt apologizing for the incident and recognizing what was happening. Our kitchen typically closes at 9pm. We got your food order in at 9:30 to accommodate you and your family. Sometimes if we are able we accommodate guests so our kitchen hours can fluctuate. I hope this helps you understand our process better & Happy Holidays!

Very accommodating to us as we ran half an hour late for our reservation. Dining room spacing was excellent, but entrance was small and crowded with people picking up to go orders. Originally reserved because of their diverse menu and was initially disappointed that they switched to a traditional Christmas menu only, but they did well and we left happy.
