The Durango Diner is locally owned and operated (always a plus in our book), and has been in it's current location on Durango's Main Avenue for approximately 46 years. The interior is deep and narrow and has the feel of an old railroad car diner. The counter is very long and there are a few seats and tables ahead and behind of it. The Diner is well staffed, including the owner at the grill, and serves classic diner breakfast and lunch food until the early afternoon. The service is fast and friendly. One of us went here for a weekday lunch in early April and ordered their classic burger, hand-cut fries and an ice cold Coke (see attached photo). Their burgers are prepared on a cured griddle, and are juicy and tasty. Their fries are well cooked and plentiful. Total bill, pre-tip including tax, was $14.18. 👍🏻 The Diner also sells branded t-shirts, sweatshirts and swag including stickers and coffee mugs. On our current travels throughout the West, we're always on the lookout for unique local favorites and this Diner is just what we're looking for. If you are of the same mind, this Diner is worth a try.

Short wait for mid morning breakfast. Sat at the bar and watched all the hard working employees. We split a 3 egg omelette with green chili sauce. Had a side of biscuits and gravy. Hit the spot AND had to buy a couple of jars of the green chili sauce to take home … yes, it always that good!

The Durango Diner is a 5-star breakfast & lunch establishment. While my wife enjoyed a green Chile cheeseburger
I opted for "the Cure". It's an amazing plate of hash Brown's covered with scrambled eggs, sausage, green Chile sauce, cheese, and a side of sourdough toast.
It was amazing!
The coffee served here is bold and velvety, not acidic. Very good stuff.
Excellent, excellent breakfast & burgers.
Enjoy.

This is about my last two visits. I've been dining here for years. The food is amazing, and the place is a wonderful greasy spoon. The servers, however, need to chill out. 1st visit, as previously mentioned, went like this. I had just ordered my food and left a napkin over my water before going to the restroom. The universal sign that I'm coming back. When I came back, a waitress had removed it and sat two people where I was then moved me 12 seats down in front of the hot flat tops. I am a professional cook, and I did not want to watch people making food on my day off. Disappointing, yes. Is it worth a review? Not yet. Now, with another attempt at the diner, I sat again, ordered food, and was asked again to move seats. This time, I don't know why. An elderly gentleman, also dining solo, took my spot and ordered directly from the cooks. 10 minutes after I ordered, my food wasn't started yet, and he received his meal in just 5 minutes. By the time I got my order, he had finished, paid, and left. To make things worse, in the middle of all that, the server brings me a napkin and knife. No fork. I had to ask her for one 5 minutes after that. Anyway, the food is great. Servers need to calm tf down and focus on customer service a bit more than turning and burning tables.

It is always great to find a place where people are welcomed by employees that really step out of their way to make the experience a joy. I've been to a fair number of diners, but this one really stands out. Carly was our waitress and she really made the experience with her enthusiasm and understanding. Observing other staff there, I did not see anyone unhappy. I have limitations with my diet, and she took the time to understand them and made my visit there worth it. She even went next door to get something that they didn't have. The food was great! I had a green chili omelette and it was not at all skimpy with the amount of chilis used.

My wife and I got there just as they were about to close for lunch hours. The cook said “The grill is still open, come on in.” I ordered the fabulous Bonus Burger with hand cut French fries (our waitress Gabby’s recommendation). The fries were delicious and so was the burger with great tomato, lettuce, onions etc and best of all their home made green diced chilies. What a treat. My wife had a Turkey Club sandwich, also excellent. Our waitress, Gabby was fantastic. She was very friendly, kind, knew the menu well and really made us feel at home with her beautiful smile and attitude. Totally delightful. We will definitely come back next time we are in town. Local diners are the best!

This diner is located in downtown Durango and was recommended by the hotel where we were staying. Street parking in front is metered ($1/hour), but you don’t have to pay before 8 AM. The diner layout is long and narrow. With the COVID-19 restrictions, most of the seating is at the counter. We ordered our breakfast and then we watched the cooks prepare it for us. The hash browns are grated fresh! I ordered “The Cure” ($11) which was 2 eggs any style, hash browns, choice of meat (I selected ham) and cheese all covered in green chilies. It was tasty and so filling that I couldn’t finish it. The ham was especially good. My wife ordered 2 eggs any style that came with toast and a massive pile of hash browns. For $2 more, she added a hamburger patty (she could have selected bacon, sausage or ham), so her meal totaled $9. Coffee or tea both cost $2.50 each. Our waitress was attentive and kept my coffee cup filled.

Saw all the great reviews so, we tried it. Hash browns half cooked, asked for scrambled eggs in my sandwich, came fried. Bacon and sourdough good but, not $15 good. Gave my friends burrito to someone else, realized their mistake, took it from guy and handed it to us. It’s a nope for me.

I have read the other reviews of people raving about this place but I can't do the same. I had eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries. The sausage was not good and the home fries were very dry. My wife did like her French toast. All the menu items were overpriced compared to similar restaurants.

We loved this diner! Great service and it was fun sitting at the bar watching the cooks. It’s not fancy so don’t expect eggs Benedict. Servings are large, yummy green sauce on the huevos rancheros and coffee was good. We will come back to this place when we return!

We ate breakfast twice during our recent visit to Durango. It's great to find a good old fashioned diner. They have a wide selection of items for breakfast and you better have a good appetite because the portions are huge. It was fun to sit there and watch the hashbrowns being made from scratch which are a meal in themselves. I had a cinnamon roll one morning which was fresh and plenty for me. Highly recommend.

Discovered this place based on a recommendation from a prior resident of Durango. I’m so thankful we went there, we ended up eating breakfast there four out of five days, we even left later so that we could do breakfast on our last day . The sausage, pancakes , cinnamon rolls and bacon are amazing the staff is very friendly I highly recommend this place.

The Durango Diner is the best! The Super Cure definitely is an amazing meal whether you want it for breakfast or lunch after skiing. Their food is all freshly cooked right there in front of you and has been for many years. I've been coming there to eat since 2015 and I can't say enough about how fresh and good the food is. The staff are friendly as well.

When my husband and I travel we always ask the locals for the best restaurants in town. Durango Diner was at the top of the list for most and after eating there we understood why. The food was amazing!! The Cure was my absolute favorite! I have never had green chill before but now I crave it. We returned three more times during our 8 day trip and it was just as delicious as the first. I cannot wait to go back!
