Eat, Drink & Have Fun With Us at the Highway 3 Roadhouse & Oyster Bar. The Highway 3 Roadhouse & Oyster Bar is known as a local's hangout after work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday-the only days we're open. When you come and visit, you are sure to experience some of the best Cajun, Creole and Southern food with recipes straight from Louisiana. Buried back off Highway 3 in Durango, you have to know that you are looking for us to find us. While we are considered a local's secret, we do let outsiders in. Why would anyone go to such trouble to get here? Maybe the answer is in some of our reviews. Here's what a reviewer from Arizona posted on TripAdvisor: "Worth the wait! The food is fresh and wonderful .. service is great, and atmosphere is friendly. Only open 3 days a week, but well worth a dinner here! Oysters are fresh ( try the fried ones ! ), and blackened catfish is awesome. Just love an evening out here and the menu is always changing, so the specials are fresh and fun .. LOVE this place!" From the foregoing, you know that we have a Cajun/Creole/Southern based menu with oysters and catfish. We bet you will also like our etouffee, soft shell crabs, crawfish and awesome mac & cheese. Be sure to save room at the end for one of our sweets such as the bread puddin' with whisky sauce. Take a look at our menu to see everything but the specials. First know that this restaurant is now open from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and only in Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Second, it is difficult to find. It is located near HY 3 a few miles South of Durango BEHIND an older strip commercial area to the East. Third, it takes reservations only for parties of six or more. It is popular, so expect a wait even if you arrive at 4:00 PM.
The food is primarily Louisiana seafood. It is known for oysters. But there are several non-seafood items on the menu. I had bar b que beef poor boy with fries for $12.95 which is a bargain in Durango, and it was excellent. The wife had Cajun shrimp with fried okra as an an appitiser. All great. Service also was prompt and friendly. The place was very clean and air conditioned (important as we were having a 95 degree heat wave).
I rate this restaurant rather highly, even though it is open only limited hours and days. There is a severe shortage of service labor here in Durango that has caused these limitations, and was not reflected in the food quality or service once seated.

The Friday Catfish special was wonderful (hot, fresh & tasty). The hushpuppies were to die for (crispy & flavorful) & the lamb sliders were excellent! I think I would have preferred the chocolate pecan pie a la mode served warm however. The restaurant is quirky and a little patchwork but exceptionally clean. The staff was thoughtful, knowledgeable & timely. I would highly recommend this hidden gem!

We visited the Roadhouse Friday night. It was our 2nd visit since we found out about it. I am a Louisiana native living in P.S., Colo. and we all found the food to be excellent and our wait staff was friendly and helpful, even though it was a busy night. The fried oysters last night were delicious. I'm so glad to have found a restaurant where I can get authentic La. cuisine. Thank you all. We will be back over to Durango as often as we can.

I ordered the prime rib special and was served a breaded pork chop. When I told the server she said that the chef told her that that was the correct special. When I showed the owner he said they must have run out of some of the specials. No do I want something else or help with the bill. Nothing. No help and rude. We will not be returning. Complete ripoff.

I ordered the crab cakes and was very disappointed. I wish I’d sent them back but my friend asked me not to. They were boring and bland and for the price ($25!) I expected at least a few succulent morsels of crab. There were none. And the plate they came on was pathetic. No effort made with presentation. My suggestion: use a little bit larger plate, throw in a few lettuce leaves, act like you care at all, and if you want to stay chintzy, at least throw in a few parsley springs, sliced tomatoes, or something, anything. I would never order these again and may not ever go back. I’m a local and like to support our businesses but this is really asking too much. Do NOT recommend.

This place is fun and has great seafood. Everyone here was having lots of fun. Service was as great as the food, too. Warning: Location is a challenge. GPS will get you there but you can't readily see it--have to drive to the back of the small strip where it is located; to the rear. But, it is worth the effort for sure. Highly recommend !!

We had a fabulous meal and time! The service, atmosphere, and food were all amazing. My husband had the crawfish etouffee and I had the shrimp and grits, both were fantastic! When we go back to Durango we will definitely be eating here again!

The food was delicious. I had the halibut. Hubby had the shrimp etouffee. Service was very good. Everyone was very friendly. I recommend diners arrive early. We're coming back, for sure. This will be a destination for out-of-town guests.

Pretty shure they need to address a mold issue!!! I can smell it bad and have Ben around it alot in remodeling homes strong when walking in just to be safe I would have it adressed and taken care of befor it spreads more I left within 10 minutes.

I am a black woman, and a Sudanese immigrant who never thought she would have to time travel back to the 1960s, when the US was segregated. On January 21, 2022, in this restaurant, the owner (in front of silent whites) said to me when I walked in, "you can't just walk in here, who are you with?" On my way out, Chuck blew me a kiss, and this indicates to me that he is both misogynistic and a racist! This never happened to all the other whites who walked in the same entrance, with the same goal, waiting for a table. When I called and seeked for an apology, the manager didn't listen and was making excuses for Chuck, the owner. She said, and I quote," We hope you can come by again and clear this up in person. I know Chuck wouldn’t mean to intentionally act that way."
Chuck, I hope you enjoy reading, "My Beautiful Colors, a Refugee Story." I gave it to you in hope that you'd lxearn this country we both share and love deserves better service, that which does not turn people away because of the color of their skin.
YOU are the hateful version of the color red. Shame on you, appropriating black creation and allowing segregation in 2022. If racism were on the list of reasons why I can't go back, I'd pick it. I hope many will read this and avoid white silence.

For the two hours you were with us, you were treated with the utmost respect and dignity—the same as we would treat any customer. You even left us a very nice note. Then sometime later you decided that you had been discriminated against. The best we can guess was because you had to wait for your table until your party (who were 20 minutes late for their reservation) arrived. That has been the rule since the Roadhouse opened—it doesn’t matter whether you are black, white, red or yellow, we seat you when your entire party is present. We have no plans to change that rule. We have drink service for patrons waiting for a table or the rest of their party so to be hospitable. Here is what you wrote:
“Chuck, thank you for your patients [sic], and keeping my friends’ and I table. The food you serve must be very good because your place is busy. May God continue to bless you and the United States of America! ~Nyibol”
We wish you the best in our, and now your country.

Norton’s has catered multiple parties for me - including 3 parties this summer - every event has been a success. I have used them for large cocktail parties, outdoor dinners, and intimate dinner parties. Norton’s food is fabulous, and Chuck is willing to customize beyond their menu. Tanette and the events team are always on-time for set-up, and their arrangements are beautifully presently. I would highly recommend contacting Chuck and Tanette for any catering needs in and around Durango.

As Southerners, we are always excited to find good cajun food - especially oysters on the half shell which aren't outrageously expensive! This was excellent food, good service and the value of the catfish special and happy hour oysters made our trip!

This place is really good! A taste of Louisiana in Colorado! Shrimp Étouffée and Blackened and Fried Mississippi Catfish. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, and we felt at home right away. The menu is filled with southern and New Orleans style dishes including po boys, gumbo, and oysters. There are also a variety of sliders and fish tacos. I could have used a bit more spice in the etouffe, but it was still good. Nice home cut fries with a dash of cornmeal on them. We will be back for sure.

We were invited by friends to join them at Highway 3 Roadhouse, one of their favorite spots. This was our first time there despite being longtime Durango residents. It's tucked away behind some other buildings on Rte 3 slightly outside of downtown Durango and, we hear, only open Wed-Fri from 4 to 8. What a great discovery! Beautiful comfortable space, with tables inside and out. Excellent food, New Orleans style. Friendly service. We'll be planning many more visits in the near future. Thank you!
