We went to Elous to celebrate a birthday. The whole evening was exquisite from the drinks, the food, the service and the ambience. We were led to our table which was was spread in just enough birthday confetti across the center. Taylor, our server, was...phenomenal. She recommended the double bone pork chops for me. They were cooked perfectly. My dining partner enjoyed her birthday dinner of vegetarian coconut curry as well. Three different flavors of sorbet were complimentary for a birthday dessert. Eric, the manager, and his staff provide a lovely dining experience.More

Based on this rating, we were looking forward to a lovely dining experience. It was a big disappointment. Wine list is bizarre. Our beet salad too salty. Cioppino was scimpy On the menu, white fish was supposed to be included. None on ours! No lobster,...no calamari. $54. So disappointing.More

We had a really great meal. Service was great and the waiters descriptions made us want everything! The most gluten free options we’ve ever seen. Crème brûlée was a great end to our meal.

One of the nicer restaurants in historic Durango in my view. Nice ambiance, great service, and reasonable prices (Cocktails and wine were relatively cheap - Buffalo Trace $10). They have quite an eclectic menu. We began with their special mushroom soup and a Hamachi Volcano...Roll. Both delicious. I found the entree section of the menu to be a bit limiting, but we were able to find two choices to our liking and both were great (seared scallops and the Osso Bucco). Both entrees were very big portions, and we could not finish. However, that didn't mean we could not try dessert. The dessert we chose was the night's special. Some aspects of it were good, but I did not care for the toasted marshmallow swirl topping - but this is just my taste, as it was prepared fine and gave the dessert an artistic flare.More

Definitely a 5 star dining experience, the service and atmosphere were excellent and the entrees we tried were excellent. Would recommend to anyone desiring a dinner that is tasteful and presented well. The suishi appetizers were great also.

Eolus is probably the best restaurant in Durango, not just the food or wine list but the atmosphere down to the crisp white table linens. Service was excellent. We loved the rooftop space, though be warned it can get hot up here even in the...evening because of the elevation. The appetizers/starters were a little weak. A shrimp cocktail would have been nice. The scallops were generous and could have been a light main course. The salmon main course without the Asian sauce was excellent. The wine list was superb and had a few Colorado selections, including the lightly oaked 2015 Sutcliffe Vineyards chardonnay from nearby. All things considered, we would return. Highly recommended. $270 for two bottles of wine, two appetizers, two main courses, and one dessert.More

Thank you Eolus for a wonderful relaxed night out with absolutely superb food, very good service and a great ambiance. Our server, Larkin, was very professional and friendly. The food was excellent, definitely a level above. So good to find a restaurant that still serves...sorbet, and it’s made in-house, absolutely delicious!More

The presentation was fabulous, but taste way too salty for a quality restaurant of this high caliber. Alas, it was quite a disappointment! My wife ordered the Grilled Hangar Steak. Not only was it burned on the outside, but it was way too salty…. both...the steak and the overly salty spinach. When she reordered the scallops, while delicious, the chips underneath were burned as well. As for the sweet potato fries, they were burned and salty too! I felt a complaint about them was going too overboard, so I decided not to. But the desserts were truly delicious and extremely well presented. Our waiter was a marginal listener as he kept saying “I understand”or “I get it “even to the point of interrupting the me, the patron. And to make matters worse, he had a waitress in training.. his shadow! I just wanted to be heard. Did she really learn how to handle a patron not satisfied? Hmmm. I wonder if he told the chef what I ultimately told him. “Let the customer put his own salt on! Some of us can take no salt in our diets!” In fact, if it were my restaurant I would have the chef come out and greet us and make amends. All in all a very marginal experience. Hence 3 stars!More

$180 for two of us and I even skipped the entree. We had reservations and were looking forward to our birthday dinner. All of the booths were empty and I asked the hostess if we could sit in a booth. She stated tersely that we...had to request it online, yet the website doesn’t mention this. The booths remained empty throughout our dinner. We took our assigned seats across from the toilet. The waiter rattled off menu items rapidly in a quiet voice that was difficult to understand. I ordered the happy hour wine which was bitter and tasted like it came from a box. My husband had a very nice margarita. I ordered calamari and a salad. The calamari and shrimp plate was delicious and a real treat. The salad was $17 and could have easily been made at home for $3. My husband ordered the mushroom soup and prime rib. The small amount (8 oz) of soup looked like purée baby food. We later found out that it was $14–worst ripoff of the evening. My husband’s prime rib was $56 and not very flavorful or tender—rather disappointing. We had delicious crème brûlée for dessert with coffee—$5 a cup and no offer of a refill. Overall, not exciting.More

This WILL NOT be a short review, but if you read it you will understand why. My wife and I have a house in Pagosa Springs. We have wanted to try Eolus for a long time. Last week some friends from Houston who also have...a house in Pagosa were telling us how wonderful this dining experience was. We had not been because we dont like driving from Durango to Pagosa in the dark and they are only open for dinner. We were catching the 6am flight out of Durango and knew weather would be rolling in a few days out. So we booked a hotel in Durango for the night so we would only be a few minutes from the airport rather than dealing with weather in what is normally over an hour drive to the airport from our house. The first thing I did after booking the hotel was book a reservation to Eolus. I had no idea how incredible the booking would be. Our flights were getting moved around because of weather. However we decided we were going to still stay in Durango for the night and catch the later flight leaving the next day. We arrived to Eolus with an ambiance that is fitting for fine dining. You instantly feel luxury, but in that mountain scape type of feel. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Our server Whitney did not just tell us what the feature dishes were for the night. Rather she described them like telling a story of both dishes as if I was listening to audio book or sitting in library as someone was reading a book to everyone. WOW!!! My wife with zero hesitation knew she was getting the Wahoo Fish and I would be getting the bean soup before my meal. WOW!!! My wife ordered a glass of Cabernet, but not me. This is going so well so far that I need to know whats going on behind the bar, because if the dineing side of the house is going this good already I need to know if there is a mixologist behind the bar so I ordered from the menu the Bert Sazerac. We ordered appetizers the Lobster Corn Dogs & Seared Sea Scallops + Prime Rib Bacon. A sharply dressed gentlemen had come to the table to fill our water. In the fashion as I always do I gave him a bit of a hard time in fun. His demeanor was so friendly. I had just looked at the menu prior to him coming to the table and quickly glanced to see the Chef's name Chris. I again poked a bit of fun and asked if he was Chris and he politely with a smile said Chris was in the kitchen doing his magic and that his name was James. I looked back down at the menu and notice next to the name Chef Chris was GM James. I looked back up at James with a smile because here is the GM of this elegant restaurant filling our water, never boasted about being the GM, but in a soft professional manner delivered service. WOW!!! I want to take a bit of a detour here to explain what this means to someone like me. First, I have owned a restaurant for 11 years back in Texas. Owning a restaurant means you develop some expectations of true service which are failed 90% of the time in my experience while dining at other restaurants. It does not mean they were bad service in those instances, nor does it mean they had poor food in those instances, but rather I smile to myself knowing less than 10% of places I will dine at will ever hit me with that WOW!!! The other reason is because I treat my wife and I to Michelin Rated restaurants all over the world frequently (our favorite is the Inn at Little Washington outside of DC we fly to go every year, I also may or may not have told James a funny story about a Gin and Tonic in Croatia). So with that said to get the pleasant surprise of James and Whitney I started to get VERY excited. Again I don't get excited because I know less than 10% of the time I will get above and beyond my unrealistic expectations of dining. James then went on to tell me about the Hanger Steak and Saffron Capellini. Again, like Whitney this was story time. I also fully recognize that some folks just want to come eat and socialize who may not appreciate what I am saying, but in my opinion they are just patrons of a restaurant, not fans of a restaurant and there is a difference between the two. Eolus was making sure I was to become a fan. I asked James if it was the last day on earth and he could only choose one thing on the menu what would he get. He did not just say "get the Capellini" but explained why (for those reading this review wanting to know why then it sounds like your going to have to make a reservation). My mind was made up and I was getting the Capellini. My Bert Sazerac arrived with the starters. This magic potion upon first sip meant the classy meter was still going up. I knew upon the first taste that the Smoke & Mirrors cocktail was next. We dove into the Lobster and Scallops where they did not disappoint. The texture, flavor and presentation were on point. Laura then got her Organic Salad and I the featured soup. Holy Bananas Bat Man the taste blew my mind. It did not suck that the Smoke & Mirrors helped create further fantasies for my tastebuds as well. Then it was time for the show. Laura received her featured fish Wahoo and I with the Capellini. The gentleman who brought the dishes asked if we wanted more bread and suggested it would be an incredible addition to soaking up the soup. Of course I took him up on it. At this point why not over indulge since everything was so incredible and the mixologist behind the bar was hitting the notes like Eric Clapton on an acoustical guitar solo so the Black Manhattan was next which also did not disappoint. Laura's featured Wahoo was just incredible, but this is about me not her. The Capellini came in a big white shaped dish. The presentation right on point I dove right in and was stopped in my tracks. This dish was not just prepared, but rather it was created. I took every advantage of every bite and yes the fluffy bread to soak up the wonderful soup just nicely. With taste buds popping and knowing I would be in New Orleans in less than 24 hours to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday with her and her friends (well, flying her and her friends to enjoy it where mom and ol dad here will retire early each night I am sure) this was one hell of a start to the 5 day culinary extravaganza we will get when we get there, but for this meal it will go down in the history books for me at Eolus. Since this incredible elegant experience not only went above and beyond my un realistic expectations as they tell you a story from the time you walk in till the time you leave it would do no justice if I did not tell a story as well to honor Eolus for the experience they provided. If you have dined at Eolus previously and felt the same then you are a FAN. If you have dined at Eolus before and did not feel like you got the same experience then I am here to tell you that you are just a patron of the restaurant because as I looked around everyone got the story, rather its just a matter if they were watching and listening. Semper Fidelis Eolus, Laura and I are FANS!!!More

Business causal is what we usually say. But Durango is a laid back western tourist town so whatever you are comfortable in will be great.
