Love this place which is more like a diner than cafe. At the busy counter or at a table, Oscar's offers great food and service with a local Durango crowd. Perfect place to start the day.

We weren’t sure about the place when we walked in. But we got a parking spot right in front of the door, and a table for 6 was empty and waiting for our party of 5. The waitress was friendly and helpful. I didn’t want hash browns, but the only substitution was sliced tomatoes. No grits. Not in the south anymore. We all ordered different items: chilli relleno with beans and eggs and toppings (nephew said the relleno was too doughy, but he didn’t have room to finish it), egg over hard with grits & sausage (little niece who ate all but hash browns), biscuit and gravy with eggs, bacon, sausage, & hash browns (husband ate everything but half the biscuit - loved getting full), Denver omelet with hash browns (Mama niece - hash browns were just okay, and little niece & I concurred), & my egg over easy came with English muffin and hash browns (loved it all except for hash browns). This place was busy! Someone was always waiting for a table - coming and going didn’t stop in the 30 minutes we were inside. The place had kitschy decor, and we loved the train traveling around the place. Food was good and service was, too. We’re glad we came for breakfast.

This place is amazing. It doesn’t look like much from the outside as it is in a dingy strip mall. The waitresses were very friendly. The giant cinnamon roll was dangerously good. My husband and I split one and still didn’t eat the entire thing. The avocado toast and egg plate was generous with an entire haas avocado. It was delicious. My husband had the sausage plate and was pleasantly surprised to like all of the varieties. I highly recommend this restaurant. You should go before 8am as their is an influx of people around then.

A step back in time. We sat at the counter like I used to do with my father 50 years ago. The food was really really good. I had green chili over potatoes with fried eggs. My husband had a southwest scramble. We ate every bite. I took a piece of coconut cream pie to go. Whoever baked it knew what they were doing. The toasted coconut on the bottom crust was just how it should be done. My only regret was the chef wouldn’t make a BLT sandwich to go until the lunch hour. The waitresses were all very busy yet very nice. The kitschy decor took me back. I loved the place.

They are doing a great job during the pandemic with cleaning and social distancing and even have outside dining. Hot chocolate was fantastic but my French toast and bacon were a little overcooked. The “Peak out” platter was phenomenal so we’d try something else for the other platter next time. Lots to look at and a popular local place.

This unexpected little gem was one of our favorite meals of our entire trip! Service was awesome. Great ambiance, with a toy train constantly circling the cafe, and delicious food! My daughter had a pastrami sandwich special, and I had their chile verde based on our server’s recommendation. Both were incredible! Best chile verde I have ever had. We also shared a slice of blueberry pie a la mode, which was really good and appeared to be homemade.

If you are looking for a serious home cooked breakfast for an active day planned, Oscar’s is the place! The menu offers every great breakfast you can think of. I had Southwestern scramble, my husband enjoyed the breakfast sausage special. The food tastes fresh & is made with care. The service is excellent!! You can tell the entire staff enjoys taking good care of you. Though the restaurant is small, it is very cozy and also offers an excellent selection of breakfast items to go! Look for the toy train running across the ceiling perimeter! Plenty of parking, especially for larger vehicles.

We have only been here the one time and we only had burgers for lunch. Maybe breakfast is better. The burgers and fries were not great, but not bad either. The Diet Coke tasted like it had a mix of Dr Pepper in it and our waitress had to have the other waitress check it. She said it was fine… it wasn’t. When you pay almost $4 for a small fountain drink, it needs to be right. So that was odd. You had to get your own refills while the two waitresses talked and the men’s restroom was pretty gross. I would pass on this place based on it being avg, but dirty and the service was poor.

Great French toast with hint of ginger. Delicious and different. “Verde” was spicy but not too hot. Green Chile salsa, with pork cubes, over hash Browns. I really love finding a delicious dish that I have never had. Recommended by the waitress. Their desserts were homemade pies and HUGE cinnamon rolls Covered with icing. Service was good! I love local, non chain cafes! Hotel staff (locals) recommended Oscar’s “If the wait isn’t too long.” During Covid times. Small place, with three outside tables. In a shopping strip center. Twenty minute wait.

We stopped by oscars for breakfast during our stay in Durango. It’s small and with the covid precautions we had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table. I had the chicken fried steak it was good but I found that the gravy on top was a little bland for my liking. We also had the Durango scramble with was very good and plentiful. If we return to Durango we would return to Oscars cafe.

If you're the kind of traveler who seeks burgers and fries that don't look and taste exactly like the millions sold in the major roadside chain food factories across America, then Oscar's Cafe may be just the kind of place you're looking for. Oscar's is locally owned and operated, and has been in Durango for over 40 years. The interior has the classic narrow diner feel with a well-worn Formica topped counter with red vinyl stools along one side and similarly topped tables and chairs along the other. The walls are covered with local diner kitsch. One of us had lunch here on an April Monday. The friendly owner was onsite during the meal and worked nonstop. His hardworking staff clearly work as a team, and are also friendly and efficient. I was sipping an ice cold Coke (a longtime personal favorite/weakness) less than a minute after sitting down. Oscar's menu includes many tasty breakfast items. Breakfast is served Monday through Saturday 7 to 11 AM, and all day on Sunday. The lunch menu is standard diner fare with a few twists and favorites including generous creamy milkshakes topped with whipped cream. The Cafe is kid friendly and has a kids menu. The bathrooms are small but clean. The regular local clientele is cheerful and boisterous. Lunch was a hamburger and fries (see attached photo). The tasty burger came with a toasted bun and generous portions of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onion. The heaping portion of lightly seasoned shoestring fries were also very tasty. Lunch pre-tip, including tax and a bottomless Coke, came to $15.28. Seems like lunch around $15.00 has become the standard these days. Bottom line, if you enjoy non-chain locally owned and operated diners, Oscar's is definitely worth a visit. 👍🏻

We enjoyed our late breakfast in this place. We ordered a delicious oatmeal with blueberries and a omelette with bacon and hash browns. Took a little while until the food turned up but it was delicious once again. What a good and flavorful food we had. Place is extremely busy, no free tables and waiting for a long time.

We dined for brunch and had excellent service but the menu is poor and the food was burned. My French toast was deep fried, was not stated on the menu, and was burned. It was replaced but the same dish arrived. No high chairs for my one year old. All around bummer.

Oscars gets busy because it's good, it gets crowded because it's small. Extensive breakfast menu, if you can't find anything you like on Oscar's breakfast menu, wait for lunch. The food we ordered was well prepared and presented, portions are large, no matter how delicious you may not be able to finish. Service is prompt and good. People at Oscar's are friendly. Worth stopping at Oscar'more than once.

Oscar's had a great menu. I had the farmer's breakfast. The medium eggs were a little overcooked but I've had worse. The gravy on the biscuit was odd and I still haven't decided if I liked it or not. The sausage links we're very good. The service was very good. We had a 15 minute wait and got the table outside. Even though it was just overlooking the parking lot it was nice to take in the glorious weather. Good experience, just a little bland.
