I have known of this location for years but have not tried it before. It is near the library on S.8th Street and an easy walk from the library. I decided to check it out oday and was pleased to discover that they offer a very nice lunch buffet. There are many options. The most important aspect is thatt all the dishes I tried were fresh and flavorful. The one exception was the egg foo young which was hard and dried out. There were many dishes I not try due to my allergies: shrimp in particular. There were noodle dishes, 2 soups, egg rolls, I have gone to another buffet further south on Star Ranch Road. The quality here is much better. In addition, they offer lunch and dinner specials. I arrived just after 11AM: there was plenty of seating and the food was fresh, hot and plentiful. I look forward to returning!

My wife and I were apartment hunting on the westside on town. We are still new to the area and asked about a local Chinese restaurant nearby. We were informed the Coal Mine Dragon. We were apparently the first to arrive for dinner. Our service was excellent and efficient. The food also excellent. Since coming to Colorado Springs we have only had a local Chinese fast-food establishment. The Coal Mine Dragon was like finding a diamond scattered in a field of granite. When we are on that side of town, we will definitely return!

The food is great. A noon time you will find a very busy place and may wait for a table. It is worth the wait. Best Chinese lunch on the Westside

I am so disappointed! This used to be one of my very favorite restaurants. It won numerous local awards, and each was well deserved. Under the new ownership I have eaten there 6 times. Each time was progressively worse. However, I have to say I am completely done. Today, everything we tried was dried out or overly slimy. When we would go back they never refilled anything. The most pathetic was that the sweet-and-sour sauce had been watered down to a purely water based red dyed, solution. I worked at Chinese restaurants for 8 years. The food that was served today would never have passed at any of those restaurants. On top of the poor quality of the food, when I asked for fresh rice because the other was dried out, the woman acted as though I was being completely ridiculous. Rice is cheap! The biscuits were hard, they never refilled the green beans, the teriyaki chicken skewers were like "saw dust" according to my husband, and the rice noodles were dried out and crunchy. They added sushi when they first opened but that was gone. Final straw was that when we paid the bill it had cost us about $13.00 a piece. Not a bad price for any meal, but today we couldn't even find $6.00 worth of edible food each. I miss the old owners. Save your money and your tummy, and try something else. I miss

Had an issue with my order this evening. Called the restaurant to let them know hoping our food could just be remade. The lady on the other end of the phone started screaming and yelling at us. So I go back to the restaurant with all our food so I can show them the issue... The lady running the front shoves the front door open and starts screaming and yelling at me. I had a $63.94 order. I didn't want a refund till I was treated very rudely by the face of the restaurant.

The food here is ok, not great. I know there are different recipes for hot and sour soup, I prefer those with vegetables, and this had none. The moo goo gai pan was essentially a chicken vegetable dish. Flavors were fairly bland as well.

Under normal circumstances I would give this restaurant a better rating but after today I will probably never eat there again. A friend and I stopped for lunch. I ordered Chicken Chow Mein and my friend ordered the buffet. When my food arrived I took three bites: a bite of rice; a bite of what I hope is chicken; and a bite of the vegetables. The Chow Mein was extremely watery and lacked the normal flavor and consistency it had on my many other visits. I decided to send it back and the server (Chang) told me I would not be charged for it, only for the buffet. When I received the check the two buffets were on it as well as the chicken chow mein. When I asked the server she said "Because I had eaten half of it (which I did not), I was going to be charged for it. When I brought this to the attention of the cashier who I'm assuming was the manager on duty he said, "You ordered it, there was nothing wrong with it, so you have to pay for it." The other man at the register said it wasn't watery it was "Gravy." My question is, how could the manger know it was good unless he tasted it after I returned it? The long and short of this, dispute any charges over what you return with your bank. You should not be charged for something when you return it. Growing quite angry over the lack of customer service skills this wimp of a man had, I told him I would send my complaint to the local news station. That is the next step of this process. Customers who have frequented a restaurant, and have never complained about the food, should not be treated this way when they do send something back. It's not right, it's down right dishonest. SHAME ON THEM!!!

Ordered takeout and was pleasantly surprised by the quantity, the quality and fast service. The sesame chicken is off the charts and my wife is still raving about her chicken with vegetables (so much chicken "all the way to the bottom of the container"!

Have ordered from here dozens of times and they never disappoint. They cook with healthy oils and NO MSG so that's a big plus!

We always get good quality and fast service for Chinese take out. The orders are good portions and they always have our favorites. The buffet is also good for a big appetite when you need that. We don't go any where else for Chinese food.

If you're on the south side of town head over to 8th street and grab a bite of Asian. Family owned for many years. There is a great selection of food and drinks. Been going for years and always have a good lunch.

It is your usual Chinese buffet restaurant but their food is just a little better than most. One of our favorite neighborhood lunch spots.

New to the area and have been trying out all of the Chinese restaurants in town to find our go-to place. Our family always orders the same dishes for take-out, General Tao's Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken. Stopped by this place last night, asked for General Tao's chicken with the sauce on the side; the man at the counter replied "I don't do sauce on the side". I said "what?"; he again stated, "I don't do sauce on the side". I told him that we always order it that way so that the chicken stays crispy, he just said "sorry". We've lived in several states and have eaten at many Chinese restaurants and have never been denied our "sauce on the side". Ridiculous! Poor customer service.

There are only a few decent Chinese restaurants in Colorado Springs. Coal Mine Dragon is very good compared to similiar restaurants in Colorado. Its a low key, informal, modest size and comfortable restaurant on Uintah about 1 mile west of I25. Kids are fine. The menu has a good range, and you will find most of the traditional combinations of chicken, pork, beef and seafood with various sauces. They also offer 1 plate combinations. You will not find modern type asian fusion plates. I have never seen anyone eating sushi at the Coal Mine. Peking Duck is probably best chosen at some other restaurant like the Imperial in Denver. You can expect good portions and well prepared dishes.

I am not a big fan of Chinese food in the springs. I guess I came from cities, where it is fantastic...but If I had to pick the best place, it would be Coal Mine Dragon. It is great and my kids love eating here!
