One of my sisters met the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants in nursing school, and this fellow student introduced her to her parents' restaurant. So my sister loves Ethiopian food. We just recently moved from the UK into this area, which is a long day's drive...from my sister. In searching around for various things, I discovered this restaurant and was delighted to have the opportunity to try Ethiopian food without having to make that drive. So my expectations were perhaps heightened. ;-) At any rate, my expectations were met. They are only doing takeaway/takeout right now, of course, but when I called in the lady on the phone was helpful and informative about the level of spice in each dish I ordered. My husband went to get the food and couldn't find the place at all. But when he called, she came out with the food so that he didn't have to keep looking. The food was really good! For those who have never had it before, Ethiopian food could be a bit of a shocker (at least the injera bread - teff has a flavour I've never tasted before, and I've eaten around a bit). And unless you specify that you don't want spicy, you'll get your sinuses cleared. But we did order one that wasn't described as spicy, and told the lady that it was for our children, and the spice level was quite satisfactory. And each dish came with a different side of lentils, all of them tasty. We don't eat out often just as a practical habit, but this will be one of our go-to places for when we do.More

I have to say on a Friday night in Colorado Springs I’d expect all restaurants at 7pm would take to go orders. I know the place closes at 8 but to answer the phone and say sorry it’s too late we have customers waiting for...service and then just hang up seems like bad business, not to mention rude!!!!! I get that your foreign so there’s somewhat a language barrier but that’s not very hospitable restaurant service. Super disappointed in this kind of behavior when so many restaurants are struggling to stay open!!!!More

The food was amazing and the owners were incredibly gracious. It was a great introduction to Ethiopian cuisine.

This was a fun place to eat. The staff is very friendly, the food is good and very different from what we normally eat. We had a great time experiencing a little bit of Ethiopia.

Very Friendly workers. We did not have to wait very long. The ICE CREAM was excellent. There were a lot of choices and it was very hard to choose what everyone wanted but the server was so polite and had a lot of patience with...our group.More

We ordered take out for the family and decided to try Uchenna because most of us are vegetarian. I am sorry to say, this food was terrible. The worst food I have ever ordered from a restaurant. And not cheap. Maybe it was just a...bad night, but unfortunately we just could not eat this food. We threw it out. And my family will eat just about anything, from anyplace in the world. So sad, we were really excited about Ethiopian food here in the Springs.More

Excellent Ethiopian restaurant run by a delightful lady and her son. Last night was our first visit there, but we will be back on future trips to Colorado Springs. The food was tasty, well seasoned and attractively presented. Good level of spice in some of...dishes and delicious desserts - not over sweet, but yummy. There is very interesting art and memorabilia from Ethiopia on the walls, so there is plenty to look at as you eat. Restaurant may close early before 8pm, if it is busy, so get there early, at least between 6 and 7 pm. Better still call ahead and reserve a table, as we did. Thank you for a wonderful evening!!More

Easily one of our favorite restaurants in the world. It’s hard to explain exactly, but this is the warmest and most welcoming restaurant we may have ever visited. The server (son of owner / chef) is very attentive and friendly. The chef came out from...the kitchen to have us sample the dish before it was served to make sure it was properly spicy. She even gave us hugs before we left. Oh and the meal was delicious too! It was a unique internationally inspired take on Ethiopian. Tasty and fun to eat. We has the vegetarian sampler platter for 2 people and left very full. This was about way more than the meal alone. This was the experience that every restaurant should offer yet almost none even attempt. We will become regulars.More

So unusual is the food you won't forget you've been here. Home made and tasty. This restaurant shows the country you are visiting plus the food from that country. It's extraordinary. Ethiopian delight!

There are many restaurants serving excellent meals, but this is only one I've been to where warm hugs are freely added to the menu. Call it intentional salesmanship if you like. I call it uniquely authentic and divine.

If it's Uchenna for which you're looking, then look no further. This is my all-time favorite restaurant. There is really something special about Chef Maya.
