One of my sisters met the daughter of Ethiopian immigrants in nursing school, and this fellow student introduced her to her parents' restaurant. So my sister loves Ethiopian food. We just recently moved from the UK into this area, which is a long day's drive from my sister. In searching around for various things, I discovered this restaurant and was delighted to have the opportunity to try Ethiopian food without having to make that drive. So my expectations were perhaps heightened. ;-)
At any rate, my expectations were met. They are only doing takeaway/takeout right now, of course, but when I called in the lady on the phone was helpful and informative about the level of spice in each dish I ordered. My husband went to get the food and couldn't find the place at all. But when he called, she came out with the food so that he didn't have to keep looking.
The food was really good! For those who have never had it before, Ethiopian food could be a bit of a shocker (at least the injera bread - teff has a flavour I've never tasted before, and I've eaten around a bit). And unless you specify that you don't want spicy, you'll get your sinuses cleared. But we did order one that wasn't described as spicy, and told the lady that it was for our children, and the spice level was quite satisfactory. And each dish came with a different side of lentils, all of them tasty. We don't eat out often just as a practical habit, but this will be one of our go-to places for when we do.

We ordered take-out during an overnight stay. The food was well-prepared, with just the right spiciness in "mild" and "spicy" entrees. Abundant injera was included. The host was thoughtful in checking to make sure we knew the role of injera in many Ethiopian meals.

What an interesting, delicious shared meal experience! Our group of four ordered the family platter for four, with a selection of meats and vegetable dishes. This was all served on one big platter and each person was given a basket- plate of injera spongey bread strips. To eat, you tear off a piece of injera and use it to pinch up a biteful of food. There was spiced, tender chicken, beef, and lamb, and several lentil dishes and a mixed vegetable medley. All awesome, different flavors, all tasty. The restaurant is in a strip mall in Old Colorado City, with few tables so reservations are recommended, and right now, to be seated by 6:00. Soft-spoken owner Maya attends to everyone. The walls are covered in Ethiopian artwork. A hidden treasure!!

BE AWARE NEW PATRONS!!! Not quite sure how this place survives with the extremely low customer service they give. Twice now my husband and I have been turned away from ordering Togo food. This business does not honor the times they say they are open to and have little regret about it!! The First time was a year ago and it was 7 pm on a Friday night and then tonight my husband walked in at 7:20 and was told no more orders and he said you close at 8 and her reply was that doesn’t matter. Keep in mind they had 6 out of the 8 tables they have in the dining room seated! Also it’s a Friday night!! This is a horrible way to run a business and a despicable way to treat customers!! I’d like to say I’d give them another shot but this makes me feel as if their food might be as mediocre as the employees!!

Morning of peace to you dear customer,
Oh my dear how sad it is to read your comment. We are veteran family with the highest regards not only to our devout customers but also to anyone walking into our place. We are always extremely busy and sometimes we are truly unable to accommodate to go orders. Our website precisely indicates the hours for take outs as well as for reservations. When the website informs customers to put their to go orders at the indicted time and you want to order at 7pm or 7:20 pm, it make us sad that you tried to order late, way late. We are blessed to be highly respect and honored not only by our customers from every state but also our customers from overseas. We wish you all best to come on your path in this life. Be blessed. Maya

Upon entering the restaurant, we knew that this was special. Maya's greeting had the feel you were family. From the placement of knapkins on your lap, answering and explaining how we would experience the fabulous flavorful food was so helpful. The appetizer Injera Fit Fit was a flavor bomb and the beginning of our unique dining experience. We had a seafood platter and Doro Wat. We did a little sharig by feeding each other. The last time I did this was at our wedding, feeding the traditional cake to my beautiful wife. We were taught the four finger scoop with the Injera bread to gather up the chicken and / or seafood with lentils . Spiced to perfection, this meal was excellent. We were blessed to step out of our norm to try the Ethopian flavors.

Uchenna's is a small, unassuming restaurant serving authentic Ethiopian food, which is really, really good. The owner is an impossibly sweet lady who left Ethiopia to look for success in America. She succeeded.

We enjoyed our meal here very much. We had dinner in the traditional Ethiopian way, meaning that dinner was served on one large platter in the middle of our table. We had beef, chicken, lamb, collard greens and chickpeas. The food was very flavorful but not “hot” spicy. Our meal was served with bread that was similar to something between a thin pancake and a fluffy tortilla. I highly recommend you visit Uchenna while you are in Colorado Springs! Talking with Mya was the highlight of our evening! She was so sweet and shared about her culture and food! For desert we had baclava. It was so good!

Their business might be booming but their customer service is horrible. We called today Wednesday at 6:20pm to make an order to pick up and they said that they were not taking orders as they wanted to close early at 7pm today (even though their website clearly states open until 8pm). Rude and unprofessional.

The food was amazing, and the presentation was wonderful, but most of all, the restaurant owner and the others whom we have met who work there, are truly beautiful, warm people.
The walls are adorned with art from Africa, and the whole experience my husband and I had there, was unforgettable.
I can't recommend it enough.

When we entered, we didnt have a good feeling how the food would be but the experience and food was amazing. The old lady ( sorry we missed to even ask your name) was so nice and treated like family, the food was tasty and the hospitality was amazing. She hugged us and blessed our kids when we left.

Great little place, food was incredible, and the atmosphere was comforting. We spoke with a really lovely woman, I think the owner, and she told us a bit about the culture of Ethiopia.
I believe my friend had to make a reservation, I don’t think they take walk-ins. Definitely worth it whether you’re already a fan of Ethiopian food or trying it for the first time!

Everything was amazing. You need to make a reservation so they know how much food to make that day. The service was very personal and fun. All of the food was the best I've ever had at an Ethiopian restaurant and I've been to many. If you are looking for a fun, unique experience that you won't find anywhere else in Colorado Springs this is the place to go. We tried the chicken, beef and lamb as well as all of the desserts. All of it was 10 stars!

We had a great dinner here. Almost everything is available gluten-free. The food was delicious, and the portion size is quite large. Our leftovers made for a yummy lunch the next day too.

I have no idea how this place gets rated so high. Food was very unspectacular and bland. Setting wasn’t impressive. For a restaurant that is rated so high I expected to be impressed but I found this place to be more of a generic ethnic diner.
