I recently visited this restaurant/bar with friends on a Friday night. I had heard they had good BBQ, and being a Southern girl, I had to check it out. They didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is very casual, with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is covered with picnic tables and a bar, and there's a large sand pit where... More

Don't expect anything fancy here. But do expect especially yummy wings and burgers. The brisket was disappointingly dry but the variety of sauces is fun. The beer is cold and the music loud.

On today's visit my wife ordered a cheeseburger to go and it came without cheese. I ordered the El Viejo, medium rare to go and it come on a plate, not to go so we had it put in a to-go box. Upon getting it home my medium-rare sandwich was so well-done it was crunchy. Also the tomato and onions... More

Stopped in here on a recent business trip to the area. There was a heavy snowstorm and power failures in the area which close the majority of the restaurants. This one was still open so we decided to give it a try. Burgers and barbecue are decent and the prices are not too bad. Most entrées between 10 and $14.... More

We stopped here after a long drive from Iowa. The beer was cold, the environment was casual happy and the bartenders were attentive. I was attracted here because the reviews of their bbq. The bbq was okay, I got the brisket. It was dry. The spicy coleslaw and fire pit beans were great though. My husband got a burger and... More

This is a must when in Broomfield. My wife loves the $5 burger Monday. There ribs are good but there smoked wings are out of this world. Don't let the rough bar look inside mislead you. Great outdoor seating from April till November

The building looks like it's been there for 50 years. It also looks like it needs some TLC on the outside. The inside is a bar. Neon, TV's, rough wood seats and booths. Sign on the door says "No table service". It's clean though, and not as seedy as they want you to believe on the outside. But the beer... More

My wife and stopped for the first time yesterday. I ordered the brisket platter and my wife ordered pulled pork platter. We had the baked beans, pub chips and onion rings. Waitresses were attentive and prompt. We both loved our food and felt the prices were reasonable. As a geezer, my only complaint was it was a little too loud,... More

Description
Let’s get one thing clear from the get-go: This place is a Road House, and I use that term in a most complimentary way. The Old Man is like the Kathmandu Market of pubs – lots of variety, something for everyone, and always a screaming deal to be had, including great $2 cans every day. Olympia, Keystone Light, even Old Milwaukee – which regularly blows the doors off high priced American lagers in blind taste tests. (I’m talking to you, every brand out there with a 7-figure marketing campaign)

Pulling into The Old Man on a Wednesday at 8pm, there are more than 50 cars in the lot, forcing me to park way out on the gravel. I’m thinking it must be booked for a private party or something. Nope – it’s just Wednesday. Groups of dudes finishing up BBQ (no table service here – just walk yourself up to the window and go for Pulled Pork with Kansas City Sweet, side of Hot Links), a zesty bodybuilder chick playing pool, people gearing up for some volleyball in the big back yard. Every type of hat is worn in this place – from cowboy to baseball and everything in between – including tuque (that’s a Bob and Doug McKenzie reference – just to see what it does to our Google search metrics).

The Old Man is a classic old joint amidst the sea of strip-center hell that 120th Avenue has become. Yes, there might be a rusty El Camino in the parking lot, and Grand Funk Railroad may be cranking when you walk in. But that’s the point. This is America, and you embrace it with all your heart. Your Barman JJ Abbey grew up a wrist rocket shot away in West Lake, went to Northglenn High, and is an affable, fun-loving wiseguy. If he’s busy counseling the shagadelic cougar at the end of the bar, Kristy will get you what you need with style and grace. Enjoy the initials and messages carved into the paneling, check out the vintage photos of some classic Old Men, and if you ask real nice you might even get your own beer coozy to store in JJ’s beer coozy room. Just try to find this positive vibe and color in any of the cookie-cutter joints down the way. Bet you an Old Mil that you can’t. No nearby megabar – even one with a supposedly cool rooftop patio – can touch The Old Man. $2 beers and thick green grass under your flip flops – tell me there’s a Pub Heaven, and I’ll tell you it probably looks like this.

We support the Saints, Nuggets, Rockies, Avalanche and the Broncos/Raiders rivalry, in addition to all of Colorado's college teams.
