Staying in Boulder and wanted some good Italian food. Did not want to go to the tourist places on Pearl Street. When I looked at the reviews, I knew this was the place. We got there late- 6:45, and they close at 8. Did not...have a reservation, but Mariano (sorry if I did not spell that correctly), the owners son, fit us in with a lovely little table in the hallway. The staff were all pleasant and attentive. You could understand why the hallway wall was covered with reviews from magazines and newspapers. This family works hard to make this a top notch dining experience. Everything was delicious. Next time in Boulder, we will have a reservation!More

We ordered takeout for our holiday lunch at work and loved it! I got the cheese ravioli with the arrabbiata sauce which was delicious. I was really impressed by the sauce. My coworkers loved their dishes as well. I can’t wait to go back and...try more of the food. I’m from the east coast and one of the things I miss is the Italian food. I am glad I found this spot!More

It was sort of upsetting reading some of the very few negative reviews this eve. We're self-admitted food snobs and have so many people in our "foodie circle" who LOVE this special "hole in the wall" Italian restaurant in Boulder--and we're not poor. We just...don't want to blow hundreds of dollars for an Italian meal at one of Boulder's most-pretentious Italian restaurants. This place is small, so a bit tight inside--and that's ok. We know Boulder is an expensive place for commercial property and generally prefer good take-out over an expensive atmosphere and hypervigilant waitstaff. We don't know the owners/their family, but they're always here, courteous and attentive. Their lasagnas are "melt in your mouth" delicious. We also like to pick up some of their homemade noodles for cooking at home.More

I have eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants but this has been the worst food I have ever experienced. The spaghetti was like mush, like a mashed potato. My wife's lasagna had no taste and was cold. Absolutely the worst food I have eaten...in a long time. Not even sure how this place can stay in business with such awful food.More

This place got great reviews both on line and with our host. We had pasta with a tomato/basil sauce that was terrible. So bad we sent it back, sticky past and heavy sauce. To their credit, they didn't charge us for anything but the (very...thin) slices of chicken which was nicely seasoned and the flan which was also very heavy, but sweet. It is a very small space and the service was excellent.More

The Lobster Ravioli with Aurora (tomato and cream) sauce was delicious. The pasta and sauce are all homemade and it truly was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had! My husband ordered the Linguini Mare Nero and thought it was good but not...great. It just didn't compare to my Lobster Ravioli. The service was great. My only complaint service-wise is that we made a reservation but still had to wait. It's a charming little place. It's just a little too cramped for me. I get really nervous being that close to strangers while I'm having dinner, especially during covid. Overall, I enjoyed the food but I would take it to go. The to-go cook at home packages seem like a better bang for your buck anyway.More

Food is good. Staffs are great. Why would we give two stars? Ambiance and overall experience was poor.

Our family of six were all able to find something super yummy, and the service was great. The owner checked in on us a few times which shows how much care is taken to provide excellent service and a great experience. Small, intimate atmosphere but...it was quaint and we really enjoyed it.More

Come here for the good northern italian food (not the service). Unfortunately, the meatballs leave much to be desired as they're barely seasoned and actually tasted like just boiled beef. I would pay twice the price for a decent meatball but wouldn't take these again...if they were free. Apparently, the bread is different since Covid shutdown. The lasagna is excellent and the spaghetti bolognese is my favorite. Definitely make sure you get the mousse and regardless of the level of service, tip the guy twice as much as things have been hard on restaurants.More

Il Pastaio is a very small (seats about 25, mostly at high-tops for two) place but pretty cool, too. It is located in a shopping mall next to the King Sooper, just east of thirtieth street. Easy to overlook, but very convenient once you know...where it is. Easy parking, too. There is no waiter service; you order sorta cafeteria style. The food is good and the people are friendly and helpful. There is a nice lunch (entree, salad, side dish and bread) for $13. The pasta is the thing to order here. Pasta and sauces also available for take out. Nice place for a quick and pretty inexpensive mealor a quick and (byfor afor a quick, prettyMore

Great pasta, great service! Best to get reservations because it's a small place that fills up. We were there on a Tuesday and without reservations were fortunate to get a table.
