This place is AMAZING!!!

I live in San Diego and came to Windsor to visit friends. I was lucky enough to come here last night for dinner and was not disappointed. The food was out of this world and Kelly and her staff were so gracious. I wish I lived closer I would be coming here all the time.

Good food but they keep us waiting

Food is always excellent, fresh and good presentation. Quite often we get food to go and everytime they give us a pick up time we end up waiting 15 plus minutes for our food. Otherwise we have no complaints.

Used to be good… sad to write this but all the rolls lacked flavor. Rolls were basic. Cuts of fish were not good. Really disappointed.

Worst Japanese Food Terrible Quality and Flavor Unprofessional Service

Amazing that this restaurant gets such great reviews and that it is popular. The night I was there the restaurant was filled with what seemed like mostly local area diners. Ume has two large and pleasant dining rooms and the atmosphere and decor is soothing. There is wine and beer served as well as Sake and teas. The waitress who served us was very friendly. However, her helper, a second young lady that bussed the table, poured water and brought out the food plates was sloppy in her actions. AS for the food: The Snow White Yellow Tail and scallop roll was a large portion and attractive in make up, but lacked any flavor. The House salad was wilted and boring to look at and in taste. The Miso soup with cubes of silken tofu was good. The Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura was embarrassing and the worst I have ever been served. The coating was greasy and the shrimp tasted only of soggy bread coating with no taste of shrimp meat. It came across as if the chef cut each shrimp in quarters lengthwise and battered each. The Escolar fish with steamed vegetables was not was expected. Two rounds of cross sections of fish with the skin on and bone in, sitting on top of mostly a mix of salad greens with some token pieces of broccoli that shared the plate with a huge mound of white rice. It was sent back untouched. The Soft shell crab was a thin sickly deep fried crab that looked sad on the dish. There are at least two other Japanese restaurants west of Highway 101 in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park that serve very good to exceptional food that put Ume to shame.

One of the better sushi spots!

Wife and I stopped by last night. They were able to seat us immediately even though they were packed. I see why so busy for dinner now. Wife had a bento box and I ordered two different rolls. Everything was very good. Her soup could have been hotter but she had no major complaints. Well done Ume.

Very surprising!!

Nice style points, Excellent fish quality. Nice Sake selections available. We were staying in Windsor and were "jonesin'" for some good sushi. But we're from a city by the ocean and were a bit skeptical about the appearance of the restaurant. Once we were served, all doubts evaporated I guess they used to be in a location that was immolated in recent fires. The current location is OPEN and serving great sushi!

Very sad news

This wonderful restaurant is no longer there. It fell victim to the Sonoma fires. I’m not sure if the owners plan to rebuild. So sad, this was a great place on many levels.

Hi Wynne, I believe you meant to post this for a different restaurant? Umé Japanese Bistro was fortunately unaffected by the fire, and is still in operation. We are sad for anyone who were affected. Kelly

Good Sushi and sashimi, Salmon teriyaki, and noodles. They also do lots of different rolls (tuna, etc). If you like Uni, get the Uni Nigiri when they have it fresh (usually from Mendocino). Nice staff, always friendly and helpful. Best Japanese Restaurant we have found in Windsor.

Great find in Windsor

Been visiting a friend in Windsor for many years and missed a turn and noticed Ume. My friend who has lived in Windsor for 30 years had never eaten here, so I said let's give it a try for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised! I chose chirashi which was beautifully arranged with a wonderful assortment of sashimi and pickled veggies. My friend loved her combo, a generous portion of perfectly lightly battered tempura and chicken teriyaki. Eating here was a great experience, friendly staff and most of all the meal was awesome.

Very good Japanese food

Came with my granddaughter for dinner. We had rainbow roll which was excellent, agedashi tofu which was so good (fried tofu cubes) and udon and tempura. Udon was a bit fishy and tempura was very tasty but bottom pieces were a bit soggy. Taste of everything was flavorful. Price was $38 for the 3 dishes and we couldn't finish it!
