We arrived for a stay at the nearby Residence Inn road-weary and hungry. The Lure Fish House looked like a great place to get a nice meal. It had an inviting appearance and was busy. So busy that we had to wait 40 minutes to...be seated, understandable on night with crowds.
After we were seated we waited 12 minutes for our server to appear to inquire about drinks. Her first words were "we're sorry, but we are out of bread." Apparently a basket of bread is usually delivered. We said, OK, and asked for water and a lemonade, and since we had studied the menu while waiting for our table, we ordered our entrees, Shrimp Brochette ($25) with pineapple cole slaw and parmesan potato as sides and Rockfish Veracruz, which came with beans rice and avocado, and she disappeared. Since we had given my phone number to be notified when our table was ready, 15 minutes after being seated I got a text asking if everything was going OK. I responded "no" to the text, because of the long wait. In a couple of minutes a manager appeared, and inquired about my response. I started to explain my dissatisfaction at the long wait for drinks, and being told that there was no bread basket. Just then the server returned to with two glasses of water, saying that they were out of lemonade. I pointed this additional negative experience to the manager. She said sorry and that she would try to expedite our entrees and retreated. A few minutes later, a server brought our entrees. We were very hungry by now, but not so much as to forgive what was presented to us. My wife's meal was total disaster: the shrimp were slightly overcooked and therefore chewy, arrived lukewarm, not hot, and were tasteless. The cabbage of the coleslaw was tough, like it had been allowed to dry out, and the pineapple flavoring was obviously from a can, not fresh, and had a tinny taste, like it sat in the can too long. The potato cake was simply a patty of refried mashed potatoes, burned on the bottom. I have to say the my rockfish was delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked, served hot. The beans and rice that came with it were unremarkable.
In the meantime, we noticed that the recently arrived guests across the aisle were presented a bread basket soon after being seated.
The server said that that the manager wanted to give us a free desert because there was no bread basket and no lemonade. After finishing our meal, we ordered the blueberry cobbler, which was tasty.
We signaled that we were ready for the check. When the check arrived it included $4.50 for the lemonade $9 for desert! I protested to the server and she returned with another check with those charges reversed.
We were highly disappointed with the meal and management. The server herself did the best she could. The place looked promising, but it did no deliver a quality dining experience for us.More
