Been coming here for years and the food was always consistently good. The service was always impeccable and friendly.. But the past year the food has been noticeably bad and very poorly executed . We keep hoping it improves but it gets even worse ....Very disappointed . Once ordered the Lasagna ( it used to be delicious ) and it came looking more like soup ..it was flat and had too much sauce and the sauce had no flavor . Very poorly plated . We didn’t finish the Lasagna and didn’t take it home either . Another time the Seppia Dore ( Calamari steak ) was too thick and had not been tenderized nor pounded thin . It was so thick and could not even cut with a knife , (should have been given steak knives) but it would not have mattered it was so tough . It was floured and let sit as the flour and moisture made it taste like raw dough . The vegetables were so under cooked we could barely cut them and the pasta was just thrown on the plate haphazardly, wow really ! Plate looked like a mess and tasted like one . Another time the half chicken was so small it looked ridiculous on the plate and again the vegetables and pasta sides were horrible . I will say the chicken did have flavor though . The house salad looked like an amateur put it together. The next time had the Tortellini Montecatini , it was so over cooked the tortellini had fallen apart just a mushy plate that resembled nothing Italian . We never sent any dishes back as we were holding out hope that it was just a glitch but after so many bad experiences it must be management… I heard on last visit there was problems in the kitchen … it should have been solved long ago . I also found that cocktails even seem weaker and inconsistent ..on one occasion recently the Martinis varied in quantity from one customer to another . That’s not Customer friendly when it is so noticeable . Montecatini’s is not cheap and should have impeccable food like it used to . With Original Joe’s coming to Walnut Creek Montecatini’s better up its quality of food . Wish we could go back a few years when the old chef who put his heart into their restaurant. The service is very good here and the servers work so hard in such tiny spaces . It seems that the owners are trying to get as many tables in as possible , which makes conversation difficult. .More

This is probably the best restaurant I've ever been to. The food was great, the wine was wonderful - and the dessert was amazing! The staff is also incredibly gracious. I will return often - even if I have to drive out of my way!...I watched a baseball game on the big screen, so they make the setting comfortably casual even though the service and food is impeccable:)More

I made reservations for 3 of us and we were promptly seated when we arrived. The drinks were good & the food was ok but the atmosphere is loud. Be prepared for the noise & being seated close to other diners. We had Caesar Salad...before our meals. My husband tried the lasagna casalinga and would not order it again. The sauce was different and not what he expected. My daughter had the pollo alla schiacciata (roasted chicken) that takes 30 min to prepare. She said it was good but would try something else next time as well. I had the pollo saltimbocca and was happy with it. I would order that again. Not sure we will be back anytime soon as there are lots of Italian places that have better ambience.More

We went with two couples; party of six before attending an 8pm musical near by. Fortunately we had reservations because the restaurant was packed!! Our server could have been more attentive, it took 20 minutes to place a drink order after we were seated. We...ordered off the regular menu, though there are dinner specials; I debated about a risotto special but ended up with the veal tortellini. My husband had the veal ravioli; both were very good!More

Went here on a Sunday evening. It was pretty busy, we were glad we’d made a reservation! The waitress was great! Friendly, accommodating, & efficient. Ordered a caprese salad as a starter while we waited for one of our party. It was fresh & delicious....Our food came out quickly. We had the calamari sore (lemony & tender), a pasta with seafood (mildly spicy), the pepper steak ( juicy & cooked perfectly). We were stuffed, but since it was a birthday, we shared a chocolate canaloni dessert ( creamy inside & hard shell dipped in chocolate). Sooo rich! One person could NOT eat it! However, the best part we the handful of colorful confetti the waitress tossed on the table before presenting the dessert!! Had a great evening! My only negative is it was VERY noisy & hard to have a conversation.More

I have lived less than three miles from Montecatini for over 20 years and this was my first visit. Friends have recommended, but I never knew exactly where it was and, just didn’t bother to find. I was walking down the street, and there it...was. I looked up reviews and told the hubby we were going Saturday. We did and it was fantastic. I come from a family that made pasta for restaurants in Kenosha WI. I know good pasta. I am crazy picky about gnocchi (please pronounce correctly) and Montecatini did NOT disappoint. Their gnocchi is in my top 5 of all time. Light, fluffy, perfectly done. It was heavenly pillows of yummyness. The wine list was perfectly matched to the food. The service was friendly and attentive. Not to fussy, but attention to detail. Seemed like a LOT of regulars as there were lots of hugs between guests and staff. There was not a single empty table while we dined. The turnover was impressive. The hostess turned out to be the co owner and very friendly. I am putting them on our regular places to visit. Reasonably priced for excellent food.More

Five of us had a very nice after theater dinner. Every dish was delicious. Good salads, especially the Gorgonzola. Nice service. Large portions. I had the scallops which were dynamite. Highly recommended!

Went here with friends the first time, great service, great food! Unfortunately when we went again we had a very different experience, the service was bad, we waited forever for our order to be taken and again for the food. I repeatedly tried to get...the waiters attention to order more drinks before the food arrived with no luck. When food finally arrived it was just meh.More

I am spoiled when it comes to 'home-style' Italian cooking as my mother was an amazing, second generation Italian, cook. So when I say Montecatini does home-style Italian well, it is certainly worth trying out. You also know it has to be good because of...just how long this restaurant has been in, the very competitive, Walnut Creek. You just are not going to last unless you can constantly deliver good food. I am also always very happy with the service and they have a reasonable priced wine list that has some very tasty choices.More

This place doesn't look like much from the front, but once you enter it's a different experience. It's nicely decorated, the tables aren't too close together. There is a small bar area which has a good happy hour menu. The service and food are both...good. Their pastas are my go to, I usually try whatever is on special that day. I like to give my business to local places that give back to the community.More

Looking for a comfortable neighborhood place with excellent food and service....you will find it at Montecatini Ristorante in Walnut Creek. A great place for special occasion celebrations or a great meal. Raves over the lamb shank from two in our party. Mahi Mai and shrimp...were also good choices. A wide list of food choices and wine list. Corkage fee of $15.00 per bottle let's you bring in your favorite. Happy hour offers a range of drinks and appetizers. Desserts well done. Service attentive and thoughtful.More
