A friend took me to lunch here when I visited. We each ordered the Bibimbop, which offers choices of white or purple rice, meats, vegetarian, and other options. It came with a variety of vegetables, all for $12. It was fantastic. As they say in...Korea, 여기 와서 시도 해봐! (You have to come here and try it!)More

Been here several times with my daughter since we both work nearby. Lots of pluses: clean, bright modern dining area, good service, and fresh food. The BBQ beef short ribs, thinly sliced beef and spicy pork are tender and delicious, along with the purple rice...(mixed grain). This isn't the place to go if you want to BBQ your own meat but they do a good job of doing it for you. Another favorite is the bibimbop with a variety of veggies and a sunny-side egg. It's a bonus that they refill the banchan (small plates) if you want. More seafood choices would be great. I do wish they had more pear juice in stock. It's on their menu but I was told they were out of it when I ordered the juice during two visits.More

It had been a while since my wife and I had been to Mixed Grain. The last time we tried they were closed for vacation. We went back for lunch, arriving a bit before noon on a Wednesday. There was plenty of seating available. I...don't know if someone was late arriving for work, or someone simply didn't show up, but we sat for quite a while before a menu and water appeared. I'm not sure if the server was taking care of take-out orders or what, but it was a long wait. Once we had menus, there was another long lapse before the order was taken. Then we sat again. For a while I wondered whether they still offered banchan, because in the past the dishes came to the table very soon after your order was taken. Not this time. The banchan arrived only a few minutes before our lunch order. We both ordered the dolsot bibimbap, one with chicken and the other with spicy pork. The food was nicely prepared and we enjoyed the meal. It was also a good value, factoring in the banchan. I would certainly go back and eat there again. The food was terrific, and the value very good. I've gotten a lot less for my dining dollar in Oakland and Berkeley. I am hoping that the service was an anomaly, but it was not inspiring, and noticeably poorer than in prior visits. Essentially every visit from the server came with an apology. I am glad that they were aware of how slow the service was. It would be better if they took steps to correct it. When a restaurant is very busy, you cut them some slack. The restaurant was not even one-third full during the entire period we were there. It's not a good sign, and hopefully they take some corrective action.More

This place is sooooo good. I'm dying to go back! Coworkers brought me here the other day and I can't wait to go back. Service is great, very professional and attentive. I ordered the soft tofu stew (Spicy of course) and added shiitake mushrooms. Omg...it came out boiling and it 1. Made a great social media post and 2. Tasted AMAZING! The best soft tofu stew I've ever had so far. The flavors are great and the portion size is definitely filling. I ordered with white rice. The spicy level was perfect but I probably could've taken more heat. My coworkers also seemed to enjoy their food since they cleaned their bowls. One ordered kimchi stew and another ordered beef ramen. Thumbs up from both of them! This place isn't typical Korean with bbq, it's all the good cuisine minus the BBQ experience so keep that in mind. But they have so many delicious looking options to choose from. Next time I want to order something new, but it'll be hard to avoid the tofu stew. Anyways, please do yourself a favor and go here when you're in the area and craving something hella good.More

Unbelievable and completely blown away by they way this restaurant treat their customers! I am a repeat customer and have been here many times. This evening we ordered chicken wings with sauce on the side which we have ordered many times successfully (sauce is too...spicy for my son) and some other items from this restaurant and came home to find that there was sauce on our order of wings. I called back to let them know so that we can bring back my order since my son cannot eat spicy food. The gentleman that took my order started getting defensive and said "I repeated your order back to you when you ordered" and then he proceeded to relay that he specifically stated that there IS sauce on the wings which was complete BS and he basically he could not do anything about it. We went back and forth and I expressed how disappointed I was that they were not even willing to correct their mistake which we had to throw away. I then asked to speak with the owner and he hung up on me!!!! Can you believe that?!?!? I called back and asked the person that picked up the call (I believe another gentleman but possibly the same person?) explained my situation and requested the name of the person that I initially spoke with. He then proceeded to tell me that he cannot release that information to me because that is "confidential" and also he is a new employee and do not want to get him in trouble. Ok, fine, can I have your name? I asked. He would not give that to me. Again UNBELIEVABLE! I then asked for the owner's name so that I can speak with them. Next answer is just mind-blowing...."There are multiple owners..." Well give me one!! I said...and again he kept repeating "Well...there are multiple owners. At this point I am just flabbergasted! I then started to demand a name and the gentleman then started to say your phone call is now choppy and your voice is too high pitched. WOW!!! Then he put the phone down and started speaking with another person. OMG!!!!!! It's really a shame that they are located in the hub of so many great restaurants where customer service is at a forefront but NOT these guys! All they had to say was my apologies, can you please bring your order back and we will remake it for you? I would have been completely satisfied with that. I was not even expecting a refund! Their employees are obviously poorly managed and need better training. We will NOT be supporting this business any longer. Why go and support a restaurant that has no regard to their service?d We WILL be making sure to share our experience to all of our peers as well. BTW, there are so many great korean restaurants that does not have this kind of rookie service. Jonga House in Oakland, Ohgane in Concord & Oakland, Moa in Pleasant Hill, and now Gen Korean bbq in Concord.More

This place is amazing. If you go on the weekend, arrive early or expect a line out the door. I've been a few times, and each time the quality and freshness of the food has been outstanding. My favorite is the rice bowl with purple...rice. And the endless side dishes are fun and tasty. Great service as well. It's kid friendly, so it can be a little noisy. Fantastic value.More

Although the location is small, there is always a line out the door, so you won't miss it. The atmosphere is fun for that reason. This is a great place for a gluten intolerant foodie to experience some good eats. I ordered a big bowl...of spicy jhap chae noodles with chicken for lunch, and I devoured the whole thing.More

Overall surprising good food for the taste of americans. 'Mandoo' (korean dumplings) a bit too plain for korean authentic food and Kimchi was the same. Spicy ramen were very nice. I worked in Taiwan with Korean Contractor and they had their own kitchen and cook...and in comparison the food was a bit to plain. Overall good selection and good flavour and hence recommend.More

Clean and fast service. Menu choices are well described with typical Korean meals. The novice diners should have no difficulty.

My wife and I have been coming here for several years and I just never got around to writing a review. Last night we went again so it spurred me to action. We always like going there for their Korean Bimimbop; I had the Hot...Pot, vegetarian, and my wife had the Regular Works with some beef. We both had more than enough to eat and actually took home some for lunch the next day. They serve a nice compliment of Korean side dishes, kimchee, etc. which is nice to add to the Bimimbop for different flavoring. Prices are reasonable, you can easily get out of there for under $50 for two. This is a great place to get your veggies, as their bimimbop come with 8-12 different types of vegetables and a fried egg on top. You can add optional chicken, salmon, beef, etc. if you want the extra protein. There's not much to say about the ambience, its pretty basic, but if you just want to get in to eat, get served your food fairly quickly, and not feel afterwards like you overate, this is a great place to go.More
