I've waited too long to review this restaurant but it's time. I visited Okidoki many times while living in Tustin, CA. It was the first sushi place I visited in California and it is by far my favorite one. The staff is wonderful and makes...you feel at home. The whole staff greets you happily in Japanese like you are family and are exceptional at creating an atmosphere that feels like you are visiting friends. The chefs are masters of their craft and engage with you at the sushi bar. Their skill is extraordinary and their knowledge of pairings when it comes to sushi are spot on. When they heard I had just moved to Tustin they welcomed me with appetizers and tastes from the kitchen. The customers welcomed me as well, sending drinks over and welcoming me to the community. In terms of the food... perfection. Spicy Beef Udon is a dish served here. It is a spicy broth with thinly sliced beef, veggies, and is served over a small flame to keep it hot. There is also a rice ball that you drop into the broth when you are ready for it, transforming the broth into an almost risotto dish, the heat breaking down the riceball in smaller bites. This is a dish you can only order while sitting down in the restaurant because of how it is served. It is my favorite dish and if I had to choose my final meal, this would be in. Their salmon night is extraordinary for the amount of salmon you get for the price. Our favorite is the lemon salmon sushi. It is the freshest tasting sushi we have ever had (and I've eaten sushi after catching fish on a boat). Unreal. The dessert is also perfect. They made a black sesame ice cream homemade and it is like nothing I have ever tasted. Their innovation is just incredible. I love this place and miss it so much. We now live in Pennsylvania and if I could make any restaurant appear in my town, it would be Okidoki. Thank you Okidoki for some of the best food I will ever eat. Arigatou gozaimasuMore

The place was tight and the tables were set up so closely that made me uncomfortable as I was nearly touching a guest sitting at the next table but the sushi special ($40 for 10 pc) and the soba were of top quality. The Japanese...sushi chef made difference.More

Came here on a Saturday night and joined the wait list. Wait list said we had a 30-45 min. wait but we got in earlier as we were a small party. We noted that they make their own Udon noodles each day so we wanted...to try them. Ordered the Beef Sukiyaki Udon and the Spicy Beef Udon. Both were excellent. The Spicy Beef Udon had plenty of fresh noodles perfectly cooked, ground spicy beef in a very rich, flavorful broth. Beef Sukiyaki came with a deep fried cheese rice ball to be put in the sukiyaki after you devoured the noodles. The dish included plenty of shaved beef perfectly seasoned and cooked. We also had sushi - two rolls and both were awesome - very fresh fish and generous portions. We left so full we couldn't see straight, and that is unusual for a Japanese restaurant. The interior is cozy and warm with plenty of small tables and a sushi bar to boot. Staff is very friendly and warm and gave us some great suggestions when we asked about the menu. We also noted how clean it is - unlike other Isakaya's in the area this place is spotless. Prices are reasonable ($10-12 for a bowl of Udon). They serve wine, beer and sake. Hubby enjoy his hot house sake and I had plum wine. Their plum wine portion was more than I could handle - I'd guess it was a double pour! Parking is a trick especially on weekend evenings but this is worth it!More

Judging from the crowd on Friday night it is a popular Japanese eatery. Dishes are passable but not great. No traditional sashimi on the menu. Service hard to get.

My husband and I had lunch at Okidoki recently. This review is only about their soba. It's made in house and tastes very fresh. If you want to enjoy just good soba without any side dish I recommend you order "seiro". It is served only...with dipping sauce and wasabi and green onion as condiments. At the end you get "soba yu" (hot water soba was boiled in) and you dilute dipping sauce with it and drink it. This is how the Japanese finish eating cold soba. The price is reasonable. The chef and staff are nice. Since it's really an Izakaya (Japanese pub) I want to try their small dishes in the evening sometime soon.More

Located in a shopping center bordered by Newport Avenue, Main Street and 6th Street, Oki Doki describes itself as an “izakaya,” which is a Japanese version of an informal gastropub. However, you don’t have to be a drinker to enjoy Oki Doki. One thing first-time...visitors will struck by is the menu, which is extensive and contains items that many may find unfamiliar. Besides the sushi and rice bowls, there are numerous options that are recommended; for example, their noodles are freshly made, so their ramen, soba and udon are all excellent. Another possibility are their bento boxes. There is also an option to be seated at a table where you can enjoy different types of Nabe (Japanese-style hot pot). For the adventurous, you can request “omakase” style dining, which is a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef. I opted for grilled mackerel – it was a delicious taste from my youth. This restaurant is popular and the dining room is small, so you should either make reservations, go early or be prepared to wait. The parking lot is large, but it can become very crowded due to the number of eateries in the center. At any rate, dining at Oki Doki is worth the extra effort!More

This is a great restaurant. Food is very tasty and well priced. The restaurant is in a small setting near Souplantation. This is not the place for groups of more than 10. Extremely good value. A surprising find!
