I am so embarrassed I brought my boyfriends parents here 😢 They were visiting us in Truckee and with covid it’s obviously hard to have a normal dining experience so we had low expectations. Even with low expectations though I was apologizing profusely to them...for the terrible experience! I support the local businesses and I hate writing a bad review as I know they have been dealing with a lot, but I’m not quite sure what is going on at Cottonwood! Everything that could have gone wrong did and we were all very uncomfortable dining at this restaurant and we felt like we were nagging the staff just to get basic necessities! I’ll spare the details because nobody has time for that but I truly hope this restaurant makes some drastic changes so they don’t have to shut down ☹️More

My hotel suggested that I got to this place based on me being a picky eater. Let me tell you this place had breathtaking views. Had the best steak I have ever had (and I’m from Texas). I have choking hazards, and my waiter checked...on me to make sure I was ok. They didn’t have an issue with I was a party of 1. Treated me like family. I highly recommend.More

Best Sunday Bruch Ever! Quaint rustic setting with fabulous Truckee Views from deck, train passing by below. All enjoyed the Mimosas, Egg Benedict, Quiche, guitar music. Made reservations on way out for next weekend...

The food was soooo good. All of our meals were fantastic. The date butter with the bread was the best butter I have ever had!

Cottonwood’s deck view and inviting ambience make this restaurant a real pleasure. In the COVID era, all dining is outdoors, so patrons need not worry if they’ll get one of those coveted tables. The food is also good - all items are a la carte....We find the service excellent and the kitchen accommodating. An 18 ounce steak was too big for either of us, but the chef split it cooking each half to our individual preference. We also enjoyed a salad of burrata and roasted peaches and another featuring beets. Good food and the setting combine to make this a worthy dining option.More

I recently had an absolutely awful meal at Cottonwood with the only positive being a nice view. It was such a let down to have an experience like this in such an iconic building. Disappointments were as follows: - Almost all of the meats, including...grilled ½ chicken, were listed at "MP" (market price). I've never seen this before except for items like lobster or daily specials. - The bread, which there is an extra charge, was tasteless and hard. - The starter of hummus was topped with cold vegetables, which had been grilled at some point, was served with cold, soggy pita bread. - My drink finally came, after 20 minutes, and I was told the bartender was “away”. - Next, the caesar salad was delivered. It had so much garlic I tasted it well into the next day and the lettuce had some unpleasant grit (assuming it wasn’t washed well). - Finally, the steak arrived, which I ordered medium rare although I wasn’t asked my temperature preference. It was between well done and medium (only a couple of bites had any pink) and dry. - One of the two steak sauces we ordered, each for an extra charge, was simply seasoned butter which was cold as they either forgot to melt it or couldn’t because of the plastic serving container like the ones at fast food restaurants. - When half way done with the steak, the side of mashed potatoes arrived cold so I asked for them to be reheated. I never saw them again. - When asked about desert, I shared my “delight” and asked the server for the check. He apologized and said he’d take a drink and the potatoes off the bill. Upon returning, neither item was deducted which I pointed out. He apologized again and said the manager told him they would be removed. After the second try, the two items were deducted. I regularly dine at upscale restaurants in Truckee, as well as The Bay Area, and don’t resent paying for high quality food/service. As noted above, nothing about this experience was high quality but the prices were extraordinary. Vegan meatloaf (primarily black beans, potatoes and soy) for $35, fried chicken for $38, hummus and caesar salad (both described above) run $18 and $22. Again, most prices are not even listed on the menu which maybe was an initial sign I should have noticed and run.More

We ate dinner here outside on the deck overlooking the Truckee River and community. Loved our view! The evening outside was perfect and the food and service was pretty good too! Look forward to our return visit to try something new...and enjoy the outside deck.

We have lived in Truckee for 25 years and way back when, I worked at Cottonwood. Things have changed. First, the Cesar Salad used to be made with garlic and anchovies, fresh! Sadly, it now tastes like ranch dressing. Never change the signature dish when...it was the town favorite. We ordered pork chops and the portion size was crazy....two huge pork chops! I barely finished one and boxed the rest to take home. I saw two tables throw multiple pork chops away. We can't have this kind of food waste. Portion size does not equal amazing food. The soup was good and the service was ok. Yes, the new carpet and paint helps too. It is not the place it was, but I guess everything changes.More

Over the years we have enjoyed this spot. Tonight was our last night. They seem to have believed and relied upon their reputation a bit too much. The staff was overall not in line with prices and they just showed up. The furniture is beaten....My chair had a significant hole in the back and for an upscale place that is not ok. The food was good enough though overpriced. As was the limited wine list. Sorry to see it have fallen down like this. I won’t continue with further detail as it just continues to spoil the evening.More

We hear you, KathyL and we are definitely not relying on reputation. The place did get dated, so this weekend, we replaced every table in the restaurant with new natural wood tabletops. We are closing for the last week in October to continue the refresh...More

We had a crew of 28 people. With that being said, we were well taken care of. Great food and the server was attentive and friendly.

dlp7, we very much enjoyed serving your crew of 28. Thank you for the kind words. We are continuing to work on improving our private party service to make it the best in Tahoe.
