My daughter was coming to town and wanted to have abalone, and since it is hard to find we looked around and found it at this restaurant. I looked up the menu and saw the price to be 65 dollars which is hefty but we agreed to this and made a reservation and I called to insure that they would in fact have abalone at that time. We had a nice meal the abalone was only 2 small medallions around 3 inches in diameter, but the shock came when our server delivered the bill! The meals were 105 dollars apiece!! A 40 dollar mark up from the menu price we saw. I immediately checked my phone for the menu again and it now said market price. So I guess lesson learned, we didn't look at the menu upon arrival since we had pre-ordered the meal. I will never go there again, I feel like we got duped. BEWARE...

This is worth a special trip. We have made it both times we were in Trinidad...one of our all time favorite places. Moonstone is amazingly friendly and casual while serving gourmet, fresh and local dishes with artful ease (try the clam chowder! Or the fish and chips). We also love the happy hour at the bar. We go there each time we are Trinidad. When I left a sentimental piece of clothing there, they shipped it to me no questions asked. Love this place!

The service was great. Wine wonderful. Food was average and surprisingly so. Filet and mashed potatoes were bland. Lobster fettuccine was weirdly served with fish roe which made for a funny texture and was too sweet. Cajun shrimp was great appetizer. Crab cakes were pretty good as well. Salmon wontons were dry and small. I’m not a fan of dill so, of course, dill was everywhere.

We didn't have reservations so expected to wait. They said 10 to 15 min. They actually seated us in 15 min but didn't get any service to take our order for 30min. We ordered and didn't see our food for almost 40min. I ordered an appetizer and salad . The appetizer was the Jumbo Shrimp for $16. They were not very good and definitely not worth $16. They had a stale taste to them ... maybe that had been frozen for a while. The sauce they put on them was tasteless. There were only 3 ... an odd amount for an appetizer where you usually share with another. The salad was Meh. In order to make it GF they left off various things and didn't have substitutes so it was pretty bland too. The waitress was pretty green and didn't seem to know much more than take an order and bring food. Odd for such an expensive place. My husband did like his fish dinner- think it was salmon although salmon was overcooked. It was at night so there was no view since it was dark. I thought the meal we had at the Murphy Market in Trinidad was so much better. Also , this restaurants prices in general were way overpriced. I would go to Moonstone Beach for the view and go somewhere else for dinner. Try the Eatery in Trinidad. That was amazing.

This used to be a great restaurant, excellent food, great drinks with a unbelievable view. It still has the view, but that’s it. The new owners have not only cut the quality of the once great food to subpar standards but they have halved the size of the drinks, let most of the long term great staff go and raised the prices through the roof. They have turned this place into a tourist trap to drain the money from unsuspecting travelers who aren’t “ in the know”. Hopefully this will change and I will go every few months and update if it does. I recommend going to the awesome restaurant just a few miles north or head into arcata.

The ahi special appetizer was one of the worst that I've had (I love ahi) with the fish feeling stiff. It was tasteless and dry. My husband's meal was also disappointing. Indoors was very loud and crowded, with tables much too close together for COVID safety. We sat outside, where there was a beautiful view of the sun setting over Moonstone beach, but it was cold. Overhead mounted heaters would have been great. Prices were high - higher than the quality of the food.

First we had Martinis that were served in chilled glasses. He ha venison cooked perfectly. Mine was linguine and clams. Dozens of tender little clams in their shells in a creamy garlicky sauce.. The creme brûlée dessert was laced with espresso. This was a perfect dinner. Oh, did I mention that every table has a view of the sun setting over the ocean?

The bar was having trouble as it took 25 minutes to get a drink. The food came all at once after specifically requesting one course at a time. Zero sorry when the bill came and no compensation of any kind. What a way to destroy a 71st birthday dinner.

The setting for this restaurant is just off the beach with a great view of the ocean. We made reservations through open table about a month in advance since were visiting from the east coast. Our table was on the side of the restaurant, so the view was not the best, and unfortunately the windows were dirty as well. This is a first world problem for sure, but a restaurant that relies, in part, on the view should take extra care to make sure interior glass is clean. Note, the vase on the table had not been cleaned for some time (sticky/dirty) and there were spider webs in the corner and some dirt on the window sill. Service was really good and the food itself tasted fine. Prices are at a premium price point, but that is fine as the setting is very nice. Note, their website indicates a business casual dress code…don’t believe it. Jeans are fine.

We were a party of 7 celebrating graduation and are all in agreement that this was the worst dining experience we have ever had. Both Mishael Tanski, the server, & Ari, the chef, were disrespectful and truly unprofessional. Not only were there countless mistakes made throughout the meal including soups and salads being brought incorrectly, not at all, or after entrees. Drinks brought after meals were finished or incorrectly, and overextended wait times with repeated requests. Mishael was condescending, smug, and rude; to the point where he grabbed plates off the table as guests were still eating- making comments such as “here it is now” & “now you have it” while rudely walking away from the table. All seven guests were surprised by the incompetence displayed by management at what is meant to be a fine dining establishment. We strongly encourage anyone trying to enjoy or celebrate their evening to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

We dined here for our 18th anniversary dinner, having booked a few weeks ago. Lovely location by the beach with beautiful scenery, as the sun was setting during our wait. We arrived 20 minutes early for our 7:00 reservation. As we were waiting, two servers were kind to tell us that we'd be seated soon. Within 5 minutes, we were greeted by a very nice young lady who immediately seated us. Because the temp was in the 50s, it was chilly in the restaurant and we had to wear our jackets to warm up. Somewhere along the way, the door was finally closed. The restaurant is small and quaint, and you can dress casually or dress up. My husband wore jeans and a nice polo shirt. Our food and drink order was taken by Naarah, who was nice and cordial. We were aware of the high prices, but the food did not disappoint. Everything from the appetizer (coconut prawns) to the entree (filet mignon/salad/clam chowder/potatoes) to the dessert (creme brulee), was perfect, and on time. The filet was cooked medium rare as we normally order and was absolute perfection for both of our meals. The ONLY downside was that the bar doesn't serve blended drinks, but my moscato was delicious! Even with 3 glasses of wine, and and an after-dinner expresso added, we paid $340 with the tip, but it was our time to celebrate as we normally do with a very pricey dinner each year. As we were leaving, we were congratulated on our event by the staff. The menu is available online, so view it before coming so you're not shocked by the prices. The scenery of the ocean also gives a great experience. We will be back again next year!! (I also provided this same review via Google)

I took my party of 7 celebrating my son's graduation and had the worst dining experience we have ever had. Mishael Tanski, our server was disrespectful and unprofessional. Many mistakes were made throughout our dinner and soups and salads served incorrectly and served after our entrees. The wait times were overextended and when requests were made our server Mishael, was condescending, smug, and rude. Our family of seven was shocked by the incompetence displayed by this supposedly "fine dining establishment". The only thing "fine" is the location. I do not recommend this restaurant. I could not wait to get the hell out of there.

A fine dining establishment for the locals and tourists to relax, enjoy excellent meals, and catch gorgeous sunset views! We had excellent service, enjoyed the live musician on a Wednesday night, and were very impressed with the dishes. Pricey, but if you like higher-end restaurants this is the spot!

Went here to celebrate my birthday, was absolutely worth it. I got the crab cake appetiser and the surf and turf, crab was fresh and the steak cooked exactly the way I like it. Scallops were soft and tender, blue crab was delicious, nothing to complain about in terms of food quality. The view was beautiful, overlooking moonstone beach as the sun set over the horizon. Service was great, our server was nice and did a great job attending to us. He accidentally got me clam chowder when I ordered the tomato soup as my side but promptly brought me the correct soup with no charge. This restaurant is expensive but it was money well spent!

Absolute excellence. Potentially the best salmon I’ve ever had. Not only was it insanely delicious with unique, complimenting flavors but it was presented with incredible intention and art. The old fashion was beautifully fragrant and strong. The clam chowder was also fantastic. Finishing with the Affogato for desert (per our waitresses recommendation) was an absolute chefs kiss to this fantastic experience. Wish I could give more stars. I will absolutely only come here when I’m in the area in the future. Well done!
