We stopped in here to have sandwiches made to take with us while we were passing through and the sandwiches were amazing! The assortment of breads, pastries and other goods were superb! The service was very friendly and attentive! I can't wait to go back and try some of the other pastries they have there.

Stopped by after visiting the train museum and was very impressed walking in and seeing the vast array of delicious looking baked goods, breads, and sandwiches made in house. It was pretty hot that day so I am glad we came in for some drinks. Also, couldn't resist getting an almond croissant and let me just tell you... WAY better... More

This place has the biggest best freshest sandwiches and soup. The bread is all baked fresh daily and the sandwiches are made when ordered

Saw that this place served breakfast and lunch, but it is really a bakery that makes sandwiches using the bread threy back. Old style German bakery that also sells bric a brac. It was good, but if you don't want a sandwich head further east on same road.

We stopped here for lunch. Well worth it!! Homemade fresh breads, fresh sliced meats, and amazing desserts. Prices are reasonable and the staff and locals were all very friendly. If you're in the area, definitely give it a try!

Found this place by accident and was pleasantly surprised. Stopped in for coffee and breakfast and noticed that they do lunch too...the lunch menu was amazing and the breakfast was so good that the lunch must be out of this world. Great patio seating for guests on nice days. Indoor seating too...well decorated with a pleasant family vibe. If you... More

you get in line and fill out a menu so that when you get to the front, you simply hand them the form and pay. the atmosphere is very country, just like where you are in this small community 100 miles or so north of Los Angeles. the food is excellent and the place is always hopping. we've eaten here... Kohnen's Country Bakery, located in historic downtown Tehachapi, California, is a delightful contemporary German bakery designed with Old World Charm. Honoring his German food traditions, baker Thomas Kohnen makes every batch from scratch - including some 20 varieties of artisan breads dense with whole grains, full flavors, and crisp crusts. Kohnen's offers fresh bread baked daily, including crusty rye, basil-barley garden, six-grain, sun dried tomato, delicate cinnamon raisin, and even pizza bread, not to mention pretzels, boiled-then-baked bagels, and Brotchen - traditional, crusty German breakfast rolls. We also offer refreshing German beer and freshly brewed iced tea. Desserts are gorgeous and irresistible, too. A few temptations are cinnamon crisps, apricot-walnut kolaches, and espresso chocolate chip cookies. The cafe also serves fresh-made soups and made-to-order sandwiches using Kohnen's breads for take-out, dining inside, or on the patio.
