Cold day, hot soup!

On a recent stop in Del Mar, we decided to give Fidel's a visit. It was a cold day and I had tried the Albondigas Soup on my last visit per the recommendation of our server. My husband and I opted to try it a again. The soup was spicy, full of meatballs and very flavorful. It definitely hit the... read more

My wife and I just had lunch there 2 hours ago, now both sick, severe indigestion. Crab enchilada and Chicken. No meat in either so not that. Salsa like ketchup. Rip off. Fast service but sub-standard food.

Had not been here for some years. Still the the quaint Mexican rabbit warren it always was. Here for lunch. Service very friendly and fast. This was a Saturday so no menu specifically for lunch. Meals ordered were Chimichanga, Crab Enchilada, Chorizo Con Huevos and Chile Colorado. All were excellent and served quickly. Word of warning - you'd better come... More

So this is on a block of non-chain old-style Mexican restaurants below I-5 in Solano Beach. The interiors are welcoming, the food is good, the bar was packed as was the parking lot. They seem to go full tilt 24/7. We had fish tacos (good), chicken soup (very good but salty), the skinny margaritas, and the regular happy hour margaritas.... More

We were a very large party, but they did a good job accommodating us. The chips with cheese and guacamole were delicious. I didn't think I'd have room for dinner but I managed, and the chile relleno was great. I also enjoyed my strawberry margaritas. I would definitely return. The wait staff could not have been nicer.

24 hours later and I'm still craving the chips and salsa + Queso Fundido. Top notch authentic mexican food with nice service.

Fidel's has been in Solana Beach more than 30 years and makes the best margaritas. However, the food and service has declined in recent years. Also there prices have gone up more than should.

Average food, service and value relative to other choices on same street and in town. For those who like chain restaurants - this is your place. For those that want authentic mex - better choices elsewhere.

1.0 star rating 12/29/15 This place is a cattle call for sure. Plan to park a block of more away, because it's full. Plan to push past a line to get to the host. Plan on spending time standing with your drink waiting for a table because the noisy bar is full. Plan on getting glared at by the waiter... More

Fidel's is a classic Mexican restaurant in the Eden Garden community of Solana Beach. I have eaten here for 40 plus years and the food is always excellent. Some of my favorites here include: mixed chicken burrito (the burrito sauce is perfect ask for an extra side of it), tostada supremas, sopes, and chille rellenos. The guacamole is delicious. If...
