Located across from the Del Mar Fairgrounds and Race Track, our third restaurant has been a San Diego North County favorite since it opened in 1981. This bustling restaurant encourages friendly and convivial dining, with the help of a comfortable oyster bar and cozy cocktail bar and lounge, and front-and-center retail market, widely known by those seeking to take home the finest in fresh fish. We also offer a private room suitable for a large party gathering.

I had been to this restaurant 30 years ago. I knew the owner and the food was fabulous. I am not even sure this is the same restaurant. It took forever for a waiter to finally show up at our table. He had a real...pompous attitude and acted like it was really an imposition that we were there. He was no help at all in selecting a bottle of wine and was no help with our questions regarding the food on the menu. We ordered the clam chowder, which was so pasty and full of flour it was inedible, we sent it back. The crab cakes had the texture and taste of ground up baby food, they did not taste like crab at all. My husbands dinner was the only thing that was eaten, it was just passable. This is really a disappointment, I was so looking forward to eating here again after all my good memories of it. The waiter did not want to talk to us about our dissatisfaction with our dinner, so he sent over the manager, she was rather rude and stuck up for the waiters attitude. She took the inedible things off our bill which was nice, but I left hungry. Will not recommend this place at all.More

Excellent food and service. The crab cakes were fantastic. My husband had the panko crusted calamari steak. It was so good, i made him share with me. We will definitely return if we are ever in this part of the country.

There's a big, laminated card on the table with instructions to pay with your phone, so I did so. I futzed with my phone and credit card, added the 20% tip that automatically came up even though our waitress wasn't great, and entered my email...address to receive my receipt. After we left the manager, Robin, ran out and accused me of not paying in front of my client and strangers outside. I said, "I paid with my phone!" She said, "There's no payment on the table!" Completely mortified I repeated, "I paid with my phone like the card said." We went back and forth a few more times and finally she said, "You paid with your phone? This is all new." No apology. I was so upset I started crying. I had never been accused of a crime before. I had already received my email receipt, surely she could have checked her Point of Sale system? It was the first time I had been to a restaurant since March 13...I believe I will eat at home for a while longer.More

I must start by giving credit to the wait staff, who were attentive and charming, eager to make us happy, and even miraculously found a set of lost car keys! The food is excellent, with a varied menu. We could easily have eaten more than...the three times that we did, but we wanted to try other nearby restaurants. Lots of seafood classics, with also their own unique dishes. Good soups (incl. both white and red clam chowder), nice salads, good mains. It is not cheap eats, but also not excessively expensive. I am eager to return.More

We no longer live in San Diego but we were visiting a friend and since this was always one of our favorite places to eat we decided to go back. We made reservations at 5:00 and found that there was adequate parking. We were quickly...greeted and shown to a table. The server came quickly and we ordered drinks. We like to linger for a while and talk and the server came by periodically and asked if we need anything..perfect. My wife had Oysters Rockefeller, I had Halibut and our friend had the fish tacos. All were perfectly prepared, tasted great and we were very happy. I hardily recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.More

Wife wanted seafood for our anniversary so made a reservation at the Fish Market. Drive down from Utah. It's that good!

Food and service were good, but pricey. Even their onsite fresh seafood market was expensive. We went there for lunch. Dinner would have been very expensive. It is not near the Ocean (about 1 mile), but is very near the race track.

I've been to The Fish Market many times with my 92-year old mom, mostly because it's local and the fish is always fresh. I'm writing this review not only because last night's dinner was delicious...but because our server, Marjan, made it absolutely outstanding. Warm, efficient...and with a sparkle in her eyes, she elevated the experience to one of excellence. Yes, the Caesar salad was perfectly balanced with notes of lemon rounding out the garlic on fresh Romaine. Yes, the swordfish (which I rarely order) was perfectly cooked and just the right size serving. Yes, my mom loved her garlic prawns over linguine. And yes, even the martini was generous. Honestly, though, it was Marjan who made the night shine. I only hope she is there the next time...More

I checked around the Del Mar area for a seafood restaurant with great reviews and made a lunch reservation at the Fish Market. We were not disappointed. Huge fresh salads, good clam chowder and reasonably priced entrees. The ladies split a crab salad and a...salmon entree and could not finush them. I had the wahoo. It was great. The service was excellent. If you are in the area, give it a try.More

The Fish Market is what it says - both a fish market and a very good restaurant. I had the NY chowder along with the halibut. Both were delicious. I would say pricing is in the middle range for the Del Mar/Solana Beach area.
