The Trident was the epicenter of hippy/celebrity chic in the 1960's. Boozie smoothies were the cocktail of choice back then, and maybe still are. The Trident has tried to pass itself off as a historic time capsule, but unfortunately, it's just a worn down place...with mediocre food and beautiful views. Tourists flock to it. If you like nice views, sit outside with a cocktail, but for food, go somewhere else. Poggio has good food, and is a short walk. The Seafood Peddler is a longer walk, but it's a good fish restaurant, even though the interior decor is very dated. With the big food scene in San Francisco, there's no excuse for the low standards at The Trident.More

Had not been to the Trident in many years. Was in the area for a wedding. My wife had never been to the restaurant. Fish tacos were excellent, service was very good, view of the CITY was spectacular.

I would rate this in my top 5 memorable lunches of all time. We had a fabulous time celebrating our anniversary and we didn’t even mention that bit until the end. 🥰. As walk ins there was no space outside but the charming hostess showed...us to a perfect window table . Service was prompt, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Crab cakes to start - fabulous served with a crunchy apple salad and the Sausalito Louis had plenty of prawns and avocado, what’s not to love. The crème brûlée was a silky delight. We’ve been here a few times over the years and always enjoyed it - it’s a fantastic location but for us it has that intangible special something that leaves a warm glow in your heart. If you are in the area it’s worth taking time to stop off at Sausalito and take in the views from The Trident. 😍More

The seating outside gives you a magnificent view of the bay and San Fran. Our server was, very friendly and informative. The food was a scam..They list Louie salads..Dungeness crab, shrimp and a combo. We got the combo and the crab was, very salty, mushy and tasted...liked it was canned..how awful for a area known for Dungeness crab salads. The shrimp were 1 scrimp cut lengthwise into 2 pieces..what a disappointmentMore

Before you are seduced by the great view and menu, take a minute to understand the Trident's unusual history. I commented on the unusual decor which is a blend of sleek minimalist and 1970's trippy hippy opulence. A waiter jumped on my comment and handed...me the back of the menu to read about the Trident's glory days in the 70's as preferred party palace for the Rolling Store, Janice Joplin, Bob Dylan and leading lights of San Francisco music scene. Oh, if those walls could talk. Food and view were lovely and memorable - what's not to love about the Sausalito waterfront?More

This was the only cloudy day of our 10 day trip and stopping here was still worth the beautiful water views which are available from almost any seat in the restaurant. We got lucky and didn't need reservations but arrived just before the lunch crowd...and it was very busy as we left. Food and service were average (hence the 3/5 stars) but Sausalito is a really cute town and was a good lunch stop on our way from San Francisco airport to Sonoma.More

Went here for an anniversary lunch for the first time ever and had a terrific experience. We got seated on the outdoor patio right on the water, which was an unbeatable view on a beautiful day. My wife’s Manhattan was terrifically balanced and approachable even...for someone who only occasionally drinks Bourbon. The clam chowder was loaded with seafood flavor and rich without being thick and heavy. My fish tacos were cooked perfectly and my wife’s seafood linguine was chock full of seafood and enough for two meals. The staff surprised us with a creme brûlée with fresh berries for dessert, which was surprisingly light but perfect to round out the meal. Great food, attentive service, and beautiful sights.More

Food was not that great, service was very friendly but not attentive, and invisible at time 1. Cindy the greeter was wonderful! Coming in and leaving, just as perfectly friendly as you could want! The best! The waiter was very personable and friendly. That was...nice too! 2. My girlfriend ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktail but only ate 2 of the 5. That begs a question that should have been asked by the server. Is there a problem with the selection? What can we do to fix it? A solution was possible, the cocktail sauce with more kick, or bring some horseradish, and it would have been fixed. But she was never asked. 3. The fish and chips I ordered were just ok. The chips were GREAT, very hot and tasty! The slaw was not good really at all. The fish… meh… I was disappointed. That being said, I was ok with my meal. Likely wouldn’t do it again or maybe I would to see if ti was a fluke, but it was ok. 4. My girlfriend ordered a fillet and was very clear in saying between medium and medium well. She said medium with a push; she doesn’t mind a little pink. When the fillet came, it was mid rare… and you know what? It happens… it would not have been much of a problem but the server never once asked if it was correct and if not, how it could be remedied. These problems could have been remedied, but the server never asked. We sat for 15-20 minutes after we were done and had to ask a passing staff member to locate our server to let them know we were ready for the check. Even after we asked, when he came out the door to the outside he went to another table first. Not attentive!More

My host accurately described Trident as, “a tourist trap with good food.” It was started by members of the Kingston Trio, a big folk revival band in the 1950’s. We went for an early lunch. The restaurant is a big place sitting right on the...Bay with huge glass windows. There is plentiful outdoor seating and the interior seating is well spaced. Service was prompt and friendly. As it is in waterfront Sausalito, the valet parking is a big plus. Just try and find a parking place on the street! We started with an appetizer of “nachos” made with thinly sliced potatoes rather than corn chips. We forgot to ask them to hold the bacon as we were all vegetarians so there was a bit of surgery to do. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich with roasted peppers and avocado that was tasty but constructed to maximize falling apart with the first bite. A less tall bun, like a square ciabatta would have better mechanical properties. It could be had either with French fries or a salad. The French fries were of the small, crisp variety (a la Mc Donald’s) and we’ll done in the style. The salad was field greens adorned only with dressing. I didn’t try dessert as I had a plane to catch. It’s a great place to linger over food and drinks, catching up with old friends.More

We enjoyed this place so much that I think we ended up there three times during our stay in Sausalito. We popped in to grab a quick drink and later decided that we wanted to come back for dinner and boy were we happy that...we did! The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. They sat us at the Janice Joplin table which was the best view in the house and were incredibly attentive. The food was amazing, the Paloma’s were amazing and we will be sure to visit again every time we visit Sausalito in the future. Highly recommended!More

First time here on a recent visit to Sausalito. We usually eat a Scoma's but they were closed on this week day. Call ahead for reservation if you want a table next to window. I had the mixed seafood grill on a skewer. The dish...as perfectly cooked and the rice and veggies which came with it were also well done. A little pricy at $ 36 but delicious.
