They do many excellent things here at El Coqui. But, the Cubano Sandwich. It is an epic sandwich (with Sweet Plaintains on the side). I know... Seven simple ingredients but sublime when executed perfectly. Don't miss this one. I have been harping about this for years...drooling while I write this.

The best empanadas north of Colombia has to be here! Everything about the empanadas here are as good and better than when growing up in Central America. I must visit

We love the authentic fare of this nature nice spacious downtown restaurant. The short menu makes it easy to choose, and everything is delicious. Veggie options too! Friendly service, good beer. Highly recommended.

El Coqui is lively, colorful, and fun. It is small and friendly, and serves very good Puerto Rican home-style dishes. The fried chicken thighs, served with rice and black beans and pepper sauce, and fried plantains (green or sweet).

Great ambiance, delicious food and drinks, reasonably priced and SUCH a nice change in options! I loved the Canoas con Carne Molida Their classic Pollo el Horno is excellent! Love both the fried green plantains and the ripe, but the ripe are a real treat!

Being that I grew up on certain Puerto Rican dishes.... I was in for it when my mom moved out of state... I heard of this place when they first opened and decided to wait it out before I tried them... After finding a seasoned establishment in San Rafael.....and reliving the home cooked meals my mom made... I decided after... More

In terms of authentic Puerto Rican food, this place is among the top and best in the entire Bay Area. I grew up in Puerto Rico for 17 years of my life eating nothing but the most cultural dishes our culture has to offer, made by my own parents and grandparents. The ownership isn't lying - these dishes truly are... More

I went with my best friend by accident but found the best Puerto Rican food we've ever had in the country. My friend is Puerto Rico and classifies this most authentic and he has ever had. A must place to go. Enjoy!

We love this restaurant. The Canoas are to die for. Ask for the special beans, as they are not always offered, but are always available for a bit more. They are truly yummy, I generally order the Vegetariana, my husband generally gets it with Carne Molida and upgrades to the slow roasted pulled pork. I like the pulled pork option... More
